That's incorrect. They didn't fire on US forces as it was, even though it was late August and Biden broke the deal. They honored the deal made with Trump. Nope. In May the Taliban had only taken over about 1/5 of the country and was no where near Kabul. They were limited in their advance by mother nature. Waiting till Aug gave them all those months to have taken control of most of the country.
