Alabama supreme court tells SC to take a hike on marriage opinion

Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel said, “The ruling last year by the Alabama Supreme Court was historic, and is one of the most researched and well-reasoned opinions on marriage to be issued by any court in the country. Today’s opinion by the Alabama Supreme Court calling the U.S. Supreme Court’s marriage opinion ‘illegitimate’ will be remembered in history like the ‘shot heard around the world.”

That really made :lmao:

What's going to be really interesting is whether some official in AL is willing to step up and rebuke the state court and risk getting arrested. It'll be funny watching the state lose a Habeus petition.

Yeah...that is about as effective as George Wallace standing at the college door.....

The Obergefell v. Hodges decision pivoted upon the due process and equal protection rights of Amendment XIV. The Alabama SC have their collective heads up their collective anal orifices, if as the articles states, that SCOTUS had no standing to hear the case. That's just more States' Rights BS.

But is it really? Could it be possible this is part of a wider plan by the assorted trite wing and evangelical bigots? These cases are coming out all over regarding gay marriage and abortion and could get pushed through the appellate courts soon. Those cases coming before SCOTUS next session being heard with a 4-4 decisions could mean the expunging of rulings such as Obergefell v. Hodges and Roe v. Wade. With a tie of the Supremes the lower Court ruling stands.

Not much for conspiracy theories but political machinations have become a mainstay of politics in this here USA! Just sayin' there might be some definite purpose to the Senate Judicial Committee sitting on their hands.

Alabama Supreme Court Refuses Challenge to Gay Marriage
Alabama Court Refuses to Defy Supreme Court on Gay Marriage

The Alabama Supreme Court refused Friday to defy the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that effectively legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, cutting off a conservative bid to prevent gay weddings in the state.

The court issued a one-sentence order dismissing a challenge by a probate judge and a conservative policy group that wanted the state to bar gay marriage despite the landmark federal decision.

In one of several written opinions accompanying the order, Justice Greg Shaw called the decision a "clear refusal" to ignore the Supreme Court ruling last June.

Apparently the Alabama Supreme Court stomped its feet and slammed the door, when it was told it had to clean up its room.

Alabama is following constitution SC didn't as the 4 CORRECT justices stated.

A meaningless and empty whine. The court just told Alabama 8-0 to get their shit together when it came to recognizing same-sex adoptions performed in other states.

Now Alabama's money will be spent elsewhere instead of maintaining their library. Which is one shelf in a guy named Clefus basement

Alabama can stomp its feet as much as my child does when she doesn't like me telling her to clean her room.

But both my daughter and Alabama end up doing the right thing- and what they are told.
