Asian-American Student Has Near-Perfect 1590 out of 1600 SAT Score and a 4.65 GPA, Gets Ugly Shock After Applications to Elite Universities

To those who say Harvard doesn’t lower its standards for blacks, it actually sends out recruitment letters to blacks with only an 1100 combined SAT score - nothing particularly remarkable.

They cutoff for Asian students is 1350, and whites 1310.

No it is not, I did not say it was common, but 15,000 of them a year means you need something else to make you stand out if you wish to get into a top school
This young man was denied by several prestigious universities simply because he is Asian. These institutions each have an enrollment of 20 to 30 thousand students. He has the qualifications to enroll in any prestigious university. Denying a well earned life changing opportunity because of one’s race, something which is beyond one’s control, is not something which should happen in America.

Those who say that he has no extra circular activities which added to his resumé are just guessing.

The Assistance To Single Women With Children part of the Social Security Act provided grants to states as Aid To Dependent Children. Eventually the name of the program was changed to Aid to Families with Dependent Children. This was welfare folks. Assistance for single moms with children and no daddy at home. In 1935. Blacks were excluded. Aid to Dependent Children functioned mainly to provide federal grants to help the states with mothers’ aid laws that began in 1910. The ADC plan was written by two ladies who had been former directors of what was at the time called the U.S. Children’s Bureau. The Children’s Bureau’s goal was to provide aid to all children whose mothers had no support from a husband no matter how they got into that position. From the Children’s Bureau in 1910 until 1965, no one talked about how the welfare state was wrong and created the disintegration of the white family.

Tying welfare to black childbirth is a racist meme started by Ronald Reagan.

“Corporate welfare often subsidizes failing and mismanaged businesses and induces firms to spend more time on lobbying rather than on making better products. Instead of correcting market failures, federal subsidies misallocate resources and introduce government failures into the marketplace.”

The problem with making welfare about nonwhites and poor white people is that wealthy whites get most of the government handouts and always have. In 2006, approximately fifty-nine billion was spent on welfare for poor and moderate-income Americans. About ninety-two billion was spent on corporate subsidies. In 2012, ninety eight billion was spent on corporate subsidies. These handouts to corporations way exceed that given to households with children. People aren't getting wealthy having children and instead of investing in corporate subsidies our best investment is in our children.

I am opposed to corporate welfare and I am opposed to welfare checks for illegitimate children.

Our country is in decline for a number of reasons, one of which is that leftists value “diversity” over the best and most competent. That’s not to say that a black will never be the best and most competent, but in about 88% of cases, it will be someone else.
Based on what?

”Diversity” is how we got such with total incompetents as Press Secretary and Vice President. Biden valued “diversity” over competence.

You assume you can’t have diversity and competence. That it can only be one or the other, or that there is only one metric to measure competence.

People who are different from one another in race, gender and other dimensions bring unique information and experiences to bear on the task at hand. A male and a female engineer might have perspectives as different from each other as an engineer and a physicist—and that is a good thing.

…they found that, on average, “female representation in top management leads to an increase of $42 million in firm value.” They also measured the firms’ “innovation intensity” through the ratio of research and development expenses to assets. They found that companies that prioritized innovation saw greater financial gains when women were part of the top leadership ranks.

Racial diversity can deliver the same kinds of benefits. In a study conducted in 2003, Orlando Richard, now at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and his colleagues surveyed executives at 177 national banks in the U.S., then put together a database comparing financial performance, racial diversity and the emphasis the bank presidents put on innovation.
For innovation-focused banks, increases in racial diversity were clearly related to enhanced financial performance.

The article goes further, and shows how diversity doesn’t just correlate with improved performance but is causal.

In 2006 Margaret Neale of Stanford University, Gregory Northcraft of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and I set out to examine the impact of racial diversity on small decision-making groups in an experiment where sharing information was a requirement for success. Our subjects were undergraduate students taking business courses at the University of Illinois. We put together three-person groups—some consisting of all white members, others with two white members and one nonwhite member—and had them perform a murder mystery exercise. We made sure that all group members shared a common set of information, but we also gave each member important clues that only he or she knew. To find out who committed the murder, the group members would have to share all the information they collectively possessed during discussion. The groups with racial diversity significantly outperformed the groups with no racial diversity. Being with similar others leads us to think we all hold the same information and share the same perspective. This perspective, which stopped the all-white groups from effectively processing the information, is what hinders creativity and innovation.

(P.S. We get total incompetents without diversity).

No, but that’s different: a female to examine your female genitalia. I can understand your comfort concerns.

That is very different than saying you’re uncomfortable with a male dentist, or cardiologist, or podiatrist. Then it would be sexist.

It really isn‘t that much different except it is culture rather than gender.

Here are several articles with examples:

or this one (under “results” )

Both illustrate a need for medical professionals who are familiar with the culture and languages of tbe communities they serve and that doesn’t really come from book learning.

You can have the “best” doctor but he isn’t the “best” if he can’t connect to the patients or completely misunderstands the nature of the problem or the patients don’t trust him.

He said Harvard sends recruitment letters to African-American, Native American and Hispanic high schoolers with mid-range SAT scores, around 1100 on math and verbal combined out of a possible 1600, CNN reported.

Asian-Americans only receive a recruitment letter if they score at least 250 points higher — 1350 for women, and 1380 for men.

Fitzsimmons explained a similar process for white wannabe students in states that don’t see a lot of Harvard attendees, like Montana or Nevada. Students in those states would receive a recruitment letter if they had at least a 1310 on their SATs.

Racial quotas are unacceptable. Period. Admission should be based on academic achievement. This young man is amongst the nation’s highest achievers.
Admissions have never been based on GPA/Test Scores alone.

I work with admissions for our graduate programs in a state university. We look at GPA and require a minimum 3.0, we look at what courses they took, their resume, a required essay (statement of purpose) and what schools their undergraduate work was done in. We require reference letters and they also have an interview with a faculty member. We look at the entire package. Top academic scores is no guarantee of admission if other factors are deficient or the student is not a good fit. I suspect the undergraduate programs of these very competitive universities are similar.

A remarkably high GRE score to the point of a near perfect score and a GPA of well over 4.0 is going to ensure one gets into grad school just about anywhere.

Why are you supporting the obvious race based crap?

No it won’t. I know for a fact it doesn’t. It certainly improves chances a great deal but if other elements are lacking it might not be accepted.

Racial quotas do not exist dumb ass. Admissions are based on a number of criyeria and I don't see any of you whites barking about legacy preferences given to whites without cosideration of academic achievement.

The point is that they send out recruitment letters with different cut-off scores depending on race - with lower standards for blacks, Hispanics, and Natives, and substantially higher for whites and Asians.

That’s racist.

You're an idiot. Asians are a protected class relative to AA. So if he got denied, it was not for someone of color.

Also, one of the schools he was denied was in CA and they have a race neutral policy.
