What do conservatives support?

Not open for further replies.
Conservatives support Traditions, Values and the Rule of Law. The concepts of Law and Order along with Personal Responsibility are essential to Conservative ideology. A place for everyone, and everyone in their place.

I would add, the concept of personal property rights, without which you don't really have freedom. As it is we barely have that now. That concept runs counter to the Progressives faulty ideology of creating a better world.

I've argued many times that conservatives are defined on what they oppose (gay marriage, taxes, change, the ERA, sex ed in school, abortion, free contraceptives, labor unions, the UN, democracy,
Affirmative Action/consent decrees, gun control, FEMA, the PPACA, Climate Change, a Government too large , (how large is too large for a nation of 300 + million?), public school teachers and other government employees - until they need them.

I've also posted the 14 points of Fascism, which, when applied to the statements / rhetoric of Trump are enlightening, and should IMO give pause to those opposed to an authoritarian federal government when considering a vote for the Republikan nominees. We don't need a Big Brother

Fourteen Defining Characteristics Of Fascism

Keep these sage comments i mind when in the voting booth:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Correction. Conservatives are defined by what liberals say they oppose.

We're constantly told by you assholes what we believe in.

I'm not an asshole nor do I tell you (i.e. self defined conseratives) what you believe in, you do so in the words you post.
You are an asshole and this thread is an example of how you on the left try to tell us what we stand for or believe in. You project your feelings onto us collectively.

The problem with self defined conservatives is, they do not have values which represent American ethos. Which is why I've coined two phrases:

Willfully ignorant, and Callous Conservative. Both describe most of the those who attack liberals, progressives and Democrats and the policies and liberties they support.
I rest my case.

Most of your ideology is designed to simply oppose traditional conservative values. I posted an article on the subject a couple of weeks ago. What you folks on the left do is look at the world as what it should be rather than what it actually is. Some of your ideas are pure hogwash and anyone who tells you so is labeled a racist or a bigot. We're callus and stupid because we think all lives matter. We're racist because we like opportunity for the people in this country, not people who entered here illegally. We're slope headed mouth breathers because we feel that Climate Change is something we have little if no effect on. And we're retarded because we can see Hillary is totally untrustworthy. That she lies about everything, not just some things. She is pycopathetic.

You don't even know what the fuck "Justice" is.

As you try to block blacks from voting by eliminating Early voting in Michigan.

Republicans are fucking despicable bags of shit, total flaming hypocrites.

Imagine limiting voters to American citizens, forcing them to be alive still and then only allowing them to vote once! It's just anti freedom!

And which party seeks to suppress the voter, especially those who are likely voters for the Democratic Party?

And, which Party sought to raise the power of their vote for some, and reduce the power of their vote to others (on those issues which require a 2/3 + 1 to pass an Initiative to raise taxes, but not on other initiates, such as to limit marriage to only a man and a women)?

Neither party is suppressing voting. There is no citizen of this country who can't go get a free ID and vote, assuming any ID is required.

On the second paragraph, what are you referring to?

Are you a liar or totally ignorant. Voter ID's are not the only issue, or one I object to enforcing. It is when the Republican legislature or the Republican governor closes polling places and limits the days and hours to vote who are suppressing the vote of likely Democratic Candidates. Be mindful that what is a valid ID and what is not is subjective and not codified by The Congress. Want to guess why?

Republicans in CA put on the ballot an initiative requiring a 2/3 +1 vote to raise taxes. A high burden indeed, and one which gives the callous conservative vote more power than the person who supports a raise in taxes to support a cause they support.

Recently this Constitutional Amendment was repealed by CA voters as they observed the harm done by not raising taxes and not funding important matters facing the state - such as the 1989 Earthquake.

Wrong again. Trump does not represent change, if that is what you are suggesting. Trump represents a return to the past, a reactionary response build on a foundation of hate and fear, in a word: Fascism.

LOL!!!

2/3+1 is a great standard for tax hikes. If you're going to take people's shit by force, there should be a compelling justification supported by a super majority.

The voting thing cracks me up though. Gore sued to toss 30K votes in two Republican counties on technicalities. The Gore campaign wrote every county in Florida how to toss write in (largely military) votes on technicalities. And the four counties where the recounts were going on they were just voting, changing votes to Democrat.

