Kerry: Putin is going to lose

Why do people keep calling this Obama's defining moment. His defining moment will what impact he leaves on this country, not on Ukraine's.

With good reason. It all came crashing down under Bush... remember? Check under W's last year in office. It's recorded for all posterity to read. Again, Judgment of W's administration last days will be left to posterity.

Bush was wrong to do the wars he did, but that does not make all the wars Obama has done, all the civilians (women and children) he has killed ok just because Bush was a bad President.

The real issue here is you hated Bush and now the world hates Obama... You felt good about not supporting Bush, as the world agreed with you. Now under Obama you feel the world turning on you... So you revert back to blaming Bush.

President Obama is loved and adored the world over to this day. Bush on the other hand is still reviled world wide. The only ones who hate Obama are you anti-American conservatives.

You are seriously blind.

Interesting fact:

Percent of population below the poverty line:
Russia: 11%
Ukraine: 24.1%
United States: 15.1%

Source: The World Factbook, CIA
Those stats are useless without defining what the poverty level is and what it means. I'm pretty sure I'd rather be poor here than in Russia. Ukraine is in trouble, which is why this mess started.

Is there a question?
Sure. Can you back up your wild ass claims? Apparently not.

Ray McGovern spent his early years as a CIA analyst of the USSR.
This is his analysis of current events in Ukraine:

"There is one huge difference between Prague in 1968 and Kiev 2014.

"The 'Prague Spring' revolution led by Dubcek enjoyed such widespread spontaneous popular support that it was difficult for Russian leaders Leonid Brezhnev and Aleksey Kosygin to argue plausibly that it was spurred by subversion from the West.

"Not so 45-plus years later.

"In early February, as violent protests raged in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev and the White House professed neutrality, U.S. State Department officials were, in the words of NYU professor emeritus of Russian studies Stephen Cohen, 'plotting a coup d’état against the elected president of Ukraine.'

"We know that thanks to neocon prima donna Victoria Nuland, now Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs, who seemed intent on giving new dimension to the 'cookie-pushing' role of U.S. diplomats.

"Recall the photo showing Nuland in a metaphor of over-reach, as she reached deep into a large plastic bag to give each anti-government demonstrator on the square a cookie before the putsch.

"More important, recall her amateurish, boorish use of an open telephone to plot regime change in Ukraine with a fellow neocon, U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt. Crass U.S. interference in Ukrainian affairs can be seen (actually, better, heard) in an intercepted conversation posted on YouTube on Feb. 4."

Kerry declared Putin will come out of this ordeal the loser. “He’s going to lose on the international stage, Russia is going to lose, the Russian people are going to lose, and he’s going to lose all of the glow that came out of the Olympics, his $60 billion extravaganza.”

Did chuckle head Kerry serve in Vietnam? I wasn't sure?.........

Just like Iran and Syria and the punk Karzai are folding to the demands of the boy king...

Exactly! Iran signs a nuclear pact with Obama and Syria is forced to destroy it's chemical weapons facilities. Thank you. Karzai is next after Putin.

You're not that bright are you. Bill Clinton forced ukraine into giving up their nuclear weapons back in 1994 and assured them in the treaty that we would defend them if they were attacked by russia. Ukraine has to be kicking itself right now for making that deal.

First useful and rational article I've seen anyone post. Thanks. Most people fail to realize the fascists that caused this coup d’état were due to US and EU meddling. The whole crises could have been averted if the US hadn't dumped $5 billion into it trying to start something.

So is the claim that the Ukrainian people want to move closer to the EU and further from Russia "CFR propaganda"?

Putin Takes Economic Gamble With Ukraine Intervention - WSJ.com
...
"We need to be prepared for them to loose the dogs on us, but we must continue our line," Nikolai Ryzhkov, a former Soviet Politburo member who is now a member of the upper house of parliament, told the chamber Saturday.

What may give Russia the biggest pause in choosing whether to pursue further military action are its energy ties with Europe. The possibility of a ground war could disrupt Ukraine's vital gas pipeline, which is used by Russian state-run energy giant OAO Gazprom OGZPY -13.27% to send fuel to Europe.

"For 30 years, Russia has tried to project an image as being a reliable source of energy to Europe," Mr. Pifer said. "If they decide to go for it in Ukraine, they probably don't care about their reputation in Europe because there is sure to a pretty stiff reaction if the gas supply gets cut off even temporarily."

Several Western countries have dropped out of planning sessions for the G-8 meeting in the southern Russian resort of Sochi, which played host to the Winter Olympics. A full-scale boycott of the event also would undermine Russia's efforts to use the newly rebuilt city to help sell the country as an attractive place to do business.

"That's a $52 billion investment that was meant to be showcased again in June, and it would basically go out the window," Ms. Gevorgyan said.

I don't think there's any doubt about how Obama and the Pentagon would react to Putin meddling in Mexico in the same way we've been destabilizing former Soviet states like Ukraine, but I am beginning to wonder how many in the Ukrainian military are loyal to their newly installed government?

McGovern seems to be saying Ukraine's new government may not be legitimate:

"Nuland was recorded as saying: 'Yats is the guy. He’s got the economic experience, the governing experience. He’s the guy you know. … Yats will need all the help he can get to stave off collapse in the ex-Soviet state. He has warned there is an urgent need for unpopular cutting of subsidies and social payments before Ukraine can improve.'

"And guess what.

"The stopgap government formed after the coup designated Nuland’s guy Yats, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, prime minister!

"What luck!

"Yats is 39 and has served as head of the central bank, foreign minister and economic minister.

"And, as designated pinch-hitter-prime-minister, he has already talked about the overriding need for 'responsible government,' one willing to commit 'political suicide,' as he put it, by taking unpopular social measures.

"U.S. meddling has been so obvious that at President Barack Obama’s hastily scheduled Friday press conference on Ukraine, Yats’s name seemed to get stuck in Obama’s throat.

"Toward the end of his scripted remarks, which he read verbatim, the President said: 'Vice President Biden just spoke with Prime Minister [pause] – the prime minister of Ukraine to assure him that in this difficult moment the United States supports his government’s efforts and stands for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and democratic future of Ukraine.'

"Obama doesn’t usually stumble like that – especially when reading a text, and is normally quite good at pronouncing foreign names. Perhaps he worried that one of the White House stenographic corps might shout out, 'You mean our man, Yats?'

"Obama departed right after reading his prepared remarks, leaving no opportunity for such an outburst."

Have you heard any reports of significant defections from the Ukrainian military?

If Putin invaded Canada fer chrissake, let alone Mexico, Obama would send a lacky out to buy a tanker full of red watercolor and lay down one of his famous red lines.

Then take a round of golf safely far away from the action in Hawaii.

Or Kenya.

Putin blows $50 billion dollars on the Olympics, and now he has lost Ukraine.

And he compounded his disaster by invading the Crimea.

Russian troops were welcomed with open arms. They know the true history of the radicals who took over Kiev.

I am not talking about Crimea.

Economic sanctions will cripple Russia.

Putin has stepped into shit.

Baloney. Putin holds most of Europe by the balls. One flick of a switch and Europe runs out of gas.

Bush didn't have the balls to send in SEAL Team 6. So what does that say about Bush? Or your ability to know what people will do for that matter?
