The Perception of Cheating is the Real Danger to Democracy

I have no worry at all since we are not a democracy no matter how much hacks from both sides tell us we are.

But we are supposed to be a representative, democratic, republic.
The "republic" part is supposed to create a codifies rule of law to protect individuals from abuse by majorities.
The "representative" part is supposed to prevent mob rule by filtering only the best as the final decision makers.
But we still are supposed to select our representatives by majority rule with the "democracy" part.

A new national telephone and online survey by Rasmussen Reports and The National Pulse finds that 52% of Likely U.S. voters believe it is at least somewhat likely that cheating affected the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, including 36% who think it is Very Likely. Forty-three percent (43%) don’t believe it’s likely cheating affected the 2020 outcome, including 30% who say it’s Not At All Likely. These findings are similar to previous surveys in May and March. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Fifty percent (50%) of voters think it is at least somewhat likely there will be widespread cheating that will affect the outcome of this fall’s congressional elections, including 24% who say it’s Very Likely. Forty-one percent (41%) don’t believe cheating is likely to affect the November midterms, including 22% who say it’s Not At All Likely.

Voters remain skeptical of the integrity of vote-by-mail. Fifty-eight percent (58%) think it’s at least somewhat likely that wider use of mail-in voting will lead to more cheating in elections, including 39% who say it’s Very Likely. Thirty-six percent (36%) don’t believe mail-in voting is likely to lead to more cheating, including 16% who say it’s Not At All Likely. In October 2021, 65% said wider use of mail-in voting would lead to more cheating in elections.

It is relatively easy, compared to landing a man on the moon, or getting a vaccine developed and approved in a matter of months, or winning a war against both Germany and Japan's military machines, to ensure election security. The steps demanded by people concerned about cheating are pretty simple: Photo ID to register, photo ID to vote, and no absentee ballots except in limited and tightly controlled situations like military service, would easily address the concerns of voters who now wonder whether their vote even matters any more.

If the Democrat care so much about Democracy, they would demand the same thing. Especially an honest Dem who honestly believes that there is no significant cheating by Dems. If a Dem believes that, they should be willing to tighten up election security as you suggest so that confidence in Democracy is restored.

Suppose there is no widespread cheating. There is no way to prove that, since cheating is by nature furtive, and little to no resources are spent in catching it. But just suppose that the majority of Americans are wrong, and that in the reality that they don't know, there is very little cheating and what little there is on both sides cancel each other out.

It is not impossible that this is the reality. Perceptions can be wrong.

But . . . there is at this moment in time widespread perception of cheating and that is just as dangerous to Democracy, if not more so.

It's not just Trump cultists who are concerned about cheating:

Asked which is more important in elections, 59% say making sure there is no cheating is more important, while 38% say making it easier for everybody to vote is more important. Those findings are almost unchanged from May.

Seventy-six percent (76%) of Republicans, 37% of Democrats and 64% of voters not affiliated with either major party think it’s more important to make sure there is no cheating in elections. Sixty percent (60%) of Democrats, 20% of Republicans and 33% of unaffiliated voters say making it easier for everybody to vote is more important.

If large chunks of the country lose interest in democracy as a way to affect change because they believe in the old meme, "if voting mattered, they wouldn't let us do it," they are not just going to passively accept their fate of being ruled by corrupt elites. They are going to look for ways outside of democracy to free themselves. That is the danger.

It is easy enough to vote. The above numbers show that more than half the Republicans and Democrats combined think it is more important to make sure there is no cheating than to make voting easier. With that kind of support for eliminating cheating, it should be an easy decision to take on a relatively easy mission.
Citizens (republicans) are concerned about elections because they are being inidared by lies and conspiracies by politicians and the media they follow. Very few actually take the time to learn election laws and processes and operations during the election.

Right wing politicians and media are playing the game. I think many know better but they use fear and these conspiracies to rally up support from their supporters for fund raising and their legislative agenda

You don't like voting machines? You won't sell getting rid of voting machines to Republicans or Democrats, in a country of 335 Million people. Is the weather cooling in St. Petersburg? Say hello to Vlad for us.

The only possible purpose of voting machines is to facilitate rapid and transparent alteration of results.
The number of people in a nation is irrelevant to the voting process, as more people simply means you have the wealth to set up more polling stations and hire more ballot counters.
It is entirely scalable and is done in parallel, not serial.

The Democrat party is not the party of the working class, and hasn't been for at least 20 years. They are now anti-white authoritarians who seek more control with every measure they take.

