Veterans Plaza in Secaucus now has a piece of World Trade Center steel on permanent display | NJ.com

Note the photos from the above article match yours as the mayor dedicates it to Vets lost that fateful day.

I don't have a problem with sharing the relics with other parts of the country..or world even..so long as they are treated with the proper respect and given under the right circumstances.

They SHOULD NOT be trophies for political favors.

Honestly, I read your article and I only see the accusation, and where a list was spoken of. They threw it out there in the first few sentences and the article changed into bridge scandals, and bullying... Did I miss this list and proof?
Prior to this, for municipalities or cities to receive a relic, they had to apply and go through an arduous application process, with some pulling out because it was so extensive -- they had to prove why they should be approved to receive a piece.

What Christie's hand picked people at the Port Authority did was change that so they were given as gifts, basically a bribe, to the top Dems who he wanted to endorse him.

As of last week -- that has now changed.

Perhaps it goes without saying that the distribution of trade center steel in New Jersey over the last few years was turned into a series of political high holy days.

The lieutenant governor and an appointee of Gov. Chris Christie to the Port Authority traveled the state to personally deliver tons of it to politically important towns.

The distribution policies for the steel given out in New Jersey were changed at the Port Authority last week, officials said Tuesday, and will no longer be handled by Mr. Christie’s political appointees, but by the agency’s professional staff, which handles the steel for the 49 other states and the rest of the world.

The process was not hard.. Look at the links I posted in the thread earlier. Boy Scouts applying. Firefighters ( not a company) were applying and being approved BEfORE Christie took office. In fact in 2009 ( yet another article) I posted showed NJ advertising the steel to stir up MORE interest in it. Again, prior to Christie.

The Port Authority hopes to generate more interest in the steel with new advertisements in police, fire and municipal trade magazines. There are 1,800 to 2,000 pieces, half of them very large, which are available for carting away, at the recipient’s expense. This does not include some 200 pieces, among them the most familiar and iconic, that have been claimed by the National Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum.

Requests for the steel must also be approved by Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein of Federal District Court, who is overseeing the wrongful death lawsuits stemming from the attacks. While the steel is considered potential evidence in those cases, tests on the steel were completed in 2005. The judge has since granted all requests and has given no indication he will do otherwise for the pending ones.

The article above also talks about the Boy Scout that applied and how easy it was for him to be approved.

Additionally, what you're saying is the federal judge who had to approve each piece was in Christies pocket. Your article says the policy was "changed" but it never was. One always had to go through the judge, I'd like to see this proof tons was personally delivered by Christie. Look at the links I posted as well. It announces the allowance to each town on the port authority page.

Boy Scouts and Firefighters.

Yes.

Think about that --- (duh) now apply that to the thousand of cities not just here, but all over the world.

Yes, it was different.

And you'll see why -- as I just relayed --

They changed it because Christie was using it as a tool and bribe.

A pitiful, disgusting man.

The pieces that formed a cross on the site of the wtc, that comforted thousands and is in a 911 museum. Well liberal atheist are fighting to have it removed. Swallow where is your outrage? I guess your only outraged when it fits your political agenda. Your a sad little man.

Yes, a single Boy Scout and a single fire fighter, not asking for boys scout troops or fire fighting units, asking for respective towns.

I guess you did not read back.. I linked to the the towns which got the steel, it was engraved and set up for veterans, first responders, and in some towns for people who had lost relatives. These were not gifts to mayors, it's all publicly displayed and for vets. The port authority announced it, look at the links supplied in my past posts.

Now, tell me how Christi got around the federal judge who had to approve each piece since it's part of a crime scene?

Again, you don't know why it was changed. The article has said a lot and made a lot of implications without offering any proof, except to say something reverted to the port authority, where it always has been. And if you look the port authority website ( I linked a few posts back) announcing many of the towns receiving the steel ( which the NY times accused Christy of being behind, in fact the exact same towns) . The change may have been the result of many things.

By September 2011, the 10th anniversary of the attacks, 80 percent of the steel had been distributed, in a program managed by Nancy Johnson, a career employee of the Authority.

Around that time, Bill Baroni, the deputy executive director of the agency, who was appointed by Mr. Christie, took effective control of the steel distributed in New Jersey. Accompanying Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno to ceremonies, Mr. Baroni gave speeches about the work that was being done at the Port Authority under Governor Christie, and spoke emotionally on the losses of Sept. 11.

“In early September the lieutenant governor and I traveled around New Jersey and delivered pieces of World Trade Center steel that were part obviously of the towers that collapsed Sept. 11,” Mr. Baroni said in a television interview.

Mr. Baroni quit the Port Authority in December as the scandal over the bridge traffic jams was unfolding.

His successor, Deborah L. Gramiccioni, suspended the distribution of the steel in New Jersey soon after she took the job. Last week, she had it removed entirely from her control.

Don't forget the steel. The Port Authority has given away almost 80 percent of its stock, filling more than 1,000 of the 2,500 requests to date. Random beams — twisted into yoga-like poses — still sit on the hangar's gray floor.

The steel has become a "symbol of Americanism and unity," said Brother Ted Novak of the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement at Graymoor. A cross made of beams — thought to be one of the area's first memorials — rises from a garden at the friars' Garrison home.

"It's a memorial of endurance," he said. "That steel has become a symbol of our freedom, our coming together in times of tragedy."
...
In recent months, Johnson said, the Port Authority has filled two or three requests a day for steel. The steel is free but must be publicly displayed, and the requesting organization must pick it up.
"What reminds me it's meaningful," Johnson said, "is the people who come to pick it up. The fire departments and police departments, which are the primary beneficiaries, come in full-dress uniforms. They have a ceremony that shows how important these pieces are to them."

