Where is it written that 2nd Amend is to keep Govt. in Check?

Why the bill of rights is important:
WordsFromTheFoundingFathers:

The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms."
- Samuel Adams

The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.
~Thomas Jefferson

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the outcome of the vote.
~Benjamin Franklin

"I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them."
George Mason
Co-author of the Second Amendment
during Virginia's Convention to Ratify the Constitution, 1788

"Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurrence's and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference they deserve a place of honor with all that's good."
George Washington
First President of the United States

"The supposed quietude of a good man allures the ruffian; while on the other hand arms, like laws, discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as property. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them."
Thomas Paine

"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them."
Richard Henry Lee
American Statesman, 1788

"The great object is that every man be armed." and "Everyone who is able may have a gun."
Patrick Henry
American Patriot

"Those who hammer their guns into plowshares will plow for those who do not."
Thomas Jefferson
Third President of the United States

"The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; "
Thomas Jefferson
letter to Justice John Cartwright, June 5, 1824. ME 16:45.

"The best we can help for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed."
Alexander Hamilton
The Federalist Papers at 184-8

"The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
- Thomas Jefferson

"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
- Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)

"Arms in the hands of citizens may be used at individual discretion in private self defense."
- John Adams

"Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined.... The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able might have a gun."
- Patrick Henry

A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government. ~George Washington

And this post is supposed too mean something?
I question the maturity of someone who uses a toy as an avatar./

Where the hell have you been? I had those toys for my children and the oldest one will 40 this year. Star Wars was a long time ago.

And? I had some of the 1960's and some of the 70's GI Joes but by the time I hit 12 they were to blown up to be of any value.

I liked my army men when I was young, but I never liked GI Joe and I was too old for it by then. It reminded me of a boy's Barbie doll.

I am not worried about my guns, even my assault rifle. The socialist in chief obamaturd will not get them, period.

You live in a country where you can buy a machine gun and worry Obama will take away your guns. They didn't take away anyone's gun with the assault weapons ban.

You right-wingers are morons, you aren't patriots, you're just a bunch of stupid fucking people.

Why do you think you can buy a machine gun?

Bit of a pot calling the kettle isn't it you anti-liberty dumbass.

I know you can buy one, you dumbass! You just have to pay a tax and transfer the registration at the appropriate place. Of course there is a background check. Some states prohibit owning one now.

Sure it did,.:eusa_whistle:

Wingnuts keep saying the Second Amendment is to keep the government in check.

Where is this written in the Constitution?

Do you not know that the intent of the 2nd Amendment has been offered numerous times in documented words by the various founders?

Were you playing with Barbie dolls too?

Why would you have a barbie?

You are the one who played with dolls. I was too old when GI Joe came out and I don't think I would have liked it, if it came out when I was young. A bunch of little plastic army men was good enough for me. I didn't have to blow them up, though I did on occasion. A rubber band was good enough for me.

I am sure that if you were to old for GI Joe you most assuredly was too old for for any star wars toys.

It's not. It's to the keep the state free. No Spanish, Canadian, French nor British assholes taking over the joint.

The notion that it's a state where everyone is free to run around armed, is nonsense. Tons of laws on the books, plus myraid SCOTUS opinions prove it thus. But the NRA sells the nonsense to their minions, who eat it up, despite the fact that short of something patently unconsitutional (total gun bans), the NRA has NEVER challenged a single gun regulation, since they know they'll lose. Plus, why do it. The minions will drink the koolaid either way.

I wasn't too old to buy them for my kids and spend hours on Christmas Eve putting them together. .

We are so impressed by your wit and the way you change what others say. Why would somebody believe what you say anymore, since you make a habit out of doing the same thing over and over?

For the dumbfuck liberals...

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government"

-- Thomas Jefferson, 1 Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

"The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good"

-- George Washington

I'm sure you had the entire Barbie doll collection. Not surprising really. But thanks for the admission.

I was making a point. You were saying it like a person could walk in to Walmart and get a machine gun. In fact you have to get all those things and a letter from the chief LEO in your local area and then you need to pay atleast $8,000 for the cheapest one you can get. So stop with the red herrings.

Right-wingers always say they are sure when they are lying, so they say it a lot.

I don't remember any of my brothers or sisters having GI Joe or Barbie dolls. I do remember other kids having them, but I was teenager by then. It is strange in a way, because my sisters had plenty of dolls and my mother collected dolls. They just didn't seem to like Barbie for some reason.

Now it's your buddy who liked GI Joe. I think he liked taking the cloths off of it.

The next time you have a point, take the dick out of your mouth and speak up. I'm sure your hands are busy too.

Don't you think they learned a lesson when Thompsons and BARs were allowed to be sold to the public in the gangster era. Giving the criminals an edge on fire power isn't a very smart way to protect the community. Of course, idiots like you believe it's some kind of constitutional right. The people don't believe that.
