Does Paula Deen Really Have To Go On An Apology Tour?

Ahhhh so that's what's at the bottom of this pogrom!

It was very foolish of Deen to apologize. No matter how she apologized it wasn't going to help. Just ask Trent Lott how that works.

She should have said that her comments occurred more than 30 years ago, the comments were innocent at the time and no apologies today are necessary.

I don't like her. Not at all. BUT...she has no need to apologize for using a term used by blacks themselves. When ALL people stop using that word, THEN if someone uses it it can be cause for indignant huff n puffs.

Frankly, I am fed up with the crying and wringing of hands about it by whites AND blacks while blacks sing about it and call each other the same word. Double standards. Fed up with double standards.

Asians call themselves chinks, Italians call themselves wops, Irish calls themselves micks, you can't. It's that simple. Your not one, your not allowed in that circle and it pisses you off?
Way to excuse the double standard! :clap2:

Until EVERYBODY condemns it, it's never going to get better.

It pisses me off all the wringing of hands and wailing over a word that is used daily in songs written by blacks to blacks for blacks about blacks. I don't like double standards.

I have NEVER met an asian that called themselves chink...nor an italian that called themselves wops, irish that use the term mick. I don't call my friends or family Whitey or Cracker. Its CRUDE and RUDE. Why the hell would I use a term that is degrading to someone's race or culture?? Oh. Wait. To be an asshole I guess? Well, I try very hard not to be an asshole.

Cracker hasn't been used since the 60's ms. Current event. If you are not black, asian, Italian etc...why the fuck do you care what thy do in their own circles to themselves?
Current events?

Dumbass.

Mind your fucking business. Certain people hate when they are told they can't do things. You cannot call blacks ******* if you are white. Deal with it.
Then blacks can't call whites "cracker" or "whitey".

Unless, of course, you're a hypocritical son of a bitch.

Are you a hypocritical son of a bitch? NOTE: There are only two possible answers, yes or no.

The ****** exists.

Stop fooling yourselves. It's the guy/gal that is ready to slit your throat for the simple fact that you are white.

True story.

quoted for truth. People like yourself dog pile into these types of threads whenever they come up to toot your horns.

For something she done over 30 years ago? Would people feel better if she said as a white woman raised in the south she never even thought about the word ******?
And as the writings of Mark Twain and other early American authors clearly show, use of the word ****** was neither always, nor necessarily, nor intentionally derogatory or demeaning.

A rose is a rose and by any other name would smell as sweet. (Wm. Shakespeare)

"The American negro will not truly be free until the word ****** no longer troubles him. Because the striking of chains and the death of Jim Crow does not free the mind." (James Baldwin; speaking at Columbia University, December, 1964.)

I guess if she wants to work again sometime down the road she will do the tour.
Then she gets another TV gig where she has a black co-host.
Then all's forgiven.

Even better Paula is the co-host....

Nope, she's finished. She was targeted and made an example of. She shouldn't have apologized. This society is no longer a forgiving one, and the media love to exploit stories like this. She'll be referenced for many years to come in discussions about racism, while people like Michelle Obama (a real racist) will be an example of a unifying figure.

Yeh...she's done.

Once you are put in the world spot light and convicted as a racist...
That can not be undone.

When the racist New Black Panther Party goes on tour and apologizes for their racial, prejudiced slurs, then Paula Dean can start booking her tour.

Paula Deen used the "n" word 30 years ago? Gasp!!! The horror of it all. I wonder who among us would look like saints if every unkind, racist, or stupid thing we have ever said in the last 30 years was trotted out, out of context, for public consumption?

But the way I understand it, her current troubles stem not from that, but from words she used in a deposition she was giving? Really? They now go into our legal business unrelated to our everybody life or occupations to accuse us? But oh well. It is the 21st century of compassion, fair play, thoughtfulness, kindness, compassion, and justice isn't it.

So the media is now on a full scale search and destroy mission to dig up whatever dirt they can find on her and paint her as much a racist as they can possibly do. And nothing else will satisfy them other than total victory meaning they destroy her.

Here is the latest in the count down. The video starts out with the interview causing all the latest bruhaha, but her apology follows it with the usual commentary. You make the call. Is this an evil, hateful, racist witch who deserves to have a lifetime smeared and her career destroyed?

I have seen this with other celebrities, remember the Michael Richards meltdown? And the furor caused by Mark Furman's use a famous verboten word? It still amazes me how we as a culture empower a stupid word. And how people over-react. Perhaps it's bit of an exaggeration, but I think anyone that speaks English has said these foul words. Admit it. I forgive all these people, because it such a minor thing. Sticks and stones....

Wow, "like family" I don't think that people would treat their family like less than second class citizens and lynch them if they looked at a member of their 'white family' the wrong way. I don't think that they would make laws like the 'Black codes' and Jim Crow to discriminate against their own 'family'.

She does sound like my step-mother-in-law from Georgia, same attitude and everything,. We have had many spirited discussions and debates on race but we love each other very much and we ARE family. This is in a very old South area of Georgia where inter racial couples are hardly seen and we haven't had any problems there so far.

Who did Paula Deen lynch?

How come we don't hold Kanye West to the same standards as Paula Deen? Do we really want to end hate, or are we just playing mind games here?

You didn't respond to my question, so I presumed you didn't want to be friendly any more. Was I in error?

I'm going to bed. Horrible headache. Goodnight.

Gracie, of course we can disagree on certain things and be cool. You hit on a subject that hits home for me so of course I am adamant about my feelings.

We are cool Grace. Now take care of your headache. :)
