Socialism threads bandwagon

Thought I would jump on the theme of the week.

In a couple other threads on socialism there is some disagreement on which countries are currently socialist. Some say Canada is, some say it is not for example.

So, in your view what counties in the world today are socialist countries.

Let’s see if we can come up with a list most agree on.

Let’s cross examine you a bit...
Is it socialism when government forces me to pay Guadalupe to have children?
Is it socialism when government forces me to help cover the cost of that new bridge?

The first one could be socialism for sure, it is something we should not be doing. There is no benefit to me at all.

The bridge is a bit different. The bridge allows the flow of goods to happen which benefits me.

One for you...is it socialism for the government to force me to pay for subsidies to farmers, including paying them not to plant on certain land?

Socialism:
Government control or regulation of the means of production

Lol
See another that’s part of socialism, Globalism. A born fuck up

Globalism is a natural consequence of the free market and capitalism. Only government intervention can stop it.

Capital puts the capital in capitalism. Remove it and you have Socialism.

Figure out which countries have done that to get your list.

I cannot think of a one. Can you?

No.

I think N Korea may have done something along those lines before the 70s but they have since begun to allow some capital.
The reason why it doesn't exist is because the material conditions for its birth have not been met.

It won't start in an underdeveloped country. It will start in the most developed countries and spread from there.

China will be a likely place for it to take hold and spread from. But China has yet to meet the right conditions as they are still developing.

For example, a universal health care program is not "socialism."
I think that depends on how the health care program is operated. It is possible to have universal health care and it not be a government takeover of the industry.

Medicare/Social Security - those are forced ponzi schemes, but do not constitute a government takeover, as one can still get private health care and a retirement/disability program.

If by "globalism" you mean global trade, I agree.

By "globalism" most of us who hate it equate it to a "one world order" type government where U.S. and State sovereignty, with our constitutional governments are destroyed and replaced.

This shit has become hilarious...I’m fascinated at how the beggars have busted their filthy asses trying to disguise socialism...this is simple shit for third graders....when government FORCES people to pay for other people’s shit for which the payer does not benefit you have socialism.
Our retarded pyramid schemes such as social security and Medicare fall within the grey area that beggars seek to expand.

So, according to you it is ok for the government to FORCE people to pay for things as long as they all benefit?

Is that correct?

I’ll bite.
Something like that...although I hate the word “force”. I am inclined to support tax revenues being spent for community benefit as I believe such is fundamental for a civilized, first world society. I believe that how tax revenues are spent / appropriated should ALWAYS be voted on by ONLY those contributing.
For the record, I’m a firm proponent of a use tax, a consumption tax if you will.

Thank you for the response.

I find that I pretty much agree what all that you said, and I would be fine with a consumption tax or a flat tax. The thing I oppose the most about taxes is them being used for social engineering. I do not think there should be such a thing as deductions or credits.

“Social engineering” sounds awfully sneaky and strategic. Personally, I believe that tax code which encourages accomplishment and success is vital to a capitalist society...think about the founding of the FHA; I don’t know anything else that has ever induced economic growth and vast prosperity like the FHA did.....Conversely, I believe no nation should ever incentivize it’s lowest grade to procreate through tax code.....a serious, SERIOUS flaw in our system.

You're aware that in the "socialist" healthcare system of Canada...you can buy private health insurance...right?

Capitalism does not care about state sovereignty or borders or nationalism.

That is not necessarily true. Socialism is not the natural result of no capitalism.
A Socialist system of production is not run on capital.

Capital is that which oppresses. That is why underdeveloped countries that claim to be communist become dictatorships. All the capital is placed in the hands of the State.

I believe that is because Canada's health care system only covers basic services.

Canadian Health Care: Private Health Insurance

"While the health care system in Canada covers basic services, including primary care physicians and hospitals, there are many services that are not covered. These include things like dental services, optometrists, and prescription medications."

But:
Canadian Health Care: Private Clinics

"Under federal law, private clinics are not legally allowed to provide services covered by the Canada Health Act. Regardless of this legal issue, many do offer such services."

THAT is a government takeover. That is socialism, even if it does not take over the entire industry.

By social engineering I mean things like, the government decides that home ownership is a good thing so they alter the tax code to encourage home ownership. Those that do not follow the government’s view is punished for not following the path set out by the government by paying a higher tax rate in the end than they person paying for a house.

I do not think the government should be doing things like that. I include in that tax breaks for kids, college and more.

Welllllllll......

Private Clinics
In addition to public health care providers such as primary care doctors and hospitals, many private clinics offering specialized services also operate in Canada.

Under federal law, private clinics are not legally allowed to provide services covered by the Canada Health Act. Regardless of this legal issue, many do offer such services.

The advantage of private clinics is that they typically offer services with reduced wait times compared to the public health care system. For example, obtaining an MRI scan in a hospital could require a waiting period of months, whereas it could be obtained much faster in a private clinic.

Private clinics are a subject of controversy, as some feel that their existence unbalances the health care system and favors treatments to those with higher incomes.

Costs in private clinics are usually covered by private insurance policies, which will typically pay around 80% of the costs.
Canadian Health Care: Private Clinics

Because of the long wait times, the private clinics sprung up.
You liberals think that socialized healthcare is like the second coming....well it's not....even in Canada.
