According to ABC, the lead investigator wanted to arrest the killer but his boss said no.

Lead Homicide Investigator on the scene signed an affidavit the night of the murder that he didn't believe Zimmerman's story and believed he committed a crime.

"Serino filed an affidavit on Feb. 26, the night that Martin was shot and killed by Zimmerman, that stated he was unconvinced Zimmerman's version of events. "

Of course Zimmerman shouldn't go to jail, even if arrested! What is this all about? He could be arrested like everyone else that's arrested and let go with a court date unless there is any reason to believe he would leave the jurisdiction. He can be given bail sufficient to guarantee his court appearances, but unless there is some reason to believe he would leave, he woudn't be in jail. He should go to jail, or prison if convicted, but he hasn't been convicted of anything.

Perhaps not in a COURT OF LAW, but in the court of racist public opinion, he'd be lynched already.
