Vermont plans launch of ‘universal’ health care system: It’s a ‘right and not a privi

Well, if they do that what in the hell is going to happen to Obamacare? People in Vermont need to support Obamacare--otherwise it collapses. If we have states moving into their own state funded programs, Obamacare collapses. BTW Medicare is a federal program not state run.

I thought that was the Master Plan. Obamacare fails and everyone says 'Hey! Look what Vermont has going. Let's use that instead.'

Poof...mission accomplished

Don't you find it kind of odd that a blue state is doing this? Frankly the Republican governors in this country are talking about the same. Stating that states can handle the health care needs of their own citizens better than some ONE SIZE FITS All mandate that comes from Washington D.C.

Just the state run Obamacare web-sites working just fine while the Federal web-site isn't-- I have to definitely agree. But at the same time it collapses Obamacare.
There are 19 states that built their own market place exchanges, all but 4 are blue states. They were all built using federal grants and they all work. Most of Red states opted not to have their own exchanges, expand Medicaid, or modify state insurance laws. A lot of people in those are going be having health insurance problems.

Vermont plans launch of ‘universal’ health care system: It’s a ‘right and not a privilege’

MONTPELIER, Vt. — As states open insurance marketplaces amid uncertainty about whether they’re a solution for health care, Vermont is eying a bigger goal, one that more fully embraces a government-funded model.

The state has a planned 2017 launch of the nation’s first universal health care system, a sort of modified Medicare-for-all that has long been a dream for many liberals.

The plan is especially ambitious in the current atmosphere surrounding health care in the United States. Republicans in Congress balk at the federal health overhaul years after it was signed into law. States are still negotiating their terms for implementing it. And some major employers have begun to drastically limit their offerings of employee health insurance, raising questions about the future of the industry altogether

Canada began their Medicare with one province at a time, and they love it.

They love it so much they rushed down here to get medical procedures done. All this kind of bullshit liberal healthcare gets you is the only people able to get good care will be those who can afford it..... The exact opposite of what they said they were doing.

Canada has a small population compared to the US and doesn't have the broad range of specialists.
Israel has the same issue and thus people come to the US for care.

Gee wonder why they dont have the specialist???? Could it be that they want to get paid to do their job?

This is a state and they have an absolute right to do what ever they think will work for the state.

They just don't have a right to tell New Mexico what to do with the people in their state.

What happens when every mooch moves there? Did they factor that into the coat?

The rw moochers are the ones getting the free care from EMTALA.

Educate yourself and stop lying.

You are pathetic. Fact is right now with Obama-care you can see everything WE RIGHT WINGERS have told you has come to pass....Maybe you need to educate yourself your stupid tool.

It looks like there are about 10 times the number of people leaving the US to get treatment than coming here for treatment. There is little reason for people from Canada to come to the US for treatment and few do. For most Canadians the cost of getting treatment in the US can be very high. In fact, this is the reason why so many people leave the US to get treatment. A knee replacement in the US will run $30,000 to $45,000. In Costa Rica the cost runs $6,000 to $12,000 and the quality of care is just as good as in the US if not better.

A McKinsey and Co. report from 2008 found that between 60,000 to 85,000 medical tourists were traveling to the United States for the purpose of receiving in-patient medical care. The same McKinsey study estimated that 750,000 American medical tourists traveled from the United States to other countries in 2007 (up from 500,000 in 2006).

Although I support the ACA, I do think there are several serious problems. The government offered grants to states to build their own exchanges. Only 19 states elected to do so because the federal government grants would not cover the cost. Many of the states, mostly red states, took the position that this is a federal program so let the feds do it. This turned out to be a mistake both for the federal government and the states. The federal exchange was not designed to handle the traffic, nor the difference between the states. Also, the states needed to control these exchanges to make sure they melded into state programs such as Medicaid and state insurance laws. The state exchanges are working well while the federal exchange is floundering.

A second problem is the federal exchange is doing too much. Let the insurance companies handle the registration. They already have the process in place. All they need is the module to validate income for determining premiums. Then the exchanges becomes a place to shop for insurance and compare plans. Once the shopper finds the desired plan, they are transferred to the insurance company registration process. Obama recently suggested something similar to this.

These are not problems in the law but rather implementation. There should have been more state and insurance company involvement in the registration process.

Canadians don't wait for a bypass or any emergency.
