The First Republican Debate/ results

You need one third of Congress to sustain your veto. Trump cannot count on Republicans in Congress. That is what happens when you burn your bridges

Oh how I wish they'd had the Internet in 1979!

Then I could link you to the endless stories in WSJ, WP and NYT by people like George Will, who made the exact same claims of one, Ronald W. Reagan.

Let me 'splain to your stupid little ass how politics work... The man who is sitting in that chair in the Oval Office is the Boss. You may grumble and complain, at the end of the day you're going to do what the boss tells you to do. Oh I realize Trump can't fire them if they don't... and that is even more the reason they will do as he tells them. Every Senator and Representative wants to be relevant. If Trump manages to win the GOP nomination, you're going to see a remarkable change in attitudes. There will be no shortage of Republicans eagerly wanting to tap into Trump's popularity among the people and they will have a "come to Jesus" moment when they realize they have to support him.

They may not like it at first, Trump might have to make a few examples, but pretty much all these people on the Republican side who are currently bashing Trump will have had a change of heart.... funny how popular mandates can cause that to happen.
I recall the vitriol against Obama from Hillary supporters in 2007/8. Come election day they were lock-jawed onto Obama's ankles!!!

Greg

It wasn't his ankles they were lock-jawed on. ;)

Botton line, Trump cannot win the General. He cannot win women or Latino votes. I expect the GOP understands that.

Reagan had tact. Trump has the tongue from Hell.

"I PAID for this mike!"
~Ronald Reagan to establishment GOP moderators trying to shut him up!

Ronald Reagan ALSO had a tongue from hell when he needed it. AND.... Reagan didn't have to deal with this ever-reverberating noise machine which has become our influential 24/7 news cycle of political sensationalism and knee-jerk reactionism.
Reagan had Irish charm

Trump does not know the meaning of the word

I think Trump has just as much "charm" but it's a different kind. He wouldn't be leading in all the polls if he had NO appeal.... even a moron should realize that.

Now... From my perspective, Trump's "charm" might be comparable to that of... Teddy Roosevelt... Harry Truman... LBJ to an extent... Winston Churchill, if you need a worldly example. The "appeal" of Trump is coming from Americans who are totally pissed off and aren't going to take this shit anymore. They're fed up with it... they are DONE with BOTH parties and this slide to secular liberal socialist Marxism that we've been on for a decade. They are sick and tired of downgraded credit ratings, runaway debt, stagnant economy and no real job creation or economic prosperity happening. They want the border secured. They want trade deals that don't screw the American workers or people. They are MAD AS HELL... and they LIKE having someone with the fucking balls to stand up there and tell the truth.

I liked Rubio, Kasich, and Carson. Rubio did very well in my opinion. Kasich did a fairly good job. Ben Carson seems to be a very sharp individual but soft spoken.

One thing about Kasich.............he could help take states like Ohio..........and States needed to win the election.
Ben Carson would swing the black vote and I agreed with his points.

I'm undecided and there is a lot of time to vet them out. I didn't see the first debate............and will have to catch up on that.

Walker was lame.
Ran Paul..............no dice...........he's not a contender.
Christie....................nope............

There really was no one candidate that just said...............that's the real deal..............

Holy fucking moly!!

Hillary can't get 25 people to watch her!

I agree.............I don't like the PC junk.................He's a wild card...............and I don't trust him yet.................I'll never forget Ross Perot.............

I want someone to CHALLENGE THE ESTABLISHMENT................and so far he's the one doing so...........yet he is his OWN WORST ENEMY.

Holy fucking moly!!

Hillary can't get 25 people to watch her!
Trump did that...............Everyone wanting to see what wild shit goes on with Trump...............It's reality T.V. waiting to see if he takes someone apart or implodes...........................He is good for this election on this aspect alone.

Reagan had to deal with Tip O'Neil He didn't get anything done because he was "The Boss"
Unlike Trump, Reagan was not an asshole and knew how to work with the other side

Yes, Reagan had to deal with the Democrat leader in the Senate. Trump will have to deal with Democrats too. Jeb Bush would have to deal with Democrats. Ted Cruz would have to deal with Democrats. Are you getting my point? I don't think we can pick a Republican who won't have to deal with Democrats.