But you people want every vote to count. What a bunch of liars. You oppose voter reform laws because Democrats are better and cheating and you know it.

But mostly, your Democrats and Republicans are virtually the same in policy and as people. The same knowledge, education and values. Yet the more you grow alike, the greater your hysterical hyperbole becomes about how they're going into Nazi darkness. And if anyone doesn't agree with your ridiculous sanctimony about the party that's virtually your reflection in the mirror, well, we're just biased. Yeah. Baa, baa, baa, you're just herded by the Democrat crook

I'm not sure if you are really insane (out of touch with reality), a basic damn liar or simply a jerk seeking attention.
Well I am sure that you get really pissed over facts because you prefer ideology over reality. I am sure that you're a fascist little progressive who can't handle liberty or respect other people's freedoms and rights.

You have the right to hold you own opinions, but not to change the facts to fit them. ...

But that is exactly what you are doing, with your attempts to define the beliefs and ideology of your enemies.

Sorry, RE-define.

If 2/3rds of a crack addicts friends + 1 keep trying to prevent him from taking speed, he might have a chance. Otherwise he'll keep mainlining the thing that makes him feel good until he's dead.

Elected officials are addicted to giving people everything they want when it comes to raising taxes. Its because its so easy to do. Making sure the money goes to where its supposed to and serving the purpose it was supposed to do is something else altogether. Repairing damage done by the 1989 earthquake was hindered by incompetence, and politics. You can see that with how long it took them to rebuild the Bay Bridge way over budget and they still did it WRONG. You cant blame the taxpayers for that.

I've been busy. This is page 30.

Can you quickly bring me up to speed on your current position on why you are refusing to accept the standard definition(s) that have been supplied, including the one I posted?

I don't recall your "standard definition", please post it.

That asked, conservatives are not all alike. The term was adopted, IMO, by a new iteration of people who are racist, ....s.

Right here your "definition" became self serving pap.

Here is a real definition, quite in depth.

Conservatism in the United States - Wikipedia

"American Conservatism is a broad system of political beliefs in the United States that is characterized by respect for American traditions, support for Judeo-Christian values, economic liberalism, anti-communism, advocacy of American exceptionalism, and a defense of Western culture from threats perceived by conservatives as posed by "creeping socialism", moral relativism, multiculturalism, and liberal internationalism. Liberty is a core value, with a particular emphasis on strengthening the free market, limiting the size and scope of government, and opposition to high taxes and government or labor union encroachment on the entrepreneur. American conservatives consider individual liberty, within the bounds of conformity to American values, as the fundamental trait of democracy, which contrasts with modern American liberals, who generally place a greater value on equality andsocial justice"

In our current culture "racist" has been morphed into nothing but a smear meaning "asshole who disagrees with me, a lib".

And that is the way you are using it here.

Knock that shit off.

Sorry, you can't tell me what to believe, and the evidence that racism continues to exist in our culture is unmistakable; to deny such is disingenuous, at best!

Let's parse the dictionary definition in terms of behavior:

First, this is a mouthful:

"American Conservatism is a broad system of political beliefs in the United States that is characterized by respect for American traditions, support for Judeo-Christian values, economic liberalism, anti-communism, advocacy of American exceptionalism, and a defense of Western culture from threats perceived by conservatives as posed by "creeping socialism", moral relativism, multiculturalism, and liberal internationalism.

Are the highlighted words examples of the behavior/beliefs of the Conservative meme today?

How do you define them, and from there we can examine the behavior and beliefs of conservatives today. But first, do you believe conservatives support Donald Trump?

Will you vote for Donald Trump? And in your case, if you do which values do you believe he expresses which are in concert with traditional American ethos (to simplify, there is no I in TEAM).

1. I am not telling you what to believe. I am telling you that your stated "Definition" of the term "conservative" is self serving pap. And then I posted a REAL definition.

2. Yes, the highlighted words are the behavior/beliefs of the Conservative meme today. If you will drop the self serving pap, I would be happy to go the list of each and every point.

