Rush Limbaugh wins children's book author of the year award

Rush Limbaugh wins children’s book award

NEW YORK (AP) - Rush Limbaugh has won a children’s book prize designed to be chosen by kids themselves.

But that doesn’t mean all of his voters were young people.

On Wednesday night, Limbaugh received the Children’s Choice Book Award for author of the year, defeating such superstars as Veronica Roth, Rick Riordan and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” writer Jeff Kinney, the winner in 2012 and 2013. The conservative commentator won for “Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims,” a book that landed on the best-seller lists of Amazon.com and other outlets despite limited mainstream coverage.

Nominees for best author are determined by how many copies their books sell, while the winners are supposedly picked by kids, who vote online. But executive director Robin Adelson of the Children’s Book Council and Every Child a Reader, nonprofit organizations that co-founded the awards seven years ago, acknowledged Thursday that adults could easily vote and vote multiple times, a problem not uncommon for Internet competitions.

“Every one of our finalists gets fake votes every year,” Adelson told The Associated Press. “We like to think that’s the enthusiasm of adults who love children’s books.”

Adelson cited three ways that people can vote: a widget that can be embedded in such popular kids’ websites as Poptropica, a link on the awards website (CBC) that allows individuals to vote and a link on the awards site that allows teachers, librarians and others to submit bulk votes on behalf of their institution.

Adelson said she doubted that parents or other grown-ups were voting through Poptropica, but acknowledged the awards site was more likely to be manipulated. An individual voter can vote multiple times and does not need to provide a verifiable email address or proof of his or her age. Bulk voters are required to submit a verifiable email, but there is no guarantee that a given teacher or librarian is really expressing the wishes of others.

“We send emails and make phone calls. A lot of manual labor goes into verifying (bulk voters),” Adelson said. “Do we catch them all? Of course not.”

Finalists were announced in March, when Limbaugh touted his nomination on his radio show and on his website, Home - Rush Limbaugh - The Rush Limbaugh Show . Adelson said Limbaugh initially enjoyed a wide lead, but that voting tightened considerably in the final weeks and the outcome was “fair and close.”

“It’s not as if he received millions of votes and everybody else and received 10,” she said. “It was far, far closer.”

Adelson said total votes this year only increased modestly, from 1.1 million to 1.2 million, and added that voting has generally gone up each year. She emphasized the awards have no mission beyond encouraging kids to read.

“We’ve received some hate mail,” she said. “We’ve been accused of endorsing Rush Limbaugh and supporting Rush Limbaugh. We endorse and support children.”

Good job Rush.

Good job in manipulating an internet poll

But if a liberal drug addict, obese, drunk, drug smuggler had tried to make himself the hero, we'd never hear the end of it.

He can posture and jiggle all he wants but he is not worthy to call himself Rush Revere.

Really, that's just trashy and exactly what we have all come to expect from him.

Let him write all the books he wants but he is no hero.

Considering who your heroes are, that's a complement to Rush.

The contents of the book has been outlined above.

Yeah, he talks little about politics and expresses pride in his country. How disgusting can he get? Those poor kids should not be subjected to that kind of hate speech!

Isn't it interesting how liberals will always go out of their way to take a shot at American history whenever they can.

Patriotism, the last refuge..... with several hundred million dollars in the bank for mostly regurgitating right wing babble, he should be patriotic.
He's a guy that don't take a wrench to a nut etc. he's a salesman out there with a shine and a smile. Well, a shine and a scowl more like it.

LOL do you care that terrorists who have blown up the Pentagon, Capitol and Senate, committing murders and kidnappings write books and teach our children?

Nah, I did not think so. I personally can't stand the man but the hypocrisy is hilarious.

So what if Rush had a drug problem. Every other person is molly coddled when they are drug addicts, or use illegal substances. In fact we give them free syringes and places to shoot up. Some former illicit drug users are elected as president of the United States.

