Superbug expert calls lack of coronavirus tests a 'national scandal'

McCarthy, who practices at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, expects the number of cases in the U.S. to increase quickly in the next couple of weeks, but he said hospitals are "hamstrung" because they don't have access to the diagnostic test kits they need. In contrast, he said, other countries are making it look easy.

"They are testing 10,000 a day in some countries, and we can't get this off the ground," McCarthy said. Tim O'Donnell

"It's all under control."

Doctors are bracing for a rapid rise in U.S. coronavirus cases this week as state and local public health labs ramp up testing following weeks of delays due to a flawed test by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Coronavirus, CDC testing: Flawed kits slowed results, US cases to rise

I'd be careful in Seattle. My friend has it. Took a cruise in asia. Came back about a month ago to Seattle before anyone hardly knew about the virus and went on with his daily life, work, etc. No symptoms.......until two days ago. Got tested and has it. Asymptomatic for almost a month.
It seems nearly impossible for a virus to hide that long, doesn't it? I don't know much about bugs, but jeeez...no wonder it is so highly contagious. Either that or your friend caught it in the community somewhere after getting home--they are saying they expect there are MANY people infected on the West coast who don't know it.

P.S. Hope your friend is okay

US currently has 10% of face masks needed for a ‘full-blown’ coronavirus pandemic, HHS official says

The U.S. has just 10% of the required respirator masks that would be needed for medical professionals if the COVID-19 outbreak erupts into a “full-blown” pandemic in America.

Health and Human Services official Dr. Robert Kadlec estimates the country would need roughly 3.5 billion of medical-grade N95 masks, which filter out about 95% of all liquid or airborne particles.

“We have about 35 million,” Kadlec, assistant secretary for preparedness and response of HHS, said before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions on Tuesday. “Ten percent, and we’re actively working on that.”

The comment came minutes after World Health Organization officials called on medical supply manufacturers to “urgently increase production” to meet the global demand that is needed to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak rapidly spreading across the world.

What would Trumpleton's look like if Hillary had allowed this woeful lack of self protection supplies to occur.

Seriously people- STOP BUYING MASKS!

They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!

Washing your hands, staying home when sick and other "everyday preventive actions" are the best protections, Adams said. He urged people to get a flu shot, as fewer flu patients means more resources to fight the coronavirus.

How are defective test kits Trump’s fault?
Budget and personnel cuts.
but he didn't do that, so factually you're wrong. go fking figure. It's now been pointed out on every news station that error. and yet here you are pushing the fake news story. BTW, the kits came from China. China had them. you know why China had them? they had the virus. derp
But he did do that. It's not a fake news story.
