Park Rangers Turn 'Gestapo'...

Local papers aren't good sources anymore? Have you informed the AP that repeating stories from obscure papers isn't news?

Journalists with integrity must have two reliable sources before going to press. Both publications cited one single source. One who thinks would naturally wonder if the tour operator has a conflict of interest, as I pointed out.

All Woodward had was one source, and he took down a president. I guess he really doesn't deserve the Pulitzer he won.

You can stop trying to prove how stupid you are now.

Stop showing how misinformed you are. Woodward and Bernstein had to have two sources for every allegation they presented. It's an integrel part of their story. They followed strict journalist standards and ethics. They new the importance of the story they were investigating and knew they and their story would be examined by other journalist as well as professional law enforcement officiers and agents.

If they were using Gestapo tactics they would have shot a few of them and left the bodies laying on the road or the ditch next to it. They would have at least beat the crap out of a few of them.
Park Rangers are not Gestapo and don't use Gestapo tactics. They are law enforcement officiars protecting our Parks and the people who visit them.

OMG!! Gestapo tactics might be a "little" bit hyperbole. But your depiction does not come close to accurate as a portrayal of the treatment the Yellowstone visitors experienced. They did not feel protected, further, many of them swore that they would not return to America because of it. And you are not helping America by glossing over and excusing what is happening with park rangers today.

How do you know what the YNP visitors felt, did you interview them or read a transcript of their statements? Park rangers are doing the job handed them by the radical Republicans in Congress. Pointing fingers at working men and women seems to be one more echo of the dumber members of the echo chamber.

"Gestapo tactic might be a little bit hyperbole", only a little bit? Comparing Park Rangers to murderous thugs is not just a little bit hyperbole. Those Rangers routinely place their lives in danger dealing with search and rescue operations and confronting poachers. They are the first responders in places like Yellowstone. They happen to be on the front line in regards to the government shut down and so they are getting attacked and used as the visible face of the crisis. It is not fair to attack these people for doing what they have been instructed to do as part of their job.

They are quoted in the article that your too scared to read. They were frightened, they thought they were under arrest, they did NOT feel protected. Stop defending an out of control government.

I love it when the strict constitutionalist, federal government minimalists start screaming bloody murder when they get a taste of what they wish for in the first place.

When they are involved in S&R efforts or confronting poachers nobody has a criticism. What they did to these tourists is unacceptable, both to them and to all reasonable and liberty minded Americans. You have issues and need to check your allegiances.

Look DA, I didn't use the term Gestapo tactics, the people mistreated by the park rangers did. What you feel about their treatment, they could give a shit about!

You are wrong on both counts. The people did not refer to the treatment from the Ranger as a Gestapo like tactic. Only the tour bus guide/driver said that. Nor did the tourist that was interviewed give any indication that she thought she was mistreated. You and others have decided they were mistreated by the ranger, but the actual people involved, the single tourist that was interviewed and the driver never mention any kind of misteatment. You are just making stuff up to embelish the false perception you want people to have about the government. It is dishonest and if you had real facts you would not have to rely on fraudulent statements and misrepresentations.

No it isn't. Reporters prefer multiple sources, but they run with 1 source all the time. For example, when the story about bin Laden first broke there was only one source, yet it made headlines all around the world.

The tourists sentiments support the drivers and vice versa. She (the quoted tourist) also declares that those with limited English feared they were under arrest. Also she heard others say they were so offended they wouldn't return to America. The people enforcing the shutdown are at times unreasonable and threatening as chronicled in this and other stories. Perhaps you think this tourist is lying.

This is your concern?

Ain't Big Brother cool? What would we do without him?

'Gestapo' tactics meet senior citizens at Yellowstone

Pat Vaillancourt went on a trip last week that was intended to showcase some of America’s greatest treasures.

Instead, the Salisbury resident said she and others on her tour bus witnessed an ugly spectacle that made her embarrassed, angry and heartbroken for her country.

Vaillancourt was one of thousands of people who found themselves in a national park as the federal government shutdown went into effect on Oct. 1. For many hours her tour group, which included senior citizen visitors from Japan, Australia, Canada and the United States, were locked in a Yellowstone National Park hotel under armed guard.

The tourists were treated harshly by armed park employees, she said, so much so that some of the foreign tourists with limited English skills thought they were under arrest.

When finally allowed to leave, the bus was not allowed to halt at all along the 2.5-hour trip out of the park, not even to stop at private bathrooms that were open along the route.

Rangers systematically sent visitors out of the park, though some groups that had hotel reservations — such as Vaillancourt’s — were allowed to stay for two days. Those two days started out on a sour note, she said.

The bus stopped along a road when a large herd of bison passed nearby, and seniors filed out to take photos. Almost immediately, an armed ranger came by and ordered them to get back in, saying they couldn’t “recreate.” The tour guide, who had paid a $300 fee the day before to bring the group into the park, argued that the seniors weren’t “recreating,” just taking photos.

“She responded and said, ‘Sir, you are recreating,’ and her tone became very aggressive,” Vaillancourt said...

Ranger Smiths they are not.
Not much more than a rent a cop with a inferiority complex.
No doubt they used to be the school bullies too.
