It means the thread was deleted or moved to an area of the forum you don't have access to. They do that if they need to clean up a thread. It prevents new replies from popping up while they're cleaning it up, some of which might be replies to deleted posts.

I've actually seen some of the worst moderator work on this forum with regards to that. I've seen dozens of replies in a thread allowed to stay that quoted a deleted post. It makes for a very confusing thread. But so be it.

It happened to me tonight.

Someone replied to one of my posts and I clicked on it within seconds and it said that the post had been removed.