Thousands of people die from heroin overdoses every year, but, the only one who mattered was Philip Seymour Hoffman, found his dealer within a matter of hours. 730 fatal overdoses in NYC alone last year, but Hoffman mattered. Fuck the rest, give those New Yorkers' more needles so they can shoot up more!

Can't say one person addicted or illicit drug user is any different from another. They are all the same, some just treated a little more special.
What the bubble headed libtard jerk off piss for brains like buttlypoundrite fail to mention is, Limbaugh USED to be addicted to PRESCRIPTION oxycodone, that he got LEGALLY prescribed to him for back pain, and there are hundreds of thousands of people in the same predicament. The drug is an opiate which is not only good for pain, but also gives the user a very nice feeling. It is HIGHLY addictive, and can happen to ANYONE. It doesn't make you a bad person. In fact Rush got the help he needed and broke the addiction. He should be commended.

Like hell he got it legally. Had some poor slob with just a normal job doctor shopped as he did, that person would have been sent up.

Rush Limbaugh Arrested On Drug Charges - CBS News

"Drug use, some might say, is destroying this country. And we have laws against selling drugs, pushing drugs, using drugs, importing drugs. ... And so if people are violating the law by doing drugs, they ought to be accused and they ought to be convicted and they ought to be sent up," Limbaugh said on his short-lived television show on Oct. 5, 1995.

The butthurt is strong with this one.

Good job Rush.

Good job in manipulating an internet poll
The cheater even manipulated the sales of his book that got him nominated in the first place. He has admitted, over the air, that he bought tens of thousands of his book to give away.

I never used to listen to Rush, but a while ago I decided that anyone who pisses liberals of this much, is someone I gotta hear.

Kepp it up libs, it's hysterical. The irony of most of your posts is fascinating.

Lol, this is great stuff!

Yeah because no other author has ever done this right?

I can't wait for Rush to write a childrens book about the Civil Rights movement

I have heard he does have a special attraction to some children.....

Not sticking up for Rush here, but many of those who become addicted to pain medication see it different than what they deem as 'drugs'. If I recall correctly he became addicted after years of being prescribed the drug then sought it through his housekeeper?

For whatever reason those who become addicted do not equate it as the same. Since its' 'a legal drug". I had a co-worker who became addicted after a shoulder dislocation while playing football. He never saw what he was doing and used the same rationalization-'its legal'. He lost his friends, and nearly his job before he finally got help.

The story is, Limbaugh became addicted to OxyContin after being prescribed the drug post-back surgery.
He was so addicted he doctor shopped for the drug, and even routinely met drug pushers in a Denny's parking lot to obtain it.

One of the affects of OxyContin is the feeling of euphoria. I was prescribed it one time after elbow surgery, I took it for one single day, and quickly realized that the feeling was way too good to be real, and ceased taking it knowing I would quickly fall under it's spell.

Limbaugh used it long term, and unfortunately one of the nasty side-effect malady's is a loss of hearing because long term use destroys the microscopic hairs inside the ear that vibrate and creates hearing.
Limbaugh is now 100% deaf. The only reason he is able to function as a radio talk show host, is due to the cochlear implants he has had surgically implanted. In fact, just last week he returned after having the right ear implant "activated" and "mapped" after surgery just a few weeks back.
He had surgery on his left ear twelve years ago, at which time the cochlear implant was of the analog variety. At that time they held off on performing surgery on his right side hoping that a total cure for baldness would be available by now.
Since Limbaugh is now in his 60's he elected to go ahead with the right ear, since his doctors have been telling him it didn't look like the baldness cure was close at hand.
He is now in the middle of the tuning phase of his new digital implant, and of the ear to brain learning curve.

He's offered the books for free to schools. There reportedly have been cases of teachers reading the books aloud to students in class.

Third book in the series coming soon !

But why does Rush hide out on a radio station listened to by mostly people that agree with him? To convert others, he needs to go more public. Maybe appear on a few college campuses. Television talk shows. Engage in extemporaneous debate with the opposition with out having the ability to cut the opposition off when the debate starts to go against him. I'd like to see Rush vs. Thom Hartmann. T.V. or radio, that would be interesting.

