Will the World Like the US Better Under Obama?

At the moment the US has a huge PR problem. People outside its borders generally don't like it. Why? George Bush and a bullying "do as we tell you, not as we do" big stick being waved. I think Obama has the ability to make the US back into one of the most well liked nations again. It'll take a while, and a lot of hard work, but he can do it. His biggest problem will be whether he kowtows to certain lobby groups within the US political system.

That what I said, if you are a good diplomat, you can do what you perceive as your interests and get away with it. You will not need half an army to guard you while visiting an allied state.
If you are a good diplomat, you will even make others behave in a way that suits you. As opposed to having 2 major allies publicly decry you.

Beeing hated throughout the world is not benificial to America.
And it is not needed, at least in Europe, the "Anti American" sentiment is anti Bush not anti American in general.

That's nice in your dream world. The reality, however, is that our European allies have always felt threatened by our grand success of the free market system and our resolve to defeat evil when necessary. They are content to live with socialism and be eventually taken over by Islam, again.

To me, diplomatic skill means the ability to do what you want without beeing hated by others. Clinton was very diplomatic, and he, in my opinion, did ruthlessly pursue American interests. However, he did not need 30.000 Policemen to guard his visits to allied states.

Do you remember the time where the Le Monde claimed "We are all Americans!"?
The people who went for spontaneous pro American demonstrations at 9/11 were, to a large amount, the same that later protested against the Iraq War.
I cannot recall another example where so much foreign sympathy was lost in a so short time.
Of course, having foreign sympathy is not the most important thing to have, but it is a resource and Bush squandered a lot of it.

Actually it's politics that is the killer. Missionaries aren't an issue because they don't seek political power. Socialists running soup kitchens aren't a problem because they do not seek power.
