At about 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, July 17, a 23-year-old male U.S. citizen arrived at the Otay Mesa port of entry driving a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle.
The CBP officer referred the man for a more intensive inspection, during which a CBP officer picked up the mans motorcycle helmet, and noticed that it seemed much heavier than expected.
CBP officers x-rayed the helmet and saw an anomaly. They found a plastic bag hidden inside the lining for the helmet, containing about four and a half pounds of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of about $92,000.
At about 5 p.m. on Sunday, a 22-year-old female Mexican citizen arrived on foot to the San Ysidro border crossing and presented her valid DSP-150, or border crossing card, to the CBP officer.
The CBP officer noticed discrepancies under the womans clothing near her chest, and referred her for a more intensive inspection.
CBP officers found six plastic packages hidden in the womans bra, containing almost a pound and a half of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of about $29,000.
In both of the unrelated incidents, CBP seized the narcotics and turned the suspected smugglers over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents; both were booked into the Metropolitan Correctional Center. CBP also seized the motorcycle and helmet.
