You know, some on here are saying that the SS is prepared to do their job and secure the SOTU. Granted, that may be what the supervisors are saying, but what about the actual SS personnel on the ground? They haven't been getting paid, and won't get paid until the government reopens. We have already heard stories about how the SS was messing around with prostitutes and partying too much, so how hard would it be to imagine some terrorist organization going up to some of them (who aren't getting paid, possibly living paycheck to paycheck), offer them a whole bunch of money to look the other way while they went in, and then did an attack during the SOTU?

And.................yes, I get it, there are a lot of you who will point to their loyalty and their oath that they would never go back on. Got news for you, I never thought that someone in my Navy would ever have sold secrets to the Russians. Ever heard of John Walker who was a Radioman for the Navy? He and his father sold a whole bunch of classified stuff to the Russians, and BOTH had served in the military. You never know when a traitor will finally reveal their price, and you never know who might be willing to pay it. Yes, Pelosi is right, delay the SOTU on the floor of the House until AFTER the shutdown, because it's hard to bribe people who have steady paychecks, but much easier when they are hurting for cash.

But, like it has been pointed out several times on this thread. Trump doesn't have to do it in a joint session of Congress. He can submit it in writing, give one from the Oval Office, hold one of his famous rallies in a stadium, whatever. He isn't being stopped from giving the SOTU, and it's not being held hostage. He can still give it however he wants, other than from the floor of the House.

And, Trump canceling Pelosi's trip to visit the troops was kind of a childish response. She wasn't going somewhere fancy or nice, she was traveling to a war zone on a morale visit and fact finding mission for the troops. Why does Trump hate our troops? Why can't he allow our politicians to check on them while they are in harms way?

By a vote of 39-60, the Senate rejected a proposal from Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) that included President Donald Trump's four immigration reform pillars. It proposed a path to citizenship for 1.8 million individuals brought into the U.S. without legal permission as children, $25 billion for border security, limits on chain migration or family-based migration, and eliminating the visa lottery system.[20]

After the votes, it was unclear how Congress would address DACA and other immigration reform measures.
