Tariffs DO raise prices: That is the point!

If you want Americans to reduce their purchases of Chinese products, tariffs are the best way to do it. There will be a slight increase in the retail prices of these products (tariffs are applied at the wholesale level), but consumers can mitigate this effect by switching to other products.

So why all the hoopla about "punishing" American consumers? Does anybody believe that we will be better off by preserving the status quo?

Free trade is rational, protective tariffs are irrational. Ask anyone but a trumpanzee and they agree free trade creates partners, protective tariffs create enemies.
then why has china used tariffs if they wanted free trade? same with the TPP and NAFTA?

Free trade means no customs fees. correct?

FAIR trade is rational....we've been getting our lunch eaten for 30 years.....or is that what you want, America-hater? All Trump is asking for is reciprocity....big word....it means, I give you the same deal you give me...capiche? What the world is realizing is this is now far past Trump...he began the movement and now the American people will accept nothing less than fairness. He's also destroyed socialism....that you'll never accept while everybody else laughs at you.

Q. Why has china used tariffs if they wanted free trade?

A. 'Cause of The Fart of the Deal, aka, trump's style of negotiations - Brinkmanship with Chaos.

All of my appliances are made in Japan, Germany and China.
I take quality into account.
Make phones and computer hardware in the US and I will buy them.
BTW, almost all computer parts made in China get very inconsistent reviews...try looking on Amazon.

:21::21::21::21:

Yeah, Nvidia graphic cards are just the worst, nobody likes them!

:21::21::21::21::21:

you are so silly sometimes!
I’m in the market for a computer, not a video card.
I was hoping systems would improve as the years go by.

the video card is a computer part...you said that "all computer parts" made in China get inconsistent reviews...you are wrong
You are correct; the systems get mediocre reviews.
One of the problems is the motherboards are so complicated no company gets them right most of the time.
I will not spend less than 5K on a system because I want it to last a decade.

No, Nvidia graphic cards do not get mediocre reviews, they are the industry standard.

A decade? are you insane? In a decade it will be like driving a Model T while everyone else is in Mustangs.

I am constantly upgrading mine, one piece as a time as they become reasonably priced for the performance.
I bought 2 $5,000.00 Gateways in 2008; still running like tops.

Thanks for sharing Trump's demagoguery. Free trade is fair trade, when properly negotiated.

Then why did Donald Trump delay tariffs until after the holidays? There is no point in delaying something that is good.

They cannot mitigate the effect because the American goods still cost more even with the tariffs on other goods.
So, how many people in this thread use a cellphone made in America? or a TV made in America? How about the computer you are on, where is it made?
Or the Chinese could just manipulate their currency - lowering its value vs the dollar despite their G-20 obligations - which would make their exports cheaper (and their imports more expensive) but everyone knows they would never stoop to such a thing.

BTW, wouldn't higher prices impact US inflation?

I feel quite sure that my IQ exceeds yours by a significant margin, so the fucking moron in this discussion is clearly you.

The fact you just made this post proves your IQ is about that of a head of cabbage. Nobody with an actual high IQ has ever felt the need to tell anyone!

If you are over 2016 why do you repeat the dem talking point lies about Trump every day on this silly message board?

Such a thing has never happened. Feel free to try and give on example
You need to start acting like a marine… Marine

Shut the hell up you slimy weekend warrior.

Not if big impact items like fuel and food is going lower at the same time.

Inflation isn't a problem because Trump delays the tariffs to avoid inflation.

In an interview on Fox News, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro sidestepped a question about whether a deal would be reached before the 2020 election.

"I think what's going to happen is we're talking with them," Navarro said. "We've got significant structural issues and I think speculating about that really doesn't help the negotiations along."

He also said Trump decided to delay some tariffs "so that we have an inflation-free Christmas and give the Federal Reserve more room to run in terms of lowering rates."

Ours...we invented it, designed it, then Apple fucked the country that made it work by moving their assembly to China...fuck them, fuck you. I'd ban the fucking things...they kill people...phones are for talking not typing.

TFW a conservative applauds taxing people to stop them from doing something

Conservatives it seems now...are for higher taxes.
