Harry reid ready to rush through internet sales tax; obama endorses

Im going to guestimate that 50% of my customers look online. Of those about 90% buy online. This trend will only grow and there is nothing I can do to compete under the current set up. NOTHING

Clearly I do and you can fuck off with your stupid insults.

By your reasoning no real conservative would want the bottom half of our country to be taxed.

You feel you're entitled to steal more money from Taxpayers because you think it's unfair and you deserve it. And that's exactly how the Socialist/Progressive Entitlement moochers feel about things. I think it's pretty clear you're a Progressive-leaning Neo-Conservative. I can't say you're a real Conservative at this point. And that's very disappointing.

Steal? Do you have any idea how labor intensive my fucking job is? Most internet retailers already beat most prices because they have no overhead as compared to brick and morter businesses. Then you give them the unfair advantage of no taxes and IM THE ONE STEALING?

Again fuck you!

You just want cheap products and don't care about the impact of you saving a few dollars. In most cases my cost is higher than internet prices before taxes or profit are figured in. Am I supposed to give shit away for free?

There you go again. Whining about things being unfair. You really do feel you're entitled and deserve this. You're just justifying stealing from fellow Americans. It's an Entitlement attitude. How are you any different than your average Socialist/Progressive Entitlement moocher?

Just another government money grab, supported by retailers.....the internet has changed alot of things in life, retailers are upset, but they will still be needed and I shouldnt have to pay income tax.

Sales tax over the internet would be interstate commerce....so lets ditch the income tax and make a federal sales tax...voila!!!! everyone is happy.

They need to do better and compete. That's America and Capitalism. This is pure Entitlement Theft. More Corporate Welfare. And as usual, it's the average Citizen who will pay.

Do you have any valid arguments to put forth or are you just going to continue with off the cuff insults?

As a retailer and service provider I realize I will be in the minority on this. Many of you look at it through the lense of yoir wallets. Im no different except that there are more people dipping into my wallet than yours.

If you can't respect that then I have nothing more to say.

Not trying to be insulting, but it pisses me off seeing so many so-called Conservatives supporting Bullshit like this. All this whining about things be so unfair, therefore it's ok to steal more from fellow Citizens. These Businesses should have to do better and compete. Internet Retailers and Taxpayers shouldn't be punished. That's not what America and Capitalism are all about. No one is entitled or deserves something, just because they perceive things to be unfair. And Conservatives especially, should understand that.

I hear ya grampa, my brother has a liquor store....but you cant tax purchases made in other states properly.

And would you care to explain to liberals that we the poor customers pay that tax....they seem to think only the rich do....

Again if they want a national sales tax (while eliminating the income tax) I'm all for it.....but state taxes on internet purchases are bs...

And as for retailers, people will always want to touch/see an item before they buy, they want it that day, so people saying the retailers will die are wrong.....a lot of reasons to keep them.

I have customers come into the showrooms to pick their products. Often I spend countless of my weekend and evening hours with them helping with design and style choices.

Then some of them leave only to order identical items off the internet. It infuriates me. All that time invested and NOTHING to show for it.

Then Paul in his infinate wisdom calls me the thief.

Punishing Internet Retailers and Taxpayers is the wrong answer. Doing better by way of competition is the right answer. This Tax Bill is simply wrong. Period, end of story.

And just how do you suggest a real retailer compete with a digital one? Keeping in mind that a real business has tons of overhead that one in cyberspace doesnt. A real business must pay taxes when cyber ones don't. And many cyber businesses don't even have inventory they ship directly from the manufacturer (shill businesses if you will)

Come on wise one explain that to me.

Just think of the good that could be done by worthless politicians with that additional confiscated wealth........Eh comrades

The tax would goto local municipalities would it not?

I have no problem with that.

I am enjoying this thread immensely!

I get to see Grampa posting as a rational, intelligent person, making a rational, intelligent argument.

I also get to see Grampa attacked by wingnuts for making a rational, intelligent argument.

For at least today, Grampa gets to see what some of us see every day here at USMB.

Please....continue! :)

The internet is not a state or terroritory, therefore there is no law governing it. One cannot declare it "theirs" because it's inanimate, accessible by anyone, and held/maintained by various networks.

Therefore, an internet sales tax would be illegal. It's just like buying digital content or gift cards.

starve the beast and weaken it so it can be easily drown in the bathtub.

The only thing the right in this country would be willing to spend on is a bathtub big enough to kill it in

You're mixing your metaphors.

Sales tax is a state issue not a federal one.

It's bad enough I am forced to work as a fucking tax collector for the feds and my home state for no compensation. I should not be forced into slave labor for every other fucking state and municipal government that charges a sales tax.

You'd be the first to bitch and moan about an employee of a company not getting compensated for hours or days of their time every month.

 A Wingnut calling others Wingnuts. Truly priceless. Thanks for the laugh.

I do buy from both brick and motar and the Internet. I always check for the local source first. But too often no one in town carries what I want.

A prime example .. I needed a new hat. Not a ball cap, but a real men's hat.

Not a single store in town sold anything but ball caps, straw hats, and those mesh camping style hats. But to find a nice felt hat wasn't possible.

So I went on Amazon.com, found a nice felt hat from Bailey's for $59.00 and three days later I have a hat I can wear to work or out with the wife.

I also wanted an adapter for my computer to get TV signals. Not even Best Buy carries them in stock. They could order it and I would get it in a week, or I could to Amazon.com and get it in three days.

Guess which way I went.

Local companies want my money??? Stock what I want. Othewise I will go on-line.

What a ridiculous argument!

Oh, one other item...

I need to wear compression stockings. One store in town carries them. I bought from them for over a year. $45.00 plus tax on each pair. They only last about two months before they are no longer compressing my legs like I need. I was spending $135.00 plus tax every other month.

Two months ago I found them on-line for $17.50 a pair.

Guess what, I ordered three pair that day and the next month I ordered three more pair.

I got six months worth of stockings for what I was paying for three months worth before.

If anyone would say they would do differently, I will call them a liar to their face.

If a state wants to collect tax on internet orders being shipped in from other states they can set up a customs station at their borders and incur the cost within their state. The Governments of one state have no right to compel residents of another state to act as their tax collectors.
