THIS is why I'm such a passionate defender of freedom of expression. RIGHT NOW. TODAY.

Whaddya you care? You don't vote! No involvement, then no commitment. That's your motto.
Oh good, now you're reduced to lies.

Of course I vote. Please quote me saying I don't.

I'll wait here.

I voted for Trump in 2016.

Who did you vote for?
Hillary. Lousy candidate but it was a good choice.

Coming clean, I see.
Good!
Never stopped. And thanks again for self-identifying for me.

It couldn't be much more clear.

All along, I've advocated for freedom of expression as a way to shine a light on this country's problems. The left wingers here (the Regressive Left) attacked when I strongly advocated for freedom of expression on college campuses for even the worst of our society. All along, I've defended the right of paranoid, ignorant racists to say what they're thinking so that I could know, and so that I could know who agrees with them. For that, some of the Regressive Lefties (with their weaponized PC/Identity Politics) called me a racist and a closeted right winger. That's okay.

THIS is what freedom of expression is FOR. To shine the light on the cockroaches. It's the most LIBERAL of American values.

So, thank you, President Trump. Your behaviors and inactions have emboldened so many of your followers to expose themselves for what they are. They have shown this country that real, old fashioned, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, butt-cracking racism still exists, and that we have to address it. Once and for all, hopefully.

In fact, the one thing that worries me the most at this time is that people on the Left will blow this opportunity. We're seeing it with the violence, which only gives the Trumpsters an excuse to change the subject. The Left has to get a grip so that this golden opportunity isn't wasted. This has be done carefully and thoughtfully.

Freedom of expression has been a huge help, but we (as a country) can't fuck this up.

All my life I have been a defender of freedom of speech and expression.

At the same time I have always condemned violence.

Freedom of speech is for everyone. Not just those who say what you want to hear.

I don't believe that slander, defamation or lies fall under freedom of speech.

If someone wants to speak at a public university, they go through the proper paperwork and follow all the rules, they have all the right in the world to do so. If the students on that campus don't want to hear that person speak, don't go to the event. Voice your opinion about the person who is speaking but taking steps to stop them from speaking is always wrong. As I've always said, the best thing to do is for no one to show up. Let the speaker spend all that money to do the even for nothing. That speaks much better and is much more effective than trying to stop freedom of speech.

As for the protests. I completely agree with the protesters. I support them and if the virus wasn't happening, I would be in the streets with them.

I don't agree with violence by anyone. I don't care who they are. Violence is never the solution to anything. All you're going to get is anger and more violence. With protesting, all you're going to do is drive the public away from you and what you're trying to accomplish.

What I also don't agree with is putting the violence on people who aren't involved with the violence.

It couldn't be much more clear.

Just when I think that this guy can't get any more wrong -
Poof!
Proves me to be incorrect.
Since we have no idea of what you mean you could explain.
The general reaction so far is MAC NO LIKE TRUMPSTERS MAC DUMB

But it's early.

Seriously here Mac, did you expect anything else?

How will this be addressed?
The only way it will work is if and when both ends of the issue start being honest and hold their own accountable. That will start the momentum we need.

Those who refuse to see that their own house has to be cleaned simply won't be part of the conversation that leads to improvements. Fine with me.

Most likely it will get worse before then.

The mistake you're making is thinking the problem will be solved by those causing it. You are making a mistake if you think the extremists on both ends are going to see their own problems. Much less correct them.

It's a cop out and not taking responsibility for the problem to just say there's a problem but those causing the problem have to see it and correct it. Everyone else has to wait for them.

You've been doing that for how long now?

How is that working out?

You are part of the problem because you enable the problem to exist and grow.

It's going to take the rest of us to do it. All the sane people need to stop allowing the crazy people in their party to keep running things. Sure the crazy people should have a voice but they aren't the only voice and they are a minority.

So until the sane people stand up to say no to the crazy people, the crazy people will not stop. Why should they?

This incident will be placated by gestures and novice legislation and executive orders that will be largely ignored in the future and the system will go back to its prior position..
Most likely true. I just hope you're wrong. This just festers over time and gets worse otherwise.

I am on your side

and most of my friends are on your side

we are NOT leftwing nor are we RIGHTWING

moderates and independents

I laugh

" I laugh "

I know you do.

and that is why it is impossible to have a serious conversation with you and your ilk

I tell you the truth "I am NOT left wing"

and you mock me and call me a liar!

