I think the latter guy is more likely to cut on you unnecessarily.
Where I went to undergrad in Canada - you know, where they have "socialist medicine" - during the interview process for med school, one of the first questions they asked was "Why do you want to become a doctor?" And if you didn't include "money" or "good living," then apparently it diminished your chances of getting in.
I want whoever is the best. And if he's the best because he's motivated to be the best because he'll be paid a lot of money, I don't care. I'd rather have the guy cutting me open be extremely competent than the guy who is in it for all the right reasons but not very good.
