Don't laugh, but can't the farmers plant something else? Wheat? Corn? LIMA BEANS? (I really like them and they're actually in short supply at our grocery store)

Any grain like wheat or corn that is grown in place of the beans will just drive down the price for those items and the farmers will not cover what it cost to grow them.

This year, for only the 3rd time in the history of the country, there were more soybean acres planned than corn, because there was more excess corn at the end of the year than expected. It would not take many of those soybean acres switching to corn to crash that market.

Crops like lima beans take different equipment to harvest lima beans are grown mostly in the Northeast and the Northwest as the land and climate in the midwest is not conducive to lima beans.