Recycling Trade Center Steel With Respect

Published February 23, 2002FoxNews.com

NEW YORK – The World Trade Center towers may have fallen, but the steel that once gave them strength has been salvaged from the site.
Now comes the question of what happens to it. The metal and other recyclable material recovered from the site is sacred to many, and is both emotionally and financially valuable.

The Port Authority estimates more than 200,000 tons of steel was used in the World Trade Center's construction. Of that total, more than 168,000 tons has been salvaged from Ground Zero thus far, according to the New York City Office of Emergency Management

Three companies – Metal Management Northeast of Newark, N.J., Hugo Neu Schnitzer East of Jersey City and Blandford Land Development Corporation of Brooklyn, N.Y. – have successfully bid for city contracts to recycle the steel, and continue to bid on what remains to be salvaged.

"Once they have it in their possession they in turn have the right to sell it," Matthew Monahan, City of New York Department of Design and Construction spokesman said. "It becomes their steel."

No, it doesn't.

It was in reply to this stupid dirtbag post

http://www.usmessageboard.com/8759976-post59.html

It wasn't given away - it was a bidding process -- and three companies were awarded the project.

Note again, if you didn't see the date: 2002.

At the office I work at in New Jersey, there are pictures of 2 people from the company that died that day.

They are young and look so full of promise.

For people in the financial Industry and first responders, this was something very close to home.

To see people seriously exploit the "relics" for political gain is beyond the pale.

What do you expect of a Liberal/Democrat such as Christie?

Sallow, Christie gave away "debris", not "relics".

Is this the only way Sallow can support Sallow's opinion, by misusing a word?

1.2 million tons of "debris", and Christie gave away how much of that, all of it? 50%, 10%, 1%, of course Sallow does not know, Sallow never cared what happened with 1.2 million tons of "debris" before today.

Sallow, should we of built a shrine for the 1.2 million tons of "debris" so that you could say your prayer before it?

How about a little outrage Sallow over the 150,000 tons of "relics" given to a Democrat Campaign donor who in turn RECYCLED the "relics" for profit in which he then used to support Democrats re-election campaigns?

John Neu gave a 100,000$ of the profit to Planned Parenthood, how about some outrage over "relics" recycled for a profit and then given to Planned Parenthood.

John Neu gave the profits from the "relics" to Democrat Joe Kennedy's Political Campaign
John Neu gave the profits from the "relics" to Democrat Levin's Political Campaign
John Neu gave the profits from the "relics" to Democrat Jeffries' Political Campaign
John Neu gave the profits from the "relics" to Democrat Menendez's Political Campaign
John Neu gave the profits from the "relics" to Democrat Rush Holt's Political Campaign

I can keep going but this ought to be enough for Sallow to take Sallow's foot out of his mouth.

I am a, "stupid dirtbag" for posting facts about a Democrat Campaign Donor profiting from the 9/11 "relics" (debris) and then donating his profit to the Democrats.

Paperview, you cowardly call me a "stupid dirtbag" for telling the truth, truth you will not quote directly? Gee, I wonder what that makes you? "A Cowardly Stupid/Democrat/Liberal Dirtbag Partisan". This is question, not an insult, I have to point this out because I do not think you have the intelligence to know the difference. Further I used your own vile insult so that you could not be upset with me.

Liberal/Democrats always show their true colors when truth and facts overwhelm their brains. Human Nature nearly at its ugliest, as we have seen exhibited by so many Socialist in the past.

Imagine, for posting a fact, Paperview literally responds with extreme hatred. This is what a Liberal of modern times has become, the facts make them respond with hate, so much hate they have to Label another Human Being with an Extremely Disparaging Offensive remark.

I fear the power the Liberals and Democrats have over us, I do not think they will just concede defeat, the literally go stark raving mad when the facts show their hypocrisy. The respond with vile and hate.

Liberals/Democrats will label those who choose freedom/conservativism with Extreme Disparaging Offensive Names, as they do today.

Liberals/Democrats will increase the spying on those who choose freedom/conservatism, as they do today.

Liberals/Democrats will abuse the power of government by attacking those who choose freedom/conservatism with the full power of the IRS.

Liberal/Democrats will violate our Rights protected by the Constitution.

Liberal/Democrats are a danger, they do not stop at calling us "stupid dirtbags", that is just a slip of their anger and hatred towards us.

Liberal/Democrats violate the Law and the Constitution in order to destroy freedom/conservatism.

If Liberal/Democrats already violate the law, tell lies, revise history, abuse the power of government in order to destroy freedom/conservatism, does anyone think they will not resort to using the Police and Military against citizens of the USA who choose freedom/conservatism.

Words fail me now.

Scandal-plagued New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) reportedly gave away pieces of metal salvaged from the wreckage of the World Trade Center as gifts to his political allies. According to the New York Times, the twisted chunks of metal were presented to a group of mayors who endorsed Christie ahead of his bid for re-election in 2013.

An investigation into Christie’s handling of the state’s Port Authority has revealed that the one-time 2016 hopeful was using the transportation nerve center as a “de facto political operation,” handing out political favors to supporters and pursuing vendettas long before the still-unexplained closing of George Washington Bridge in 2013.

The Port Authority was crucial to Christie as a means of winning the endorsement of Democrats and union leaders, said the Times, which Christie used to strip his Democratic gubernatorial challenger Barbara Buono of allies and political capital.
