Like everything there have been surveys. At the top of the list is providing their child with education based on religious principals. This shouldn't be surprising since 79% of private schools have a religious affiliation. Parents also like the fact that the private schools select their students making the environment safer. They believe the controlled environmental of a private school is a better learning environment.

They tried to pass school vouchers here in PA. At first, they targeted the lower 144 school districts & then opened it to all based on income.

A study found that 8% of the money would go to kids in those poorer 144 districts. 65% would go to parents whose kids were already in private school.

The money from these vouchers come out of the budgets of the schools where these kids live. AS you pat yourself on the back for saving a couple of kids, you abandon the rest in a poor district with now less money.

The amount of these vouchers do not cover 100% of the tuition. How many poor kid's parents can afford the balance?

No moron....vouchers are freedom for the parents and their children. There are families who line up in the thousands for the chance to get their kids out of the hell hole schools morons like you have condemned them to........for a few dozen spots in a charter school....

Vouchers would allow those parents the chance to actually educate their children....vouchers would increase the number of schools that actually work, it would create schools in the same school district as the hell hole school, and parents wouldn't be trapped simply because they couldn't afford to move the entire family out of the bad school district....

Every kid, regardless of income should get the same voucher....to be used wherever the kid can get into a good school...just like college. They are the G.I. We tried that in Florida. The charter schools were run by crooks and scam artists looking to make a buck off the taxpayer. Halfway through the school year, the tax dollars were gone and the schools were forced to close, putting the students back into the same public schools they came from, but this time with zero funding!

Question, how many rich people do you know that send their kids to public schools? Stop making a crime out of wealthy mf's who do this all the time and focus on the issues at hand. We now have a mop who's out of touch with public education who bought her way to this position. End of effin story. Trapping them in schools that do not educate their children is how you see them taking care of the children? Really? Instead of giving those parents vouchers, where they can actually get an education for their children...instead of watching them die in gangs, drugs and poverty......you are one dumb individual....

So, how many parents in these poor school districts have the money to add to your voucher to get them in a private school? Do you think they cover 100%.

Fix the schools & help all the kids. Don't take a few tokens & declare how fricken great you are.

What you don't understand is that when you give the parents control over the money, new schools will open....in order to get those vouchers...it will not be a zero sum game......

New schools will open up, schools that specialize in difficult kids will open up.....and then public schools will get better because they will have to in order to compete........

You cannot fix inner city schools under the current system...it is not possible...the democrat controlled teachers unions do not want the problem fixed...if they did, it would have been fixed. The only way to fix the system is to give the parents the power to choose where they send their kids.....that creates the change that fixes the education system...

Just like the college system.......vouchers create the college system for k-12...and our colleges are the best in the world...because they have to actually compete to get the money from the students.......so they hire the best teachers, they offer the best education.....we need that at the K-12 level...not these arbitrary borders that force people into one school if they can't move .....

If you knew anything about how schools are financed, please explain where the "new" schools are going to come up with the initial investment to build facilities and hire teachers with no income source?

What happens when you arm every student with a voucher competing for a small number of slots at the best schools?

New schools open to take those vouchers. And they have to actually educate children...or the parents will take their vouchers and go to another school that will actually teach their children...they will no longer be trapped by an arbitrary school district border.

My school has 700 students, That is out of 700 students in the county. There are no private schools. There never will be any private schools. Charter schools are outlawed in this state, but may be allowed soon. There will be no charter schools in my county.
