Mrs. Bush's bias due to Trump's trouncing of Jeb and the Bush family in the campaign, one can't help but figure that she is just angry still about it all.
How about the other three living former FLOTUS? Partisanship?
Cherry picking my post ? I covered the emotional part also.
So Laura wasn't emotional? Fair enough.
Good grief, she's a woman isn't she ? Yes she's emotional, and running high on emotions, but our law doesn't depend on emotions to get results that are needed.

There has to be a deterrent, and deportation is the answer along with sanctions on countries that can't control their borders, and stop it's citizens from illegally crossing those borders.

Expanding presidential powers is NOT an answer. This is a congressional problem.

Oceans make great immigration borders, fly them to Europe.

This child separation issue is getting on my nerves, not only the imagery, but the game of political football going on. On one hand, I can't help but have sympathy for the children at the center of this debacle. I can't help but feel great anger towards the parents who chose to send their children thousands of miles north from Central America to the southern border, alone. On the other hand I want the law to be enforced. Sympathy should simply take a back seat. I find this conundrum troubling because both sides make valid points. This whole thing feels wrong to me.

So, what should be done?

Illegal immigration must be stopped....for many reasons but the main one being it is a threat to our national security.....all this hysteria over kids being seperated form their parents is nonsense.....as in it is just for a few days........but anyhow Trump just signed an executive order to stop the seperation of familes....but the hysteria will continue....on other thing and this has been pointed out but is being ignored by most....the obama administration also seperated kids from their families at the border and George Bush is the one who began it...yet his wife is boohooing along with the rest of the dopes.
It is not nonsense and it is not a few days and it wasnt the policy under the Obama administration.

Hatred, fear, and xenophobia are also emotions.

Well... the least popular option won. Trump is going to sign an executive order to put a stop to the separations.

Figures congress wouldn't act.

See that can? See how far they kicked it? Must be a world record.
One of the biggest problems (imo) in American politics nowadays is the the congress and house will do nothing and don't take care of business because all they care about is being reelected. Both sides of the aisle there is too few who take controversial or unpopular stances for the greater good. Part of this is because of fear of the press and propaganda.

Propose a slight tax increase for a beneficial govt. program to keep it solvent? You are now branded a huge tax and spend liberal. Propose a tax cut on a program that has too much funds or isn't as useful as it once was? You are now branded an anti govt extreme conservative.

Of course there are some extreme conservatives and big govt liberals but the press tends to pigeonhole politicians into one or the other extreme to sell papers or for political purposes.

So you are left with a political environment where the best thing to do is fly under the radar and not take any hard stances or even easy ones as you could be pigeonholed into the extremist side.

So now since the house and senate isn't getting enough done it is left to the president with executive orders, sometimes just to keep the damn government running. This leads to presidents being labeled as tyrants and abusing their post to further political agendas (and don't get me wrong they DO do this) when sometimes all they are trying to do is keep the govt running or solve problems.

It's a vicious cycle and the problem is in the house and senate. I haven't even touched on money contributions which is part of this but a huge problem in its own right.

Immigration reform should be about stopping illlegal immigrants and and only allowing legal immigration for those who have similar cultural values and have some needed skill aka....immigration should be based on letting in those who have something to contribute, are healthy and truly want to become Americans.

Hiya TK. So I wanted to ask about this premise -- where do you get this idea that parents are sending their children thousands of miles alone?

I just want to figure out where these stories get started.

Well, that comes from the statements made by others here and facts I've read elsewhere on the internet that a lot of these children come from Central America... which is 1,505 miles from our border if you go from there to Guatemala. Not to mention the DHS-SEC said that 10,000 children came here unaccompanied.

But like I said, I was/still am conflicted about this issue. I took one side and I didn't like what came out of my head, and I took the other and I didn't like it either.

Thanks. I try to actually post something substantive on here from time to time.

I wasn't asking about the geography. I know that part. In fact you should see my ridiculous collection of maps.

I'm asking where you get the idea that "parents are sending their children". And "alone".

If the kids were being "sent" --- how would they get separated here?

That's it! And in one fell swoop you have defeated the liberal narrative about family separation.

Nah, if you were paying attention to the briefing the DHS gave, she pointed out that 10,000 of these children were unaccompanied when they arrived at the border. Who sent them there?

The other 2000 were in fact separated as she mentioned.

Me too.

Did these children come here alone? Have you been asleep for a week?

Of the 12000 being detained, 10000 indeed, crossed the boarder ALONE.

Link: Kirstjen Nielsen Addresses Families Separation at Border: Full Transcript

"NIELSEN: So I want to be clear on a couple of other things. The vast majority, vast, vast majority of children who are in the care of H.H.S. right now — 10,000 of the 12,000 — were sent here alone by their parents. That is when they were separated. So somehow we’ve conflated everything. But there is two separate issues. 10,000 of those currently in custody were sent by their parents with strangers to undertake a completely dangerous and deadly travel alone."

Note: "sent by their parents with strangers"

Good enough?
She's the one who didn't know where the girls and the toddlers are. And she's the one Trump took to the woodshed via twitter because he thought she was not nearly tough enough on people at the border.

I have reason to doubt her veracity.

Do you need the photo's of the unaccompanied minors, or those news stories?
I'd love to see photos of the children inside the prisons. I wonder why we cannot see photos of the girls and the toddlers. I wonder why the only documentation we have seen is supplied by the Trump administration. And I wonder why, given the fact that all these images are controlled by this administration, Trump says the media is cherry picking photos that make him look bad. I wonder why he thinks photos are making him look bad while it is, in fact, his policy that is making him look bad.

I wonder why those who support this unnecessary cruelty is a winning policy. I wonder why those folks have shelved their morality to support Trump.

Trump is having them carved up and used to restock the White House meat freezer, and their organs are being removed and sold to hospitals, and kiddie porn movies are being filmed, too, that's why.

Oh wait, those all stuff the Democrats support and engage in .... never mind.

So tell us how many you're signing up to sponsor.
Why does finding the separation of toddlers from parents disturbing require a sponsorship of refugees to be valid? Why is applying for asylum illegal?

Why not sponsor them? They aren't 'refugees', they just want more money, and the pay here is better as are the social services. They also put those children at risk form armed criminals, so let's quit pretending they're responsible parents or relatives and have the 'best interested of the children' at heart.

And we understand why sponsorship isn't an option for the fake 'humanitarians'; the whole point of encouraging this wave of criminals was to use them as photo ops to bash Trump, not any genuine humanitarian cause, so it wooed just be silly for the media and the Trump bashers to actually put up or shut up; that's not the point of this little media circus, is it? Nah, and besides, who on the left wants to feed kids when they need all their money for concert tickets, pot, meth, and other cool stuff???

.
So tell us how many you're signing up to sponsor. Demonstrate some real concern, instead of just lying on the internet about your fake 'humanitarianism' like all the other 'humanitarians' that wouldn't be caught dead sponsoring any of these 'refugees'.

It's illegal for anyone other than a family member to sponsor an immigrant wanting to enter the country.

So ... Expecting a bleeding heart Progressive to actually put their money where their mouth is ...
Would not only be unrealistic ... But they have been provided an adequate excuse for that scenario.

Unless of course ... You are expecting them to break the law.
In which case it would be no different than someone breaking the law to enter the country any other way.

.

There are several ways to do it; you don't have to be a family member in all cases. That's the impression the INS tries to give, but reading further and deeper you find that's not the entire case, especially if they're claiming 'asylum'. And no they have no excuses, other than their own criminal records and the like.
