Only one problem with her climb, Augustine...when she gets to the top portion she's using the edge of the wall to finish. Those wall panels would be side by side with no gaps in the top sections. As someone who climbed rock for years I can tell you the only way past a flat top section like that would be an actual "dyno"...attempting to vault up and grab the top of the wall before gravity pulled you back down. It's an extremely hard thing to do even if you're an experienced climber. My other problem is traction. How many illegals are going to be wearing climbing shoes with soft sticky rubber for traction? If you DON'T have those on (which the girl in the video does!) then when you attempt your dyno then you're going to slip and fall. To be quite blunt...I don't think the average person could get up to the top third of the wall even if they HAD climbing shoes on...I'd be willing to wager that maybe one person in a thousand would be able to perform the dyno needed to scale the top part of the wall.

Soooo, I watched the video and the safety rope was TAUT, the entire way up. That means she was helped. There is even a section where you can see she was stuck and hanging on to the section (which is nowhere near an exact replica just as an FYI) and the rope is vibrating. So no, she didn't climb it.

Climbing without ropes is stupid. Rock isn't a dependable surface. Over time it becomes weakened by water and freezing. Something that would have supported a half ton truck a year ago might let loose with just your body weight today. Twenty five years ago I fell 80 feet climbing in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison because a big rock horn just broke off when I went to mantle up on it. If I hadn't been roped up I wouldn't be writing this.

Read the article. That wasn't a climbing rope. That was a belay. That's a safety rope in case she fell. They are going to have a race with real mountain climbers to see who gets over it the fastest. So far, 40 seconds is the best time.

If you watch...it looks like she was going to attempt a dyno from that under hang position she got into right below the top section but she never even tried. Instead she grabs the outside of the plate and climbs up using that. There was no dyno in that at all so I don't know what the person who posted the video is talking about!
