Trump Is Hiding His Taxes

Congress is trying to get Trump's taxes. Every President since Nixon has released theirs and Trump "claims" he'd like to release them.

He is however fighting tooth and nail to keep them secret. His claim here is that he's under audit and for some reason that precludes him from releasing them. It doesn't.

The IRS does not lock them down for that reason, and it's CONGRESS requesting them in accordance with the law. In fact a refusal would put the the head of the IRS or Treasury Secretary in contempt of Congress.

And for what it's worth, Trump's former attorney Cohen testified under oath that Trump WASN'T under audit

What do you suppose he's hiding? Tax evasion? Money Laundering?

He's afraid of something obviously
What crime has he committed?

The multitude he is trying to hide??? :D Shedding LIGHT on it, is good. Hidden in the DARK is bad. Surely you know this....?

And there does not have to be a crime for the committee chair to request his tax returns from the IRS.

Would you honestly support an Obama doing this or a Hillary if she were president?

You guys have just lost your minds and any drop of moral standards you ever claimed to have.... it is mind blowing!

I truly do not understand it, at all....

Secretary shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified in such request, except that any return or return information which can be associated with, or otherwise identify, directly or indirectly, a particular taxpayer shall be furnished to such committee only when sitting in closed executive session unless such taxpayer otherwise consents in writing to such disclosure."

Why are law and order conservatives afraid of what Trump's tax returns will reveal?

Doesn't seem a clear mandate for Congress to demand this specific information. To what end? I come back to "Who gives a shit", other than political hacks who cannot stand the fact that their cankled c**t failed to win. I'd like to see Congress get on with more important business, it's not like there isn't a lack of things that need their attention. But they continue to insist on conducting their stupid witch hunt.

He brags about not paying federal income taxes.

He is currently subject to 17 different investigations.

Congress has every right to see his tax returns as part of their oversight obligations.

Trump Engaged in Suspect Tax Schemes as He Reaped Riches From His Father

"President Trump participated in dubious tax schemes during the 1990s, including instances of outright fraud, that greatly increased the fortune he received from his parents, an investigation by The New York Times has found."

As long as they don't leak the taxes to the public and violate right to privacy laws. If any member of Congress leaks confidential information they should be investigated for civil rights violations as deemed by the Fourth Amendment.

And if any honest, bipartisan investigation were actually pursued, how many would include the beast on the right? How many different charges could be brought against the Hildebeest?

None as the left doesn't like to investigate the Democratic Party members, it is to humiliating.

First off we have privacy laws and it is none of Congress' business what our financials look like. That alone should cause them to request taxes because as it sits now it is for political gain. I would not mind if it was Obama or Clinton, you should not be able to look at one's financials to conduct a witch hunt.

If the taxes were required to be disclosed to run for office, I would have no problem with that. The fact a person exercised their personal right not turn over his taxes and is now being targeted for that is absolutely wrong. It seems the Democrats don't give a damn about morals and when the situation turns around, the Republicans will attack the Democrats.

Some of the loop holes and probably questionable tactics that Trump is using to escape paying taxes could be pretty embarrassing for a candidate whose base is predominately blue collar working class white men who do pay taxes and lots of them.

Congress does not have to believe a crime has been committed to subpoena the president's tax forms. Federal laws gives the congress the responsibility for oversight and auditing the executive branch which includes the IRS. Ultimately, the IRS will have to turnover his tax forms although Trump will certainly be able to delay it.

I question what would do the most damaging to Trump, having him fighting to keep his tax forms hidden or revealing them during the campaign.

It's an IRS policy to do such for every President for every year they are in office, but it is NOT a law.... the head of IRS could tell his people NOT to follow the policy.

This is also why Chairman Neal is requesting the tax returns, if the IRS is not following their policy, then the congress may choose to codify it under a LAW instead of a policy that the president could order his IRS director, not to do....
So....it's not Trump they are after, it's the IRS?
That is going to be a tough sell when it ends up in the courts. just sayin'
the law is clear, I doubt it will make it to court, without being thrown out....

the law is the law, follow it or change it, through legislative means.... the courts are not for anything else, but determining if a law is broken, or a law or action, is unconstitutional.

I do not believe Trump's stacking of the courts, will be able to help him on this....

Why are you supporting him hiding them from Congress or anyone? What do you think he is hiding?

The court has been clear in similar cases, congress can not request things just for the sake of exposure. When congress is abusing the law, the courts are the proper venue.

.
excuse me, but this law has never been challenged by anyone, in a Court.... the IRS has always complied when requested by the designated committee chairs.

what was the purpose for Nixon, or Ford's, etc which were gotten thru 6103f ?

...tax information of presidents and vice presidents enhances the ability of Congress to oversee the executive branch, which is critical to our checks and balances. Congress may, for example, use tax information to evaluate the fairness of IRS audits, investigate potential financial conflicts, or develop new legislation.
Would like to see where you got the part in italics. Is that a quote, or your own summary?

Can someone explain the harm in them being released?
Well, trump did business all over the world, likely there are things in his taxes he doesnt want his clients or competitors to see.

Perhaps he did buisiness with someone that might affect his relations with another person.

There could be many reasons he wants them hidden, and it's possible, for all of the wrong reasons, but also for legitimate reasons.

That is certainly a possibility but it seems very unlikely. The more likely scenario is data in his tax returns may indicate either wrong doing or misrepresentations in contracts or other business matters which he hopes to hide.

This is one of the the reasons multi-billionaire businessmen do not run for president. Eventually everything leaks out about the president. If Trump did not lie or misrepresent himself in his business dealings or his taxes, he should have nothing to fear.

Hence my reasoning for using the term "similar cases", where congress was ruled against for trying to get information just for the sake of exposing it. The courts will not allow this fishing expedition, the true intent has been apparent for two years, since the commies were trying to get Kevin Brady to request his taxes, when he chaired Ways and Means.

No president or presidential candidate are constitutionally required to publish their personal taxes. The law requires financial disclosure forms from all elected officials, congress is free to review them.

The democrats are not asking Trump for his tax return but rather the IRS. They are citing a 1920s law that authorizes the Ways and Means Committee to get from the Treasury Department the tax return information of any taxpayer. According to law, congress has the right of oversight on the executive branch and specifically they can audit any part of the executive branch including the IRS.

I posted this in another thread and it seems to appropriate here:

It's really simple, the commies revealed their hand more than two years ago when they tried to get Kevin Brady, then Ways and Means chairman, to get Trumps taxes. Brady said at the time and is still saying there is no legitimate reason to make the request. He still sits on Ways and Means and would likely be the first witness in a court case.

The commies can't legally go on fishing expeditions, I doubt the courts will side with the sham purpose stated in the request letter. How can you examine how presidents returns are being handled if they only examine one presidents returns. They are also requesting years that don't fall within his presidency and fall outside the scope of their letter.
