Almost $18.5 Trillion in debt.

Gimme my Obamaphone and make that guy over there pay for it.

Gimme my mortgage interest deduction, and make that guy over there pay for it.

Gimme my employer health benefit exemption, and make that guy over there pay for it.

Whose fault is it we have so much debt? That guy over there, of course!
should we insist on better capital management from our elected representatives?

In exchange for campaign contributions, our elected representatives legislatively tilt the playing field to the advantage of the highest bidders.

To unfuck all of this, we need to make several changes. Chief among them, we need to decentralize power as much as possible to make it more difficult to capture, and we need to ban all tax expenditures.

uh sorry, but Reagan started the phone program too.

and obama has grown it over 300%. one of obama's major campaign donors runs it, and it's full of waste and abuse

THIS is why nobody takes you seriously.

This is where i believe the Right and their Iron Age morality is doing us a disservice. Why should our federal Congress be made to feel guilty about their cushy, part-time job?

Paying for a bureaucracy is already part of our "overhead".

The Iraq and Afghanistan wars did not cost $6 trillion that's possibly the dumbest thing I have read in 5 years.

The report states: “The Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, taken together, will be the most expensive wars in US history—totaling somewhere between $4 trillion and $6 trillion. This includes long-term medical care and disability compensation for service members, veterans and families, military replenishment and social and economic costs. The largest portion of that bill is yet to be paid.”

US Wars in Afghanistan, Iraq to Cost $6 trillion

We spend $10 trillion on welfare every 10 years, actual budgeted spending. Using the dishonest liberal math I could say welfare to cost $1,500 trillion.

this is why you're so full of shit your eyes are brown ...

Ronald Reagan: Up 189 percent
George H.W. Bush: Up 55 percent
Bill Clinton: Up 37 percent
George W. Bush: Up 115 percent
Barack Obama: Up 16 percent

you poor little RW'r...

And now...time for some simple math.

Presidents A through W run up a debt of 10 billion quadloons.

President X adds to the debt by 75 percent, meaning it is now 17.5 billion quadloons. "Record debt!", howls the opposition.

President Y adds to the debt by 100 percent, meaning it is now 35 billion quadloons. "Record debt!", howls the opposition.

Reducing deficits to zero is politically impossible in a short period, but President Z does manage to decrease deficits substantially so that he only adds 50 percent to the debt, making it 52.5 billion quadloons. "OH MY FUCKING GOD, HE'S THE WORST BIG SPENDING PRESIDENT EVAH!!!!"

Every fiscal year of Obama's Administration, he has reduced the deficit. Bush hit a record deficit of $1.4 trillion in FY2009. Obama has gone down from there every single year. No President who ever lived could have gone from a $1.4 trillion deficit to a zero deficit in seven years.

No one.

regardless of political stripe, no President ever will either. But erasing the debt is fodder for campaign dolts. Simpletons buy it too.

don't blame us; some on the left have always been willing to "ditch our drug war" to pay for it.

To pay for what? 3 days a year of social welfare?
dear, ending our exorbitantly expensive warfare-State in favor of our specifically enumerated welfare-State could end the need for direct taxes on income for Individuals.

So Reagan added $1.8 trillion in debt over 8 years.

Shit, Obama can add that in a good month.

Obama entered office with an $11 trillion national debt.

Even $11T a little shaky as TARP was included (paid back) and GWB stimulus? Obama came in and set that amount as "etch in stone baseline" when it was aberration compared to previous 7 years.

it really is hard to be certain as fiscal years overlap and that allows more SPIN.

AND if OBAMA entered office ......... with huge spending in place, he saw books. He wanted job. Fix it.
