The Rape/Abortion distraction is the old stand-by strawman for the usual suspect Socialists/Progressives. It's pretty old & tired at this point. I'm reluctantly Pro-Choice but most Socialists/Progressives are not. They actually cheerlead for it. And that's just abhorrent behavior in my opinion. Susan Sarandon and all her joyous rallies celebrating killing babies really is too over-the-top for me. That being said, the Government should stay out of this issue. The only possible exception to that would be awful late-term Abortion.

NOBODY cheerleads abortion. Pro-Choice people cheerlead the right for women to make their own decisions about their bodies. Opting to get an abortion is one of the most difficult decisions a woman will ever have to make in their lives but they certainly don't cheerlead the decision.

You're right..... the government, you, me and Santorum should stay out of this issue. We can offer our opinions as much as we want but Roe v. Wade ensures that we do stay out of the decision.

Some do cheerlead and it's pretty abhorrent. But yes, the Government should neither ban Abortion or fund it. And it's good to see you Socialist/Progressive Nanny Staters making some progress. You're gettting there. But you still have a ways to go. Now we just need you guys to push for getting Big Government out of our personal lives in many other aspects as well. But you're getting there. This comes up so often...people in our culture who view children primarily as a nuisance and a disease are particularly appalled by the very idea of women actually BEARING the results of rape.

Fact...rapists encourage their victims to get abortions.
Fact...most women who are raped are raped by men they know/have relationships with
Fact...many women who are raped and get pregnant choose to have the baby.
Fact...many women who have babies who are the result of rape see their babies as a sort of gift that helps alleviate the pain of the abuse, and they treasure them.

I don't think anyone would argue that a woman should have the right to have her baby killed after he/she is born; some people believe that there's no difference if the fetus is terminated at any time before birth. New life is new life, with all it's possibilities; the question is whether we should allow the decision to end that new life simply because birth has not taken place yet. It's not the baby's fault if the circumstances of conception, no? Some might say the only situation where the abortion should be considered is if the mother's life is in jeopardy.

Who are ‘we’? The only person authorized to make such a decision is the woman in question, not the state.
