Maryland isn't breaking apart and there is also no reason for them to be forced to take a portion of D.C. back. Or for that matter force D.C. residents into a state that is not their own. Simply put the citizens most impacted are least likely to be in favor of retrocession. It appears to mainly be 'states rights' Republican's who want to force states to change their boundaries. of course the residents of D.C. deserve statehood and be represented in Congress as equally as any other citizen should have.

It has to do with what D.C. wants. If the citizens of D.C. wanted to merge into Maryland and Maryland was fine with it then so be it. That's not the case.

If the residents of Washington desire voting rights, they should become residents of the surrounding states and be treated like Americans living abroad who can vote absentee.
