Trump threatens 'Saturday Night Live' with federal investigation

You’d figure more of his supporters would call BS on this nonsense... The only one so far has been MacMuffin

You first. Condemn the left for trying to silence conservative and libertarian viewpoints on social media and fox news.
This is as ignorant as it is wrong.

No one on ‘the left’ has advocated that the authority of the state be used to intimidate and silence conservative and libertarian viewpoints.

Then again it wouldn't have happened if Hussein was president.

OH NO someone made effigies meanwhile in the middle east the left's favorite hotspot for new immigrants to white lands are crucifying living children.

Stay on topic.

Talk about sweeping generalizations. If I searched how many times you've typed the word "cult" since trump's election, how many hits do you think I'd get?
Correct. Every single one of the libtards use the word cult! That tells you who the members of a cult are and it isn’t conservatives.

Correct. It isn't "conservatives". It's cult followers.

Cult of Personality clearly isn't about political ideologies. It's about personality.
…not to sure about that.

It’s getting to the point where the ideology and the cult have become one in the same.

Indeed, conservatism has been deteriorating into a cult for quite some time, in search of a cult leader – clearly they’ve found that leader in Trump.

OK I'll prove it. Name some conservatives who are not Rump-cultists. There are plenty. Your George Wills, your Jeb Bushes, your Ann Coulters, David Frum, Bob Corker, Susan Collins, Mitt Romney, etc etc etc.

Now name some cultists who aren't fixated on personality.

What I notice is that when said cultists go babbling away about "Democrats" this and "left" that, as soon as I point out it's not about ideology but about character, suddenly the room gets reeeeeal quiet and they run away.
There might be some ‘true’ conservatives left, but they’ve become pariahs and heretics – their version of conservativism outdated and obsolete in the age of rightwing fake news, Fox, ‘alterative facts,’ and Trump.

The conservativism of Goldwater and Buckley was misappropriated decades ago by the social right, religious extremists, and authoritarian ideologues – replaced with reactionary fear and bigotry, jingoistic nationalism, and the angry arrogance of white grievance politics intent on diving the American people.

The likes of Trump becoming the leader of the abomination that is now conservatism was inevitable.

Subjective views of conservatism (or any other ideology) aside, what I'm getting at here is that the Rump-cultists never give "conservatism" as a basis for their Rump worship ---- it's always about emotional hooks. He "trolls". He "upsets". He picks fights. He "drives libtards insane". Ideologically they have no opinion until Dear Leader dictates what they should say.

How much bandwidth have they already splooged on how he "really wasn't mocking a reporter" and "wasn't referring to neo-Nazis as 'very fine people'" and "isn't responsible for the government shutdown". How many times have they already twisted themselves into pretzels finding excuses for Stormy Daniels, Vlad Putin, shoving a prime minister, accusing O'bama of "tapppppppppppppping his wires", "arming teachers", why Mexico is paying for the wall disguised as US taxpayers, and as here, threatening Free Speech.

That all belies a strong emotional investment way more than an ideology. Rump of course has no ideology anyway.

You owe Pogo's Law a nickel. Pay up.

The DNC has excluded Fox News from their debates! Big candy asses!

And ewe owe Pogo's Law TWO nickels. There is nothing in this thread about "DNC" or "Fox Noise" or "debates". I should make that FIVE nickels.

Is it equally as pathetic when the left tries (and succeeds) in shutting down websites they don't like?

No

I see. Suppression of dissent is only ok when your side does it.
No, you don’t ‘see.’

But at least you’re consistent at being ignorant and wrong.

Only government has the authority to silence dissent through punitive measures – with either criminal prosecution or civil actions; sometimes both.

Trump is threatening to do just that, in violation of the First Amendment.

Rump has been diaper-chafing about SNL ever since just after he himself hosted it.

Clearly he's looking for a way to squelch all forms of heat he's just too fucking immature to handle while he's standing in the friggin' kitchen.

Obviously the wimp needs to learn how to GROW A PAIR. :gay:

Also doesn't seem to have noticed that last night's SNL was a rerun.

