What Do Centrists Stand For?

We're always hearing the Democrats are too far left and Republicans are too far right. We're told we need a third party that is centrist. To me centrists are people who don't believe in anything except compromise. So here's your chance to change my mind. What do centrists really stand for?
Far right wants you to act as they want you to act. Far left wants ya to have blue hair. The centrist wants you to mind your damn business and stay out of mine.

I was a libertarian for almost 30 years. Libertarians are far left, but for some reason have flipped the terms left and right around. The right always meant being opposed to Enlightenment ideas.

There is nothing far left about wanting smaller government and less government intrusion in our lives

In honesty - today all of these labels are worthless.
Most Democrats from 1990 today would be considered a radical right winger.
Because that is how far left the party has allowed itself to get.
You take a classic liberal like Bill Maher - to a whole lot of people on the left, he is now a conservative.
Which is nuts. The man is miles and miles from being a conservative, but because he hasn't joined into the mass insanity of the left - oh - he must be far right.

and to you all, everyone is too far left. This is just one of many traits the two sides share
No
I said the Democrats have allowed their party to be completely taken over by their fringe.
No one seriously denies that.
Like I said, any Democrat of the 90s - today would be considered far right.
I haven't changed a bit.
I have witnessed one party going off the rails into insanity - and the other party shrug it's shoulders and do nothing.
Democrats today - the party of the insane.
Republicans - the party of do nothing.

That's literally what the far left is. The left wing are supporters of Enlightenment ideals. The left wing is so named because they sat in the left wing of the French parliament. They were opposed to the institutions of the Altar and Throne. The right wing supported the king and Catholic Church.

Centrist is a bad word to use because the left call themselves centrists, as far left as they are. They use the term in relation to where they stand in the world, not the US. Your question is difficult to answer because most centrists generally average out to be somewhere in the middle but have varying opinions on different issues and that can go both ways.

I am a right leaning independent. I could be referred to as a centrist but I lean right, just not far right so, I'm not really a centrist, just not far left or far right, but I still lean right. Some compromises need to be made but in the last few decades both parties stake out extreme positions from the get go in hopes that when compromises are made, they will get everything they were hoping for in the first place. Pretty much most all of my positions lean right on just about every issue but, again, when a side is in power, they tend to take the ball and run with it too far.

As far as fiscal responsibility goes, I think we need to be fiscally responsible as the national debt is past insane. But, you can't just get all gung ho about it because if you cut too much too quickly the economy tanks and when the economy tanks tax revenues go down. While I have also been against same sex marriage, I'm willing to just let it go and move on and fight more important battles. At the end of the day I don't give a crap if two people of the same sex get married. As far as abortion goes, again, I am basically against abortion but the far right has taken that ball and run too far, just as the left are trying to go to far on the same issue. Since we are a democracy and not a dictatorship, we can't just let one side take total control and turn the country into a dictatorship.

"Centrism", also called "rinoism", is the ideology that the nation should take a nice , slow , leisurely stroll into the Pit of Socialist Hell. An alternative to both freedom as well as Liberalism- which is in a real hurry to see the American Middle Class- aka the "Basket of Deplorable Bitter Clingers"- be destroyed.

Centrists politically-lazy, selfish, and irresponsible voters who don't want to be held accountable, and who actually perpetuate the status quo. The truth is, it's the ideologues who are able to get things done, and it’s the centrists who stand in the way of solving problems. A good example of that is how Democrat centrists Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema shot down Biden's "Build Back Better" bill.

Another characteristic of centrists that they don’t share with ideologues, is that they’re much more susceptible to influence by special interests, whose primary goal is often to keep change from happening. While the rigid ideologues and progressives in the Democrat party were pushing their "climate change" agenda, it was Manchin who served the interests of the fossil fuel industry.

Both parties are extremists in terms of such things as spending and border management, or should I say, border mismanagement.

So to make people feel like they are somewhat sane, they pretend all you have to do is be somewhere in the middle of the lunacy.

It gives people warm fuzzies.

No

Correct, nobody but the Dems deny that.

What you miss is that the Republicans have allowed their party to be completely taken over by their fringe. The only ones that deny that are the Repubs

Centrist is the wrong word, I am not really in the center on any single issue, I just do not agree with either side on most issues.

More personal freedom.

The right to marry the consenting adult you wish to marry. The right to run your business as you wish. The right to smoke a joint instead of drinking a 5th of Jack if that is what they want to do. Just to name a few.

On the flip side a smaller, less expensive Govt. We are 32T in debt as a nation due to out of control spending all while brining in record revenue each and every year. This is unsustainable.

Less Government intrusion in our lives. The Govt should not be deciding what is "truth" and what is not ,what books we can read, and more.
You as a Progressive Socialist vote in people who expand government. Progs take the lead in that. Republicans do it also. Just slower.

The vast majority of people are "centrist".
And no one but leftist say that Republicans are too far right.
To them, EVERYONE is too far right.
Now as for Democrats, they are the ones that allowed their party to be completely taken over by the fringe nuts.

And your right fringe ass refuses to accept YOUR own actions and refuse to discuss thing. Well, both the Dems and Reps are fringe right now and at war with each other. Unfortunately, it's us in the middle that are being harmed.

Today in the US every man is a king and his church is whatever he likes. If he is independent and wants to be left alone as well as he leaves people alone, he is a "right winger". He doesn't give a shit where some party hack sits in gaggle full of chattering political whores.

If they're someone who wants gov't thugs to steal from others and give money to them they're bed wetters, or "left wing".

I have more respect for actual thieves.

What's a centrist?

Please define what you mean by the term.

Both major criminal parties are insane and hyper-conservative, so there's that too.

and dumber. They open up paths for those sociopaths to obtain more power.

As evidence I offer the "Patriot Act".