The people I am talking about are the REPUBLICANS you claim he can't count on... Which Republicans was Reagan unable to count on? Maverick McCain, maybe? ...Yet all through the GOP primaries, republican talking heads kept telling us that Reagan would be this divisive force that no one would ever work with, even from his own party.... remarkably, almost verbatim what you are claiming about Trump.
We are not talking Jeb Bush or Ted Cruz

Trump would have to be able to work out deals with Congressmen. That is what politics is all about
Telling a congressman....I'm rich and you're not will not get him very far
Insider knowledge of how things work in office would get him far................He knows who buys and sells politicians for their own personal gain.....................Knowledge is power and many in Congress and the Senate are whores................Trump has bought these whores before................so he may have ammo enough against them to make him a threat.................

Beyond that...................I don't think he performed well last night...............but he was attacked from the get go............I still consider him a possible Ross Perot................and that dog doesn't hunt.
In spite of his bragging....Trump is small potatoes

Soros and the Koch Brothers buy politicians. Trump is a clown

Trumps "charm" is more along the line of P T Barnum than Winston Churchill

Obama is a nitwit and got elected..........................25 million people watched to see Trump whether or not you like that.
And you are biased................Your side doesn't debate for months.....................let's see if that debate is softball or hard ball..

Botton line, Trump cannot win the General. He cannot win women or Latino votes. I expect the GOP understands that.

And I think you are crazy if you believe that.

He may not win the women or latino vote... but lots of latinos and women will vote for him. Blacks LOVE Trump. He has a very real cross-section of appeal to people outside the typical GOP demographic.... that's important. He's from New York... lots of influential friends there and elsewhere. His GOP nomination would instantly make New York a battleground state. (A state which has elected how many Republican governors and mayors?) A state still seething over the betrayal of their Senator who vowed to represent them for her second term then bailed to run for president and ultimately part of the cabinet? Yeah.... tell yourself that Hillary has NY sewed up!

Trump is smart... He will add a VP who will bring a huge swing state his way. Perhaps Carly Fiorina or Marco Rubio... he MIGHT even consider Jeb, in a symbolic gesture of 'unification' ala; 80 Reagan/Bush.

Trump is leading in the polls for the GOP. He is moving up fast on Hillary in the general pairings... still behind, but the GOP is divided right now between 17 candidates.... so, you can't really look at those numbers NOW and interpret anything at all. It's all pointless until the GOP settles the battle. We already know that Hillary will win the DNC nomination, unless something happens to her before.

Trump would have to be able to work out deals with Congressmen.

Which he has been doing for 50 years at the local, state AND federal level. His ability to negotiate deals is his strong point... you will never bring him down attacking what he is extremely good at.

An appropriate analogy would be if this were 2008 and I were arguing that Obama would have to stand in front of people and give speeches. Think about how dumb that complaint would sound and you're getting an idea of how dumb you're sounding to me. :)

Without a teleprompter?? lol

I think basically everything he has said so far is on point and honest. I don't agree with him 100% on some things but he is not afraid to say what he thinks and give his opinions and for the most part, he is spot on. He's nailing the establishment like he was Britney Spears first boyfriend.

[*cue McDonald's commercial music] ...I'm lovin' it!

Soros and the Koch Brothers buy politicians. Trump is a clown

Uhm.. last week the Koch bros. pulled all funding and cooperation with Trump. Disassociated!

Meanwhile, you will find that Soros as well as those evil Wall Street investment brokers and big wigs are ALL supporting Hillary... Trump would be too, if he weren't running for president.

Of course he'd pay up; he's a businessman.

Who won the 1st clown debate?

Mrs. Clinton of course. Although the Ohio Gov. was way too reasonable to be on stage with most of the clowns.
I would hesitate to call Dr. Ben Carson a clown.
As a surgeon......no
As a politician.....yes
I dunno... the guy talked a good game during last night's sortie.
Carson is out of his league.
He has no knowledge of how Washington works, how to deal with Congress, the economy, foreign policy or national issues

He has never held political office at any level

.
He's not a Professional Politician? I like the sound of that.
