Fast-food workers walk out of job

American business owners are more concerned with lining their pockets than with paying their employees a decent wage.

Of course they are.
The nature of capitalism is to make money, not do social work.

Its selfishness. Getting your employees to do the hard work, while you sit back and pocket the fruits of their labor.

Pheh...it is consumers who drive wages not the employers.
Same reason manufacturing has sent jobs overseas using slave wages. The American consumer is all about the lowest price they can find. In that environment, businesses positively MUST lower their cost as much as possible, and as any business person knows - labor is the quickest and most effective way to cut cost having the least effect to the product to boot.
Americans are painting themselves into a corner by the "WalMart mentality" - we are collectively too stupid to realize it.

So instead of supporting local business, employers would rather get their shit made for cheaper and because of that, local business goes out of work and people lose their jobs.

Is it sinking in?

So people with lots of money don't have to do any work??

There is also the risk people who invest money take, risks that salary makers dont have to.

Once a person earns a salary, its thiers. Investors risk thier money as long as it is in the buisiness.

typical socialist bullshit.

The basic tenet of the socialist class is that people who put thier money and time into a business should basically not take anything out of it. Profit it seems is evil.

Meanwhile they expect to be paid for thser work, and flail around like a seal being attacked by a shark (SHARK WEEK) if that position is even threatened.

Socialism: I want mine to be paid by yours. And here is this big government gun to make sure it happens.

I am willing to bet you have never worked in fast food. Over 80% of people leave within the first three months because they can't hack the pressure.

By all means, come and work in my store, you can run around like a headless chook while I boss you around, you can serve the customers who abuse you and threaten you and spit at you because their fries are 'cold', and you can learn to juggle ten different things at once.

You wouldn't last a week, bitch.

you aussies sound like a mean bunch

No, we just get paid what we deserve - pay rise every year, as well.

I earn close to $18 an hour at my workplace. Many would say I don't deserve that much, but then, they don't work where I work.

You could make $50 bucks an hour in tips in a American resteraunt easy if your as good as you say you are, $18 bucks an hour? chump change for a good waiteress.

Yeah....

How dare you benefit from risking your investment.. .How dare you be in charge after creating operational processes and procedures... How dare you be the one accountable for performance, observing, enforcing rules, changing things, etc...

You progressives are ridiculous

WEre I working for a union, I'd be seeking to find the person or persons who talked their fellow workers into walking out.

Clearly those people have potential as union organizers.

In decent restaurants yes, $18 average earnings for a waitress would not be very good in urban areas. My daughter has been a waitress while in college for 4 years. She only works Fri/Sat/Sun and usually brings home $450-$500 a week for 25 hours or less. Before taxes that is $25 - $30 an hour. If she worked downtown she would likely make 25% more at least.
Buut in a smaller city, $18 per hour for a waitress is pretty decent.

a trained monkey could do these jobs but these people think they are special?..

someone is yanking their chains because they sure look foolish

A server is about all you will ever amount to.

I worked at Hardees and McD all throuhout high sc hool and if thats all the pressure you can handle you are in the right place, flipping burgers.

Yes lets juggle pickles or no pickles. No onions or onions. Ice or no ice. Yup tough job you have there.

hahahahaha

are you actually threatened and spit on?

Yes, I was actually spit at once when a woman didn't like her fries. She spat them out, and a gob of spit landed inches away from me, on the bench.

We have had other incidents, the scariest being my former boss punched in the face by an irate drive thru customer who stormed into the store, demanding free food. When my boss refused, she was punched in the face, and the girl went outside, picked up a chair and threw it through the glass door. Those doors have glass at least two inches thick - and it smashed. Lucky no customers were standing nearby, they would have been slashed to pieces.

We've had drug addicts yell at staff and refuse to leave, accuse us of stealing from them. We've had to call the police of several of them. We've had drunks staggering in right before closing time and then refusing to leave because they need some grease to cure their self inflicted hangovers.

We've had customers abuse the shit out of new employees who then end up in tears and refuse to go and serve another customer because they are terrified of being abused again.

And people here have the gall to insist that we don't deserve every single damned penny of the wages we get here? People think that all fast food employees deserve is seven bucks an hour?

Those people can go and get fucked.

I wouldn't work in a hell hole like that, no matter what you'd pay me. I would not put myself in danger or degrade myself.
I think I'll visiting down under off my list of places to see. Sounds like hell!
And every time you go back to work there, you are asking for and agreeing to get fucked, so it's on you.

My wife's friend would bring $200 in tips alone and that was 20 years ago. If you are good, you make good money on tips, not wages.

What a bunch of idiots. Skilled labor workers that work for public works don't get a starting salary that large.

Why do fast food workers expect so much money?

If they could make the food they sell actually LOOK like the pictures and TASTE like the ads say it will, they might have a point. But assembly like food is just that, assembly line food.

I will have to say that I get hacked when they want me to donate my 'change' to Ronald McDonald House. Mrs. Ray Kroc gets all the credit for it, she needs to foot the bill. I think it is abominable to ask the class of people who frequent those places to leave their 'change' for some dubious 'charity.'

My daughter did well as a waitress in college as well. My son was a cook in a sports bar while in college and he often got tips from customers who appreciated his cooking.

my 1st wife used to piss me off, She would bring home more money than I sometimes by only working 25 hours a week to my 60..... but yea this was the Chicago area

What's this? Everything isn't so much better in your country. Wow. And you are a fast food worker. That sure is 180 out from what you have been posting. Why, I bet you even have burglaries too! (And everyone knows when you piss off the waiter they spit in your food.)
