CDZ Guns Tanks and Nucklear Weapons. The second amendment.

the effectivness of a single person to commit murder with arms was not forseen by the founding fathers.
And that has what to do with the Constitution? :dunno:

Other than an exercise in history and philosophy it means nothing.

Oh and by the way, the US was not the first democracy (and in fact we're a democratic republic not a true democracy). Greece was the first known democracy and supposedly it was a true democracy, with the problems that are associated with that form of government.
greece was a democracy of 10000 free man 150 000 women with no vote and 140 000 slaves

Those are actual numbers from Mother Jones, their mass shooting list....and from the FBI and the CDC.......I took the mass shootings with Rifles with detachable magazines from the list by Mother JOnes. where they detail all the mass shootings going back to 1982.....and they even updated the list with the new obama standard of 3 killed, instead of the old standard of 4 killed.........

The facts, the statistics and reality show you are wrong on everything....don't get mad, get educated....

It has been answered, but you probably missed it. On the same note though, did you know that the federal government has more restrictions on black powder storage (bulk) and accounting than modern weapons? Maybe you should petition the federal government, in attempts to get back up to speed with the whole muzzleloader issue.

the 2nd amendmend was made in 1784 when arms meant muzzle loaded muskets.

not assault rifles machineguns tanks nuclear weapons
I have a sterling record as a gun control advocate on this board. I believe that assault weapons are, in fact, a public health hazard.

But I understand that the constitution is elastic enough to cover changes in technology. Certainly the founding fathers could not conceive of machine guns, rocket propelled grenades, thermonuclear warheads.

But the could not envisage computers, telephones and the internet either. When the 4th amendment speaks of unwarranted searches and seizures of 'letters', we understand that this extends to computers and e-mails as well. Faxes, telephone communications, and personal messages are just as private as posted letters.

Let us then assume that semi-automatic weapons, as dangerous and unnecessary as they are, can be considered 'arms' under the meaning of the second amendment.

Now, the constitution was written for the people. It is not a suicide pact. It is, in fact, an elastic document that serves successive generations as it served our predecessors.

Add everything together, make all the necessary caveats, carry the two, and we reach the conclusion that there are somewhere around 3,750,000 AR-15-type rifles in the United States today. If there are around 310 million firearms in the USA today, that means these auto-loading assault-style rifles make up around 1 percent of the total arsenal.
The class of assault weapons goes beyond the AR-15. What defines a 'mass shooting' among your statistics? Why has the NRA blocked funding for a proper study of gun death by the CDC?

If the Ford Pinto and lawn darts can be considered health hazards, why not the gun?

1) I used all rifles with detachable magazines and went through each shooting on the Mother Jones list from 1982-2016...they list all of the weapons found on the mass shooter....wether he used those for the shooting or not......

2) A mass shooting according to Mother Jones is the new standard set by obama....3 or more dead in a public place

3) The NRA has not blocked any research....I have listed over and over again the gun research done by the CDC....

Hey, I understand and respect your position on the issue, but I really don't think there is a great movement to progress the idea that firearms aren't dangerous. The problem people keep running into is the fact our right to bear arms is protected in the Constitution. I am not sure anyone decided to protect that right because firearms were safe, and it probably had more to do with the fact they can kill people.

As much as people like to try and bastardize the Constitution with interpretations, I wonder exactly what the heck they think protecting the "free State" means, or what the militia was for. As a hint, it doesn't have squat to do with hunting.

==================

The Deleware study of 2015...

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/25/us/cdc-gun-violence-wilmington.html?_r=0

When epidemiologists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention came to this city, they were not here to track an outbreak of meningitis or study the effectiveness of a particular vaccine.

They were here to examine gun violence.

This city of about 70,000 had a 45 percent jump in shootings from 2011 to 2013, and the violence has remained stubbornly high; 25 shooting deaths have been reported this year, slightly more than last year, according to the mayor’s office
.-------

The final report, which has been submitted to the state, reached a conclusion that many here said they already knew: that there are certain patterns in the lives of many who commit gun violence.

“The majority of individuals involved in urban firearm violence are young men with substantial violence involvement preceding the more serious offense of a firearm crime,” the report said. “Our findings suggest that integrating data systems could help these individuals better receive the early, comprehensive help that they need to prevent violence involvement.”

Researchers analyzed data on 569 people charged with firearm crimes from 2009 to May 21, 2014, and looked for certain risk factors in their lives, such as whether they had been unemployed, had received help from assistance programs, had been possible victims of child abuse, or had been shot or stabbed. The idea was to show that linking such data could create a better understanding of who might need help before becoming involved in violence.

How are they a health hazard.......? Numbers and facts should show that..right...but they don't....there is not one fact that supports what you believe.....

about 8 million rifles with detachable magazines in this country, 5 million AR-15s

157 deaths in mass public shootings with rifles with detachable magzines.......in 34 years....

Cars...every single year....33,000...

Knives in 2014...... 1,567.....and over 1,500 every year....

How exactly are they a health hazard...

On the CDC guns are 17 on the top 20 ways to die in this country....

How Many Assault Weapons Are There in America? How Much Would It Cost the Government To Buy Them Back?

I suggest you go to the Mother Jones link.....and count the numbers yourself.........I used Rifles with detachable magazines as the standard.......that would include AR-15s, mini-14s, AK-47s, AK-74s and any weapon using a detachable magazine...

I did not count bolt action rifles, or shotguns or semi-auto pistols.......which some anti gun sites now include as Assault weapons...

and in 1787 that means every man got a musket

not a sniper rifle killing at 1.5 km

Go look up Marques of Reprisal in the Constitution and what it means. At the founding, CITIZENS could own the equivalent of BATTLESHIPS. And they could be chartered and PAID to go kill Islamic pirates and other entities.

6 or 8 cannons on a fast ship was state of the naval art. I think it was pretty clear what the "intent" was.

Here is the link to Mother Jones...it is kind of annoying because they do include all the details of the shooting so you have to side scroll, or I did anyway......

If your count is different from mine, please let me know........

the NRA blocks any scientific studys because they would prove that the nr 1 danger to the safety of citizens in the USA is the NRA. the NRA is the Nr 1 terrorist organization in the USA

Do you realize that homicide by gun is 17 out of the top 20 causes of death at the CDC?