College campuses ? Are you serious ? Do you honestly believe the leftist professors and their mush-brained students would allow him to even step foot on an American campus ?!!!!

Hartmann would never be allowed past the screeners. It would be like Dorothy pulling the curtain back.

Review: 'Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims' by Rush Limbaugh - Chicago Tribune

<Rush Revere is the author's alter ego, a substitute middle-school history teacher who dresses like Paul Revere and time-travels with his magical horse named Liberty.

Rush and Liberty, sometimes accompanied by two bright students, go back in time to the Pilgrims' Atlantic crossing on the Mayflower and the establishment of the Plymouth colony. Many of the book's details line up well with historical accounts.

Limbaugh's political viewpoint certainly shows up, but less than you might expect. He even defines "American exceptionalism" in a manner unlikely to offend Rachel Maddow: "It does not mean that we Americans are better than anyone else. It ... means that America is special because it is different from all other countries in history."

Limbaugh, like other conservatives, seizes upon the Pilgrims' story as an example of the terrible things that can happen when people pool their resources in a collectivist manner. The author seems particularly offended by the idea of a "Common House" at Plymouth. To him, the pilgrims suffered from the evils of Common-ism (my word, not Limbaugh's) and survived only by belatedly injecting individualism and free enterprise into their settlement.
>

<Limbaugh is also wrong in the same way that much of American history is wrong — in deifying the founding fathers. Limbaugh declares that they "believed all people were born to be free as individuals." The founding fathers were great in many ways, but the fact is, four of the first five presidents owned slaves. If they believed all people should be free, they certainly didn't act on it.>

Almost impossible to even discuss US history without 'opinions'. Somewhat disturbed at some of the ideas Limbaugh seems to present and more concerned about those of the article's author.

Much was said when PBS or NPR produced a cartoon series on US history---many well known celebs were involved. So 'whatever floats your boat'? I watched it a few times--never noticed anything 'upsetting'. Probably miss a lot.

No--the leaders of the nation should not have owned slaves. I can only assume that in the process of creating a new nation---there was chaos. No excuse I suppose. I would want my child to think critically about politics.

The ballad of Rush Revere

Listen my children and you shall hear
How Rush dodged the draft with a cyst on his rear

On the last days of Feb'rary, two-oh-one-two
Many an advertiser went down the loo,
When they heard that infamous show from said rear.

He said to his friends, "Forsooth and tut tut,
I smell the blood of lascivious slut!!
Hang her high me boys, 'round the clock,
For I say unto you, they are lined 'round the block!"

"One if by Sandra, and two if by Susan,
And I in the marketing share will be losin',
Ready to ride and spread the slut bible,
Walletfelt apology, spare me from libel
against this young lady to whom I'd do harm!"

Then he shrieked "Slut! Slut!" and with drug-muffled ear
He callously cultivated his Dittos' fear;
As the signal went forth from many a station,
Whence slinging like mud went his defamation.
With faltering ratings threatening a dry dock,
He bellowed and spewed, "They're lined 'round the block!"
Across the U.S. like a prison bar,
Oozed this mongering hulk, like a magnified blotch,
As he sunk even lower with "I wanna watch!!"

Thus through the week rode Limblob and did pander
To misogynist dickheads, his instrument: slander.
"So much sex, not enough pills!" said the Lush to the jerks
(For in truth he is clueless how birth control works)
"They can't afford birth control!" Blob did lament,
"Prostitutes! Sluts!" (note to Rushbo: get bent)

A voice in the darkness, a knock at the door,
Words of slur that shall echo for evermore!
In the hour of darkness and peril and need,
Recall the meltdown of radio's 'noxious weed.
The people will wake up and no doubt flip their lids
That this sleazeball's now trying to write to their kids.

Rush didn't even like to set foot on a college campus when he was a student. Even then they picked on him....they kept flunking him
