Laws against Rape and Murder are enforceable. You have complaining witnesses, and people willing to convict them.

You'd never get that with abortion laws, because you'd never get a jury willing to convict, prosecutors willing to face the wrath of voters by charging a woman for having one, or cops who will make an arrest.

You want to make the comparison to rape, but real comparison is to prostitution laws.

No one is thrilled that they are doing it, but you can't stop them, and it's not like you'd get an effective enforcement of the laws.

If we can't effectively outlaw prostitution, which a majority really thinks is a bad idea, how can we really get an effective ban on abortion, which most people think should be legal in at least SOME circumstances?

But the fact is, there's a massage parlor not a mile from my house. I used to live in a town that was notorious in IL for it's strip clubs. So the notion that the "outlawing" of prosittution has been effective is laughable.

A law that isn't enforced and people have contempt for isn't "effective".

Why not let a poor person sell his kidney? Why not let a family get compensation for their dead relative's organs? We'd get more organ donations that way and save lives.
