Is the US a democracy?

the USA is a democracy.

That is how the word in the dictionary is defined.

What does it gain your party to LIE about the definitions of words?

Show that definition and site it.

Dictionary definitions of democracy include:

1. government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.

2. a state having such a form of government: The United States and Canada are democracies.

So you just pretend the FIRST definition doesnt exsist?

It's clear enough from "the republican element of popular control" that by 'republican" Jefferson meant "democratic." The two words were sometimes used interchangeably in those days, which is not strictly accurate but in view of the fact that people were generally concerned with only two forms of government, republic and monarchy, it's understandable.

And your signature is the reason why we must stay away from a democracy

TDM: You ARE the idiot and that idiocy is on full display.

the SCOTUS decided that one already huh?

They said it would be unconstitutional

Let's go with that.

So NOW, at long last, you have the SEED of the ANSWER to your dopey & ignorant question about why we conservatives (and many liberals who grasp the concept, unlike you) say that the United States is NOT a democracy.

If a democracy means the people (by a majority) hold and wield the power, then there ought to be no basis to deny the will of the majority.

YET, you have just maintained that the Court would declare the majority-supported proposition a nullity!

How can that be?

The REASON is that we are NOT a democracy after all.

We are a Federal Constitutional Republic where the will of the majority does not trump the Constitution DESPITE the majority being in the majority!

See yet? The terms "democracy" and "republic" are NOT necessarily synonymous.

QED.

There is no longer any excuse for your ongoing abject ignorance.

a: government by the people; especially: rule of the majority b: a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections

Tell me... what is the supreme law of the land?

Do you vote on every person's innocence in a legal matter? Can the people in this country vote to remove your tongue from your mouth? Can they vote to torture you as a result of your criminal actions?
