But that aside, the bankruptcy in the face of medical bills is not really a good option when you have a family that needs educating. And Medicaid is not an option if you have an illness like cancer or a heart attack that is not going to chronically disable you. The Medicaid option only works if you have a stroke or something that puts in in a nursing home with no hope of returning to employment.

As you've been trying to point out to the partisans, there needs to be universal care, but no private insurance can possibly cov er the more expensive illnesses. And there needs to be a way for people to discharge that cost without ruining their abilities to see their families get educated, housed and eventually retired.
