Democrats vs Blacks

As long as the black community sees itself as separate and apart of America, they can't be helped, only used, pandered to and manipulated for someone else's purpose.

YES, agreed completely.

That's why it seems to me that the GOP would want to deliver a message that demonstrates clearly to blacks that we all have the same goals, that those who keep telling them that they are somehow "different" are WRONG.

That would take some serious balls, though, because it flies directly in the face of the orthodoxy of division they've heard since they were born

And by the way, they'd also have to get in the face of those on their own side who are keeping us divided, too.

But that's what it's gonna take. Who in the GOP is brave enough to take this on? Anyone?

You two should worry more about those people who actually SUPPORT the Rethugs as opposed to worrying about people you actually don't like very much. Like black people.

Are you really trying to say the rich white people or poor red neck white people of the republican party have much of anything in common with black people? Hell you all don't even like black people.

They are all demorat stooges to you all. Sucking off the government teat. Lining up for hand outs. Right? I mean, this is what I read on here every day of the week.

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed under LBJ.

It was rejected by Democrats in 1957 as I recall, including Kennedy..

Also recall that it would not have never passed without Republicans.

Democrats just like to steal ALL the credit..they do that sorta thing,,

It was rejected by (Southern, White, Conservative, Christian) Democrats.

It was proposed by LIBERAL Republicans.

:laugh2:

So JFK was a Southern White Conservative Christian ? ... {And I suppose he was shot from the grassy knoll by a time travelling tea party fanatic}

The Democrats have long been the Party of Oppression when it comes to African Americans, nothing has changed , only the Methods and the Spin.

What exactly have Republicans done for Blacks...?

Ask MLK and Eisenhower, while LBJ blocked the Civil Rights Act.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed under LBJ.

Starting in the 60s Democratic Strategists realized the importance of the Negro vote and began courting African Americans. The Civil Rights movement was already gaining steam thanks to initiatives began by President Eisenhower. President Johnson gave a speech in which the Democratic courting of African Americans is rationalized.

These Negroes, they're getting pretty uppity these days and that's a problem for us since they've got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now, we've got to do something about this; we've got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference. for if we don't move at all, then their allies [The Republicans] will line up against us and there will be no way of stopping them, we'll lose the filibuster and there will be no way of putting the brake on all sorts of wild legislation, it'll be reconstruction all over again Lyndon Johnson

The House has been controlled by Republicans since 2011. What has the House majority done for "blacks"?

We're talking about Democrats, try to follow along.

btw Democrats controlled 100% of the federally elected power the first 2 years of Obama's presidency and they've controlled 66.6% since then..that means Republicans have a 33.3 % responsibility and blame. Granted, Harry Reid/Obama can't negotiate worth a shit and are the cork in the butt of any progress..

Yeah go ahead, lets follow along.

You 33% crapola is just that, crapola. Conservatives have used their toehold on power to block anything constructive going on in government. Add to that, they actively called for this president, a black man, and the first one elected as President of the United States, to fail. This has been the least productive and perhaps the most dangerous congress in history and have targeted anything that helps black folks.

And lets stroll down memory lane. Those southern democrats were whistling Dixie, war of northern aggression, state's rights, star and bars waving Dixiecrats. Democrats now adays don't talk about that nonsense, that would be today's Republicans. And you have folks like Rand Paul waxing philosophically about how government should not impose regulations forcing private businesses to serve blacks, completely forgetting that the civil rights movement began at Woolworth lunch counters and on National City Line buses.

Fast forward to today where you folks are still waving the confederate flag, denigrating national black leaders like Al Sharpton, defending racist celebrities like Paula Deen and Phil Robertson and talking about cutting benefits on folks who's ancestors came here in shackles and chains while lying in their own filth.

You can forget the black vote for a long long time.

On the other hand, to Democrats/liberals, all African-Americans who show, believe and profess even the slightest Republican/conservative tendency, are "traitors to their race" and "Uncle Toms".

The bill passed the House with a vote of 285 to 126 (Republicans 167-19 for, Democrats 118-107 for) [4] and the Senate 72 to 18 (Republicans 43-0 for, Democrats 29-18 for).[5] President Eisenhower signed it on September 9, 1957.

The Democratic Senate Majority Leader, Lyndon Baines Johnson from Texas, realized that the bill and its journey through Congress could tear apart his party, whose southern bloc was anti-civil rights and northern members were more pro-civil rights. Southern senators occupied chairs of numerous important committees due to their long seniority. Johnson sent the bill to the judiciary committee, led by Senator James Eastland from Mississippi, who proceeded to change and alter the bill almost beyond recognition. Senator Richard Russell from Georgia had claimed the bill was an example of the federal government wanting to impose its laws on states. Johnson sought recognition from civil rights advocates for passing the bill, while also receiving recognition from the mostly southern anti-civil rights Democrats for reducing it so much as to kill it.[6]

Well he did sign the 1964 bill when he had no choice....What was it he said again? Oh yea. "I will have those ******* voting democrat for decades"

When you take something this well know out of context you only look more foolish than thought possible.

Legislative process is like sausage...you may not be able to stomach it like some of us do. It's what separates the men from the girlyman/boys like you.

This is abundantly clear to any of us southerners who are old enough to remember how all the Dixiecrats abandoned their party to love up on Jerry Falwell and Ronald Reagan. Today I look at the garbage my relatives post on facebook regarding Jesus, guns and scary black people and wonder to myself how the hell I became a liberal coming from such ignorance.

Yes it was. It was correct and to the point. Maybe you should try learning history instead of repeating lies. Start with Byrd.

I never ever knew anyone who was a republican growing up, the consensus was that the republicans were a bunch of yankee carpetbagging dickheads who still wanted to punish the south for the civil war. Some of them jumped ship after Johnson and rest followed during the Carter administration when it became clear that he was not a racist scumbag like them. I lived this history, firsthand, I need no blog post to educate me who all the 60s segregationists voted for in the 80s. Give it up, the republicans welcomed the racist/hardcore christian element of the south with open arms and are still paying the price for letting them guide the social platform.

Name who? Just where do you think the 1960s democratic voter of the south went if they did not switch parties? Did they all just give up on politics or suddenly become liberals? I am not sure what point you are trying to make here other than deny, deny, deny the demographics of the era, The electoral maps tell the entire story.

No one in the Confederacy was pardoned after the war, not even Jefferson Davis. That is because they hadn't committed any crime.

Just treason

Nope. Lincoln committed treason, not the Confederacy. Read the definition in the Constitution and explain where I am wrong.
