Keystone XL Fails to Pass Senate 59 - 41

You make it sound like we are incapable of kicking our oil addiction. You are an enabler.

Oh bite me. For crying out loud you aren't going to get off fossil fuels any time soon.

You use 18 million barrels of oil a day.

Now you have that Ivanpah solar panel farm project that you allowed to be built in the middle of the Mojave destroying acres upon acres of pristine desert land and frying birds out of the sky not being able to produce the projected energy.

Check it out. They're only at one quarter production and they are having to go back to the government for more money.

It's like a crack ho coming at me with a dirty needle. We're not going to get off fossil fuels anytime soon, so whats the point of trying?

This will create very few jobs in order to get foreign oil off to foreign countries. Unless they decide to re-route the pipeline, 150 year old Sioux treaties will be broken, pristine lands will be trampled, mostly benefiting the Koch brothers. Not to mention the farmers in Nebraska, who have been threatened with having their family land taken by eminent domain if they don't sell to Keystone

In 1969, the proposed cost to build the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System was $900 million, but the real cost ended up being 8 billion dollars.

and if a train with hundreds of tank cars full of oil derails over that aquifer, what will happen?

piplelines are the safest way to move oil, or any liquid.

your arguments are based on stupidity and partisan ignorance.

If Canada wants to send their nasty sludge to China, let them figure out another way.

You're truly ignorant of facts. We ship to China. We ship to India.

Want to know how we freaking do it? See that big big blue thing on our west coast? It's called the Pacific Ocean.

:lmao:

Big boats pull up to our docks on our west coast and take our crude across the big blue water to our customers.

And what part of, we will not benefit from this potentially harmful pipeline being built, do you not get? As Siete already pointed out, " the USA will still be buying oil from Canada at global market prices." And your jobs creation myth is a joke.

America has had enough of large Corporations using scare tactics to gain more profits.

Incorrect since they are the ones that buy and pay for these politicians regardless of party..

The irony of you solidifying my point..........

The irony of proving my comments by proving yours incorrect!

If you are correct then show where the "Left" said we can't make a refinery closer to the oil source........that's the point.

I'm sure you can make 101 posts about the Left wanting alternative energy, because to not make them would be ignorance.

But let's see one that attacks the issue at hand. You stated the Left wouldn't allow oil refineries near Canada and that's why it has to go all the way through the nation to Texas.............basic ignorance......

It's topic time. Go ahead. Show your links.

Actually, there's a very huge and extensive refinery less than an hour's drive south of Canada. It's in Anacortes Washington. It's where the Alaskan pipeline ends. The refinery is huge and more than one oil company is there. It's been expanded throughout the years. It could handle the canadian tar sands just fine. Without the dirty tar sands going through the middle of our nation and destroying the only water source for that area. It's right on Puget Sound so shipping the refined oil would be extremely easy.

You mention impacting our 'only water source'. That has been categorically debunked by scientists.

As for the Puget Sound Refinery, it has a capacity of only 120,000 barrels of crude per day, and is operating at 94% capacity (2013). It doesn't have room for the Canadian oil.

Ignore reality much? You have been repeatedly told that the 'no jobs' mantra of the left is a lie. You were given references debunking it. Yet, you cling to the lie, unwilling to discuss its veracity. It's one thing to be hard headed; it's something completely different to be close minded.

There's already an oil refinery near Canada.

The reason why they want to send that tar sand to Texas is that Texas will give them a huge tax break with very little regulations or oversight.

So after the pipeline is built, if it is built, do the jobs go away?

All but 35.

Wrong. So very wrong.

Have a nice day.

When OPEC decides to limit production and control the price of global oil to offset the flow of Keystone oil being shipped to the global market guess what ?

Keystone has no effect on the price of oil so go vote for Akbar Mohammed.

Even if Landrieu managed to get 60 votes she was likely to lose her seat. When the balance of power shifts it will more than likely clear the hurdle.

Whether the new balance of power can muster enough votes to override a veto remains to be seen. My guess is that The Keystone Pipeline will be used a quid pro quo bargaining chip by the President.

Remember when......the Senate republicans blocked passage using this and were opposed to the nuclear option.

I remain opposed to the whole thing. But I'm also deeply disturbed by the fact that legislation fails to pass with a majority vote.

Right now would be a good time to put up or shut up, dontcha think?

Q. What are the arguments in favor of the Keystone XL pipeline?

A. The pipeline would be a job creator, although most of those jobs would be temporary. The State Department environmental review estimated that Keystone would support 42,000 temporary jobs over its two-year construction period — about 3,900 of them in construction, the rest in indirect support jobs, such as food service. It estimated that it would create about 35 permanent jobs.

Let's see.

Hagen lost her seat to a Republican. But she voted in favor of the pipeline yesterday. So that's a wash.

Udall lost his seat to a Republican. He voted against the pipeline.

Republican Ernst took the open seat in Iowa, which had been occupied by Democrat Harkin. Harkin voted against the pipeline yesterday.

Republican Moore took the open seat in West Virginia which is being vacated by Democrat Rockefeller. Rockefeller voted against the pipeline yesterday.

Pryor lost his seat to a Republican, but he voted in favor of the pipeline yesterday.

Republican Daines took the open seat in Montana which is being vacated by Democrat Walsh. But Walsh voted for the pipeline yesterday.

Republican Rounds took the open seat in South Dakota which is being vacated by Democrat Johnson. Johnson voted against the pipeline yesterday.

So: Of the seven seats which flipped to the Republicans, four were occupied by Democrats who denied the pipeline yesterday. Three were occupied by Democrats who approved the pipeline.

Prediction: If every Republican votes in favor of the Keystone XL pipeline, and the remaining 11 Democrats who voted for the pipeline yesterday do so again, then the pipeline will be approved by a vote of 63 - 37.

If Landrieu's seat flips to the Republican in the run-off, this will not change the outcome of the 63 -37 vote.

seriously?

OPEC does't or can't control the price of global market oil by increasing or decreasing their production rates ...

you keep believing that ... next time some BS develops in the mid east and the price of oil goes up because speculation thinks production is at risk .. call me.

Apparently, Spare_Change was just projecting his/her lack of understanding. :D

This whining about the Keystone construction jobs only being temporary is bullshit.

EVERY construction job is temporary.

That's the nature of the work. You finish one construction job, you move on to the next one. Except the fuckwads want to prevent that next job from being there.
