I do not require a work ethic for anyone other than my own employees. And my employees have always been well rewarded for theirs.

You are free to not have a work ethic. However, if you eschew a work ethic you also eschew the rewards that come with it. Demanding that you do not need a work ethic, and the turning around and demanding an income, especially when that income is taken from those who do have a work ethic, is laughably hypocritical.

By the same token, no one is required to support you beyond the level of survival. You want more than that? A work ethic serves you well.

At-will employment is exactly the same as it was. There are no for-cause requirements.

Being qualified for unemployment compensation has nothing to do with at-will employment laws.

Being the greatest nation on earth, we have a ton of work to do on fixing our infrastructure. Our health care system is flailing, and wages are and have been way behind for years. We want young people to have families, which are expensive, and then save money. It isn't feasible for many. It's no dream for the working masses anymore. And then there are those that want to gut medicare, the one thing that helps older Americans. Social security and medicare are two of the greatest things we've ever done in america.

But you are absolutely right that we need to work on our infrastructure. We need a healthcare system that works for all. And we need to address the way the system has perpetually screwed the middle class.
 
The middle class has taken it on the chin since the early 80's. Reagan went all in for the corporate and wealthy. The ball hasn't stopped rolling since then.
