Can a liberal at least admit that a bortion as a form of birth control is at least morally questionable? you're prepared to kill your own child because it's inconvenient to you. It would entirely depend at what point in the pregnancy you are talking about, doesn't it?

At the point that most abortions are performed, the fetus is the size of a kidney bean and looks like a cocktail shrimp. It's sort of silly to call it a "baby" at that point.

Obviously, it's minor surgery, and something most people should avoid.

But here's why I don't take the moralizations of the right wing seriously on this issue anymore. (I used to, and fairly recently.)

In France, abortion is not only legal, but the government pays for them, no questions asked. Yet French women have abortions at half the rate of American women. Why? Stronger sex education, paid family and medical leave, strong protections for women who go on maternity leave to get their jobs back.

Meanwhile, in the Phillippines, abortion is against the law in most cases. Yet Filipana women have 500-800K abortions a year, a greater abortion rate than in the United States.

Now, if the right was serious about reducing the number of abortions, they'd want us to be more like France and less like the Philippines. But that's not the position you all take.

Since conservatives are more likely to act in the best interest of children: get married, get financially stable, "choose" to have children, have "both" parents support the children, take responsibility for the proper upbringing of the children, see that the chidren are educated, teach the children morals, encourage the children to act in a responsible manner, and assist the grown children with problems when they ask, IMHO, it is the conservatives that "want" children.

Compare to libs: lay down with numerous sex partners, and their diseases, get pregnant to a "loser" (a male that has no intention of supporting a child), go to the gov't for assistance for paying for the child's birth, find out the gov't is offering more money for "disabled" children and encourage (or drug children) to act more disabled in front of "doctor", request assistance from gov't to educate child, and pay for child care, leave children unattended or in "cheap" care so single parent can continue their social life, demand teachers give child better grades, demand society pay for child's college, encourage children to take advantage of same system that raised said child (by being a teen mom).

The women on the pill would have decreased the birth rate even more. And there was a hit to the birth rate starting in 1965 when the pill became available, but it had leveled off by 1970.

So why the pill DID lower the birth rate, legalizing abortion didn't. Because there were just as many women having abortions before Roe as after.

Abortion laws were like Prostitution laws. Yeah, it was against the law, but no one was really enforcing it.