Point of accuracy -- the article from the Daily Mail makes an inaccurate conflation between the Fairness Doctrine and the Equal Time rule... the FD, championed by Republicans panicking about FDR's "Fireside Chats", directed that pointed political speech especially directed at a person, required that person to be awarded a space to respond if they so requested. Joe McCarthy famously used it to respond to Edward R. Murrow's scathing analysis, and CBS gave McCarthy the entire program to respond. The Equal Time Rule says that if a broadcast outlet disseminates a(n umpaid) political endorsement for one side, it has to make available equal time for the other side.

NEITHER of those of course apply to comedy, a human experience Rump seems completely unable to comprehend, which is a hallmark of his Narcissistic Personality Disorder. He has no sense of humor at all. Doesn't understand any kind of interaction unless it's some kind of conflict.

That's what it comes down to --- Rump is the original Snowflake. :gay: Lord God King Supreme Snowflake, snowflakier than which simply does not exist.

With all the lies and libel and columny they post, they need to be held responsible. It's not a free press, it's a corporate/globalist/DNC monopolized press.
News outlets never could get away with printing outright falsehoods before the mid-90s. Something changed that needs to be changed back.

Mysteriously well funded political advocacy groups petition corporations to pull ads and pressure google and other tech companies to censor the internet. You gladly hand over your freedom to unelected CEOs who already have most of congress in their back pockets. But it's ok because they're censoring the "bad" stuff.

"Columny" huh? I'll take one from columny A and one from columny B.

This is about comedy, not "the press". But in the greater scope it's about Free Speech. SNL posts no "lies" , no "libel" and ---- I'm pretty sure ---- no "columny".

Actually if you want "columny" you'll have to consult Rump's favorite Holey Babbel chapter, called "Two Corinthians Walk Into a Bar".

Sen. Manchin Bemoans Demise of Fairness Doctrine
Lays Hill toxicity at feet of former FCC
John Eggerton
May 18, 2018

Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin this week blamed the FCC, or at least a former Republican commission, for much of the current partisan incivility.

Debate over the so-called Fairness Doctrine was renewed at a Senate Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee hearing Thursday (May 17) when Manchin (W.Va.) quizzed FCC chairman Ajit Pai on the issue.

Democrats have occasionally signaled a desire to restore the doctrine as a weapon against conservative talk radio, but Manchin signaled he did not think there was the political will to bring it back.

Hecalso said we should investigate Hillary.

He talks A LOT. But this, is hardly a "threat"

"Hillary" is a person. Persons are capable of crimes, which is what would in that case be "investigated".

There's nothing to "investigate" about a TV show that's free viewing for the entire public. It's right there.

Perhaps more to the point you could essplain to us what these "consequences" are. What this "retribution" is about.

aaaaaaaaaaaand GO.

I also like how he claims he has a 52% approval rating; when in fact, no poll, not even right-leaning Rasmussen, has him at 52%. He’s completely delirious. :cuckoo:
Trump is completely dishonest.
He even lies about something as stupid as his job approval rating.

Or Trump cultists give their new version of ‘conservativism’ as the basis for their blind support of Trump.

Remember that Trump was to be the ‘anti-establishment’ candidate – a kind of rightwing Übermensch who would raze the rotting, corrupt Republican/conservative edifice of politics-as-usual, ushering in a New Age of white prosperity and hegemony, nationalistic isolationism, and nativist protectionism.

Trump is the perfect figurehead for this new conservative paradigm: authoritarianism seeking to compel conformity and punish dissent, the despotic ‘strong man’ motif enamored of the likes of Putin and Kim, and the reactionaryism longing for an idealized American past that never actually existed to begin with.

Whatever conservativism was – or was supposed to be – is long gone, replaced with the Trumpian dogma of fear, ignorance, bigotry, racism, and hate.

No, Trump as no ideology – but he doesn’t need one; as a shallow opportunist and con man he needs only play the part of a ‘political reformer’; he certainly conned the media and enough voters in enough of the states that that was the case.
