Actually, no, it wasn't a war crime back during WW2. But, the firebombing of Dresden, as well as many other atrocities committed during that war caused the Geneva Conventions to be held, and they weren't started until 1949, a couple of years after WWII had been ended. And, they have been convened and updated after just about every major conflict. And yeah, not only is it against the Geneva Conventions, but it is also against American law to destroy cultural sites.

You and Old Lady need to read up on the Geneva Conventions. While what happened back in WWII could be construed as various war crimes, there were no Geneva Conventions yet. So, without the Conventions, you couldn't charge a person with war crimes. They were first held back in 1949 after WWII ended, and have been updated after most major conflicts since.

So, if anyone brings up WWII or conflicts prior to that and ask if war crimes were committed, the answer is no, because the Geneva Conventions didn't take effect until 1949.
