Well, with a 100$ tariff on the price of a China/Mexican car, buyers will likely not purchase them. Think about it, an American car might cost say $50,000. A China/Mexican car, of equal quality, would have to be sold for $100,000. Who will buy them? The thing is, with Trump's polices they WON'T try that.

The only other way to keep foreign nations out of our hemisphere and markets is to go to war. Trump has a better idea.

This only seems like a good idea because Trump isn't smart enough to deal with the USD value problem. And his supporters don't want to talk about it.

Why are foreign cars cheaper? Because their currency is worth more. A very good wage in China or Mexico is $5hr. Here it's a dirt poor poverty wage.
People can live very good on $1500 a month in Mexico. Here, they can't. That means their currency is worth more and goes farther.

So the solution isn't increasing taxes (because it's the American consumer who actually pays the tax). The solution is to stop borrowing and printing so much money. Pay down the national debt (as Trump has promised to do). That would stop inflation and actually increase the value of the USD.

Then our own cars wouldn't cost so much.