You have a point in that democrats no longer support unions, public heath care, anti-war, or anything democrats used to support. Instead they support evil profit making things like the War on Drugs, the sanctions on Russian oil, etc.

For one Trump became a billionaire himself; his father never had a billion dollars to pass to his several heirs. Next is the fact Trump had five bankruptcies (none personally) but owned or operated over 500 businesses in his career. That's a 1% failure rate that any CEO would be proud to have on their record.
Lol his dad didn’t need to be a billionaire the 10s of millions of dollars Trump got combined with logical investments doesn’t make it difficult to become a billionaire. Yes good for him for not blowing it all on strip clubs

We didn't fail, we just didn't do as good as we thought. Taking the gavel way from Piglosi is a major win. It will shift the phony 1/6 investigation into a real investigation not focused on Trump. It will be focused on who did what and the release of those thousand hours of video the commies have been hiding from the people and Congress. It will give us the ability to put Piglosi on the stand, even if she retires and tries to hide.

Next is looking into the dealings of the Biden crime family.
The odds of republicans getting the House back were already in their favor by a lot based on where and who was up for re-election. Now the best they’ll get is a razor thin majority. No matter how you slice it, republicans had a poor showing.

So, you are saying that a normal nuclear family is the weird and a family with several entities with a man a woman, animals and children all in a bed having sexual relations is what we should all aspire to. For that is where we are heading.

Not sure what you are saying, but the "nuclear family" is awful and artificial.
The natural way humans have lived for millions of years is multi generational and tribal.
Education used to be the responsibility of the elder generation.
That is the only reason why our lifespan started evolve to increase.
Without refrigeration, food had to be consumed quickly, so had to be shared.
It is the "nuclear family" that has destroyed social cohesiveness.

How are republicans any different or better than democrats?
Both are supporting immoral, illegal, and expensive waste, like foreign wars, economic sanctions, the War on Drugs, massive incarceration, mandatory sentences, asset forfeiture, spending deficits, massive waste, etc.

FOX goes out to ask college men and women questions about simple things. They cannot answer very well. And many of these college students are hired as equity. Equity enforced by government legislation. It will be mercy if the SLS unmanned space launch does not do well in a few days. Setting the white elephant back some more will not make the equity extreme feminist space agency does not look bad for all of the planned projects going along with it.

Until the changeover by the then Prog takeover of the United States, it worked,

Late night comedy has been doing that bit for ever. Ask randoms on the street questions and edit the dumb and funny answers to make a comedy segment. Don’t be a dupe and think that is a real life reflection of anything. It’s showbiz

They use machines and the counting process is slower than in the last century. Makes no sense at all.

I’m actually fighting against an equity argument right now that a school in my community is trying to use to drop cut a sports program. Like with most agenda items there are noble causes and elements of abuse

Yup. That's the winning strategy. Don't change anything. Keep whinning about Dems stealing elections blah blah blah. 👌

Considering the Dems performance in the last two years it was a poor showing.

The overwhelming majority of Trump-backed Republicans won their races, so the never Trumpers didn't pull their weght.

Bull. I think you watch too many television movies. Turning several million intro billions is not as easy as it is on television. It's like you taking 10K and turning it into 40K. it can be done, but not without a lot of risk and work.

I've delivered to very successful companies in my career. I've seen owners retire or otherwise die leaving the business to their children. In many cases the kids ran the business into the ground. They had the money, the education, but not the experience and business acumen.

There are books written about lottery winners who's winnings was the worst thing that ever happened in their lives. It turned friends into enemies, broke apart families, left people in ruins. Handling a lot of money is a full-time job within itself.

It's really amazing how suddenly we don't hear anything more about racist cops and kneeling during the National Anthem. Gone. Simply amazing.

Yup. That's the winning strategy. Don't change anything. Keep whinning about Dems stealing elections blah blah blah. 👌
It really doesn’t get much more juvenile. Somebody loses a game and blames the winner for cheating. How did they cheat? Silence. Grow up

Meanwhile back in reality...

The GOP is increasing their numbers in the House.

If the democrats are cheating...you'd think they'd get better results because apparently the democrats are able to do it everywhere, every time and, at the same time...do it without any proof whatsoever.

It makes you wonder how the GOP wins any election.
The reality is massive fraud. It is obvious, and is now more obvious. The voters do not want this country destroyed but the phony results sure make it look that way.
