Deal Emerging: Where Does the GOP Go From Here?

And really, would it be such a terrible thing, even if we had to keep the individual mandate, which there would be ways around, but even if we had to keep WOULD IT BE THE END OF THE FREAKIGN FREE WORLD

to have a healthcare scheme where taxing insurors and doctors raised money that we used to pay for other people to have insurance for their kids.

I mean are they seriously thinking we're going Cuba here? Well they are, and THIS IS THE CRAZY coming out.

That's not even my biggest concern right now.

If you don't like the law - get the votes to repeal it. If you can't get enough votes to repeal it, then use your clout to improve it. And if you don't even have the clout to improve it, then make your case to the people and GET the clout/votes you need.

But these scorched earth tactics are LOSING them support. So it's stupid.

And I just HATE stupid. Especially when stupid is hell bent on dragging everyone else down to their level.

Basically the old line about lawyers:

When the facts are against you, pound the facts.
When the witness is a against you, pound the witness.
When both are against you, pound the table and act like a brat.

It fits the TEA party perfectly.

Grab your ankles Pubs...here it comes.

makes you wonder if it was worth it...don't it guys?

you libs better bend over to

we are already seeing the angry over the cost to people for the purchase of this commie program, ObamaNOcare

I can't wait

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picking a stupid fight - with a very predictable outcome.

And losing support in the process - further damaging their ability to influence policy.

It's just so stupid.

Oh yeah. Citizens United is an abomination. It is one the worst pieces of legislation that has ever been introduced in this country.

You saw it in the 2012 election when candidates in the GOP Clown Car had unlimited funds to run futile campaigns. The eventual GOP candidate burnt himself out before he even got to the convention

Now anonymous contributors are lining up on both sides of a GOP Civil War. The TeaTards lack the numbers but have the political clout to bully moderate Republicans into submission

I won't call them names, but really would it be terrible if the TPM primaried out a bunch of establishment house members and then had to run in general elections?

Yes

Because in a gerrymandered Republican district they will win and act like fucking retards once they get to Washington

In the great GOP Temper Tantrum of 2013.....What did Republicans gain?

Did they affect Obamacare? No
Did they enhance the power and reputation of their party? No
Did they help their country in any way? No

So one can only ask...

Why Republicans? Why?

They may have won a tax cut--for the UNIONS!!

You know, The GOP could have won alot more by not trying....:eusa_think:

Well, you're right, but there are two messages here. 1) we do have too much deficit spending 2) Obamacare is socialism and Obama is a socialist and not a christian. Both are beliefs of the TPM, though the latter is patently absurd. I mean Ionesco absurd. Like Rhino (the real kind) in a room and no one will acknowedge there's a beast in the room.

So, perhaps the TPM will primary out all gopers who refuse to delink ending Obamacare from closing the govt and default. I believe in voters ... if the media forces the candidates to tell the truth of what they want to do. If we get 50 Mourdoch v. Donnelly house races, I think Donnelly wins more the 50%, and utlimately that weakens the TPM.

The TPM may kill the GOP, but a conservative and sane party will always exist in America because fundamentally we are mostly conservative and sane.

that's all well and good, but don't sell a bunch of voters on the notion that 50 house members can derail a law.

U.S. Constitution Article I Section 7.

All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives[/SIE]
; but the Senate may propose or concur with amendments as on other Bills.

sure, but there's gerrymandered and there's crazy. Absolutely there are districts out there who are bees knees overTed Cruz and Mike Lee. But there may be others who'll go for a mainstream, though left leaning, Donnelly over a nut.

I fail to see the end game in the GOP strategy

What did they hope to gain? This whole thing has turned out worse than they could possibly imagine

Did the SCOTUS rule that the ACA is a NEW Federal Tax?

Where the fuck did it originate?

"The roll was called shortly after 1 a.m., with Washington still snowbound after a weekend blizzard, and the Senate voted on party lines to cut off a Republican filibuster of a package of changes to the health care bill by the majority leader, Harry Reid of Nevada.

“It’s obvious why the majority has cooked up this amendment in secret, has introduced it in the middle of a snowstorm, has scheduled the Senate to come in session at midnight, has scheduled a vote for 1 a.m., is insisting that it be passed before Christmas — because they don’t want the American people to know what’s in it,” said

Senator Lamar Alexander, Republican of Tennessee.

.... Or write your responses in 100-point type

..... or put a cutesy emoticon on a non-response

And they wonder why they are crashing and burning????

"Just wait till ....."
I've heard that for five years and guess what? NONE of the predicted turnarounds have happened. Instead of taking personal responsibility for stupid tactics - they blame the media. In spite of the fact that these days "the media" includes about a giga-million news outlets that range all over the political spectrum.

If you want to influence policy, if you want to correct wrongs, and enact good things, you have to stop being stupid about it. Make your case - win your case. Or at least build your support by offering real alternatives that are more detailed than a bumper sticker.

Holding your breath until you turn purple is not working. Try something different!

Agree 100%.

And by linking those two points and being so stupid about it, then point one (a VERY important and true point imho) doesn't get addressed.

Fight Overspending.
Don't fight Obama (it's a moot point - he won and he can't run again). They are turning it into something that just looks like a mean-spirited, petty, personal vendetta. And they are losing support for the real fight in the process. I hate it. It's just so counter-productive and stupid.

ACA is a law. The individual mandate is one of the ways that law gets funded.

The Healthcare Exchanges are not a tax, neither is the requirement to cover pre-existing conditions

If Republicans can find another way to fund it, they are welcome to try