3. Many conservatives support Donald Trump, obviously. I certainly do.

4. I would say that Trump hits pretty much ALL of the listed political beliefs, ESPECIALLY relative to Hillary.

1a your REAL definition is bullshit, unless you define the terms highlighted and fit them into the ideology of those who support Trump and have taken over the Republican Party, those who consider themselves to be conservatives.

2a I won't drop any of my opinions, unless proved wrong. That you seem unable to refute. The current, temporal, iteration of self defined conservatives are neo fascists, if one accepts the 14 points and actually listens to the cheers when Donald Trump speaks.

3a a REAL conservative does not support Donald Trump, a 21st Century self defined conservative (the New Right) is a neo fascist movement and dangerous.

4a Once again, what is American exceptionalism, other than a euphemism for extreme nationalism? And yet, the Trump supporter's seem to be anti government and seeking something other than a representative democracy.

The ideology of the New Right is all emotional and lacks even a hint of sagacious considerations.

1. It is not MY definition. The highlighted terms do not need defined. You are trying to invent confusion where there is none, so as to present your self serving smear as a valid competitor, when it is just propaganda and narrow mindedness on your part.

2. I cannot pretend to have a serious discussion, while you are just throwing around the Race Card and pretending that it is a reasoned argument. The proper response to being called a "racist" by a lib is a number of 4 letter words.

3.a. You are not one to even pretend to speak for "real conservatives". You have demonstrated that you have zero empathy or understanding of your enemies. Your pretense that words such as "anti-communist" shows you to be dishonest.

4. American exceptionalism - Wikipedia

American exceptionalism is one of three related ideas. The first is that the history of the United States is inherently different from other nations.[2] In this view, American exceptionalism stems from its emergence from the American Revolution, thereby becoming what political scientist Seymour Martin Lipset called "the first new nation"[3] and developing a uniquely American ideology, "Americanism", based on liberty, egalitarianism, individualism, republicanism, democracy and laissez-faire for business. This ideology itself is often referred to as "American exceptionalism."[4]

Second is the idea that the US has a unique mission to transform the world. As Abraham Lincoln put it in theGettysburg address (1863), Americans have a duty to see that "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

Third is the sense that its history and its mission give the United States a superiority over other nations.

5. It is highly ironic that you decry the emotionalism of modern conservatives, when it is painfully obvious that your irrational hatred of your enemies is such that you are attempting to redefine words to smear your enemies instead of engaging in rational debate or discussion.

Hint: Hate is an emotion.

I've argued many times that conservatives are defined on what they oppose (gay marriage, taxes, change, the ERA, sex ed in school, abortion, free contraceptives, labor unions, the UN, democracy,
Affirmative Action/consent decrees, gun control, FEMA, the PPACA, Climate Change, a Government too large , (how large is too large for a nation of 300 + million?), public school teachers and other government employees - until they need them

Try to be less irrational.

A return to the past would be a change, wouldn't it? What's wrong with returning to our industrial powerhouse years, good paying jobs, freedom in healthcare, getting Washington our of every facet of our daily lives, putting constutionally minded judges on the bench instead of left wing activists? Bringing the cost of higher education down?

Bullshit......early voting is in every state, you dumbass. Negros don't have to wait till election day to vote.

BTW, Flor-I-DUH is having problems with voters trying to vote with no I.D. and a signature that doesn’t match the one on record. They claim it's racist to reject ballots with signatures that don't jive.

I'm not an asshole nor do I tell you (i.e. self defined conseratives) what you believe in, you do so in the words you post.

The problem with self defined conservatives is, they do not have values which represent American ethos. Which is why I've coined two phrases:

Willfully ignorant, and Callous Conservative. Both describe most of the those who attack liberals, progressives and Democrats and the policies and liberties they support.

LOL, my ideology? In your opinion, what is my ideology? BTW, I will sum it up in one short paragraph after reading your opinion.

In fact I do look at the world as it is, and see ways to improve it. You will disagree, because that is what you do.
No. I disagree because it's wrong.

Since MW has cut and run I'll answer the question: My ideology can be summed up in this way, I am pragmatic and try to live by the Golden Rule.
No.....some of us have lives.

The Golden Rule is to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
When are you going to start???

I can see that. Democrats are consumed with greed for other people's gold