I tell you the truth ....the EVIDENCE/PROOF that I am NOT "leftwing"

- I believe in your right to own guns
- I support the right of all people to embrace their own religion
- I oppose EXTREME left wing and EXTREME right wing ideologies
- I ABHOR china and russia and N korea and ALL communist/fascist dictatorships
- I do NOT want to be like Venezuela or Cuba
- I think LIGHT-socialist democracies (Norway, Denmark etc) ((which are considered the HAPPIEST countries in the world)) are on the right path to future success and happiness
- I think AFFORDABLE education for all citizens is a GREAT IDEA as it will help train and educate future generations to be competitive in a global marker
- I WANT the US military to be the BEST in the world
- I think that in order for the US military to continue to be the best in the world we need AFFORDABLE education for all

and your response is always to mock me and call me a liar!

always!

your pathetic, deranged brain is SO FKN STUPID that it can't fathom the possibility that people can be OPPOSED TO RIGHT WING LUNATICS
and still NOT BE left wing.

You gave that person exactly what they wanted.

The best thing you can do is scroll right by their posts. You aren't going to change them and you're only going to get upset.

Which is exactly what that person wanted.

I don't know about you but the last thing I'm going to do is give people like that what they so desperately want.

You have no obligation to prove to anyone who and what you are. You know it, those you love know it and those who are your friends know it.

Everyone else really doesn't matter.

Especially some jerk on a message board.

What protesters are doing is not "freedom of expression" but "freedom of imposing their expressions".

Blocking streets and bridges, destroying cars and public and private property, looting and even killing... they want to impose their expression... so, f*ck with them... they are on "ignore" in my computer...

Do you equate protesting to illegal activity?
You want to protest against police abuse of force. OK.

What is your hurry to do it without the correspondent city permit?

Why you prefer to do it illegally?

Talk to me, law breaker.

If you have to ask (and I doubt that you do), you're not going to understand.

That's okay. Just keep going.

That's not trolling at all. A guessing game with no answer. Dreck.

Mac has reached a new level of A hole. He is praising himself for being for free speech while at the same time calling all Trump supporters and most republicans racist. The only thing worse than a scum bag is one that loves themselves that much.

A bunch of ANTIFA thugs attack a guy...start beating the shit out of him and he pulls a gun and shoots a couple of them........the cops arrest the gun owner because he didn't take his beating and ask for seconds.
You forgot to mention that the inbred attacked a girl. He body slammed her and thats why he got attacked.

I still am perplexed that you pin this chaos and the reaction to it on Trump. You portray yourself as an intellectual but show CLEAR SIGNS of Trump derangement syndrome with this thread. I also find it odd that you gave my initial response a thumbs up but never bothered to reply as to why.
a. I don't portray myself as an intellectual. I just belch out what I'm thinking. I'd bet that if I laced my comments with third grade name calling, vicious personal insults and empty partisan platitudes, no one would say that. But I don't. I think it makes people look ignorant, weak, lazy and afraid.

b. I don't "pin this chaos and the reaction to it on Trump". You guys really don't get this, no matter how many times I say it: This is not about Trump. He is a symptom. A vessel. A totem. Racists and bigots and enablers of racism have become emboldened by him because of his actions and inactions, but this is on THEM. He has enabled THEM, by all means, but THEY are the issue. Trump isn't the issue. TRUMPISM is the issue.

c. Citing TDS = Citing ODS. It means nothing. It's an excuse to be intellectually lazy and avoid addressing reasonable issues.

d. I gave you a thumbs up because I agree it has little to do with Trump. Like most of our problems, this is cultural, and therefore will be very difficult to eradicate.

Oh hell no. I say it all the time: I just toss the softball up in the air and watch the nutters whack it over the fence for me.

That includes any number of nasty personal insults and lies about me, while I never have to name names or make it personal.

This place isn't for reasoned debate for me (I wish it were), it's for observing behaviors and tactics.

You're missing my point.

I've said a zillion times that the crazies on both ends of this issue are NOT going to be the same people who fix it. I used to think that anyone can be a part of improving things, but I've changed my mind on that. The only way this issue gets fixed is for the crazies to be marginalized out of the conversation and for the rest of us to fix it. And that process will have to include an honest look in the mirror by both ends, and it will have to include both ends of this holding their own side accountable for their actions. We're nowhere near that point yet.
