Federal law enforcement investigations take a lot of time. It's not like your local cop on the beat. Most of them are white collar crime and involve interpreting complex financial transactions and obscure regulations.
(I worked for a Federal law enforcement program so I'm familiar with the process).

It's not a life sentence. In fact, it will be plea bargained down to a fine, probation and community service. And she'll probably have to make restitution of the pay she got when she misused her leave when she was on maternity leave and possibly when she had the triple appointment.
But she'll get something out of this.
