Does the rest of the world think we are crazy?

WHO CARES what the rest of the world thinks?

grow up, finally. it is not a high-school cafeteria anymore.

Every nation, including yours and mine, can sometimes learn from others. Getting away from the notion that if something is American is it automatically the best would be a useful step. And grown up.

To learn something does not mean to whine "what do they think about us, waaaa, waa, waa"

Who cares what they think? They still flood here from everywhere and ask for help as well.

Your Foreign Policy agenda needs work

Nope, it does not. You, leftards, should grow up from that freshman mentality - finally

Until someone flies a plane into a building then you'll be wondering what happened. Luckily everyone isn't playing checkers and some are thinking of the longer game

We sneeze, the rest of the world gets a cold

Political instability in the US affects the rest of the world. Our ability to assume a moral high ground in negotiations is also affected.

Do as we say, not as we do is not a good negotiating position

I can partjally agree. We should cut our spending, defund obamacare and move to sustainable model of economy, but not because somebody thinkssomething, but because we, ourselves, need to realize it. We can check next door - Canada reformed their economy a decade ago and they flourish.

But it is you, guys, on the left, who are stubbornly insisting on jumping into unsustainable abyss.

I thought once Chump In Chief was selected, the world was going to love us?

Well since Obama has taken office, he managed to go on an apology tour, apologizing for us "bad Americans" then he goes onto bowing to dictators. So our country looks foolish.

Since our country looks foolish, other countries have lost all respect for the U.S. and how could our country be beloved to other countries? You've heard the saying, "you can't love someone you don't respect."

Tissue much? Our policy got much more "don't give a fuck" after 9/11 and it was exactly Clinton's too much involvement with what they think which lead directly to 9/11

Why does there have to be a downside?

The US used to be the political and cultural leader of the free world. Where did we go wrong?

Why is the rest of the world laughing at us or looking on in shock?

The international left thinks what the American left does. I mean wow, what were the odds of that?

Speaking from the UK , most people think the US government is a shambles and instead of helping the economy often hinders it! For those of us here who have an interest in your constitution understand why your founders decided on this type of government, it had the best of intentions to stop one party acting like a dictatorship but I think the problems come when you have complete intransigence and this type of gridlock. In terms of this current shutdown, I think whats confusing many here is that once a Law is a law the only way to change that is to get into office and get rid of it. The majority here in Europe will lay the blame at the GOP not because we think that they might not have acceptable issues with the ACA but in the manner in how they're trying to stop it or have it removed.

More worrying is your debt ceiling because if a default happens the whole world goes down not just the USA, in a sense 5 years of getting out of a recession will go down the drain. This is getting a lot of airtime here in Europe because of the impact this could have here.

Most people here would probably not care too much if it was just a USA issue but we do and that's why until this gridlock ends theres going to be a lot of nervous people on this side of the Atlantic.

I wouldn't say foolish at all, Europeans have no problems at all with the American people, this is about the constant dramas played out in Congress. Whether you like Obama or not in Europe he restored much of the respect for the USA government, the Bush years were a complete disaster for the USA image here.

The issue here is the worry that the TP Republicans don't care how much chaos ensues and that Boehner is too weak to stand up to them. We've had so many problems in Europe and are just now digging ourselves out of the economic mess, the last thing we want is another recession brought on by people that just don't understand that what happens in the USA effects the whole world.

Oh yes, I forgot about that period where we cared so much they bombed the shit out of us.

My conservative English friends don't share your views about the W presidency versus Obama. I'm no W fan, BTW, I'm libertarian. However, they see Obama as taking the US down the socialism path that they hoped we'd learn not to do because of what it did to Britain and Europe. London would tend to be more strongly your view than outside London.

The European left like Obama mostly because he makes the United States weaker. Which is why he got a Peace Prize, but he gets zero from European governments in terms of actually getting any concrete support.

I've worked extensively in Europe for the last couple decades, everything has to be taken with a grain of salt though towards Americans from Europe. I totally agree with your statements on the general European views, I'm not arguing that. But Europeans like to pick on everyone, including each other. And as top nation, they like to pick on us the most. It makes for great dinner conversation with wine and Grappa. But Americans tend to overreact to what's said about us and not really process what the Germans say about the Dutch, the French say about the Italians, ...

The main topics that are generally brought up to me BTW regarding America in Europe they always ask me about are guns and the death penalty. The Republican versus Democrat thing is mentioned here and there, but I don't get pressed much about it.

You are welcome to apply those ideas to your own country. Best of luck.

Sweden has very many faults. But on this point I think that Sweden is much more open to ideas from other countries than is the US. Mind you the fact that it stopped being a great power 300 years ago helps.

except you somehow pretend not to see that you are digging yourself out of the problems exactly on the policies which conservative GOP or Tea Party is promoting. And you are blaming THEM and not our leftards.

Hypocrisy much?

I am being asked more about the big cars. Which is easily refutable - if one wants to be sarcastic - just to compare to their plastic little boxes, if on a more serious note - just compare the distances and availability of public transportation. Most people understand. The ones who do not get the appropriate treatment.
But I am from Europe myself, so it is much more easier :D
