It is ridiculous to compare the coronavirus to the Spanish flu. It wasn't until 1933 that scientists figured out it was caused by a virus, an unknown entity in 1918. Within two weeks of the outbreak of the coronavirus, scientists had identified it and sequenced its genome. We now have a hundred years of experience in dealing with outbreaks and the advances in medical treatment would have been unimaginable in 1918.

Well its not so much that people will die. But airlines are now cancelling domestic flights in addition to intl. Cruises are not selling. The fed's going to cut again just to try and stave off an wall street meltdown.

If businesses have to quarantine, we'll see a brief but probably SHARP recession.

One large school district is closing till further notice, at least 2 week leaving many thousands of parents with no childcare. Restaurants in the international district once busling with business sit near empty. Microsoft, Amazon, and many other business are telling their people to work from home. The travel agency a few blocks from my home has a sign on the door closed due to the virus. Many standing room only buses this morning had plenty of seats. The typical hour to hour half drive during rush hour from Everett to downtown Seattle was 40 mins this morning. Over 15 major events in the area scheduled for March have been cancelled. With the Seattle Mariners home opener only weeks away many people wonder whether it will happen. The governor announcement that some sporting events may need to cancelled. And so it goes. If this happens all over the country, there will be a recession.
