How Do You Feel About Mandatory Voting?

liberals would have the government dictate what people are allowed to think and punish anyone who dares not the think as the goverment tells them. Orwell and Rand saw it coming and wrote about it, their books were fiction, but their fiction is becoming fact.

Clearly you don't have the slightest inkling of an understanding of what Liberalism is.
As such, maybe you should be required to sit the vote out.

the actions of the last 6 years by a liberal president prove that what I said is 100% accurate.

"Liberal president" :laugh2:

See what I mean?

Naah, you probably don't...

Are you claiming that obama is not a liberal? really?

They might vote to avoid the pain. Then Mickey Mouse will get a significant number of votes. You can compel voting you just cannot compel the vote cast.
The point is to get more people involved in being responsible and making intelligent decisions regarding voting.....not to dictate who they vote for.

what would be the penalty for not voting? for not registering?
Dont know yet. We could model it on the countries that do require mandatory voting now like Australia.

how would it be enforced? What about the freedom to not cast a vote because you don't like either candidate? would everyone be required to vote on everything on the ballot or could you turn in a blank ballot?

this is really a ridiculous idea.
Some type of penalty similar to the penalty for health insurance. You can exercise your right to vote for none of the above. I think however the process of doing even that will pull some people into the fold and make them curious as to what the issues are.

"penalty for health insurance" what exactly is that? Higher premiums, higher deductibles, fewer doctors, fewer treatment options? yeah we all know the penalties for obozocare, and you want something similar for voting? :cuckoo:

Australia has preferential voting. You vote for every candidate in order of preference.

You are not aware of the penalty you have to pay for not having medical insurance?

Yes, I am. The penalty is less than the premium, so many will opt to pay the penalty, then get treatment free. The whole obozocare idea sucks.

I vote in every election. If we had mandatory voting I guarantee you that my ballot would be too incomprehensible to count.

Well if you are aware of it then thats the point. If you decide not to make an effort to contribute to the governing of this country then you pay a penalty and go about your merry way.

so, a reverse poll tax, good luck with that.

Sounds like petulance instead of an honest attempt to make the best of things.
I don't do honest attempt to make the best of things. I do resentment and punishment. You would be surprised to know how many people like to do punishment. Mandatory voting might be done one time.

I'm merely asking opinions. With those opinions I am trying to see if people are actually thinking or reacting from emotion. I know I reacted from emotion the first time I saw the idea and immediately said no way. However, the idea has merit and some good points.

If people are too lazy to go to the polls once a year, I don't WANT them voting.
Youre only one person. If forced to vote then they would also be forced to actually take a look at what they are voting on. The idea has some merit.
The idea has no merit. It is my right to vote or not to vote. The Gov't has no right to force you to vote, even though socialist libtards hate it.
You must be against requiring ID to vote then?
Considering I just read a report of voter fraud out of New Mexico, I am all for voter ID.

I cannot believe the massive amount of bull turds hurled around in an even worse thread full of horse puckey.

Well this is interesting because if this were ever the case I would be breaking the laze as I am not voting in our Wisconsin election tomorrow. I don't find anything I like in either candidate enough to vote for them so I have decided to sit this one out. I'd like us to find some real candidates someday.

Interesting opinion piece on CNN discussing the merits of mandatory voting. I liken it to jury duty. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

It's a great idea but Republicans will tell you only they are smart enough to be voting. They say they know what's best for you. Better than you know. Look at how they try to tell you youre voting all wrong.

It doesn't dawn on them that we see their way doesn't help us it hurts us. And more so your people than me.
